I HAVE A LYMPHOMA/37

THE VERDICT

Strictly speaking this hub should be titled, "I HAVE NO LYMPHOMA/1. from which, without delay, you will appreciate the good news conveyed to me by an equally happy Consultant at 4.00pm yesterday. As can be imagined the relief for myself and my wife was enormous as a great weight lifted from our shoulders.

The best way to give details is, If eel to quote from the Confidential Patient Report sent to the team from last week"s CT Scan, so here goes briefly and without medical jargon:

"Post 3 courses of chemotherapy. ? Response.

Comparison is made with the previous  PET/CT. The abdominal nodal disease noted previously has resolved.

There has been an excellent metabolic response to therapy."

Those are the salient points now engraved in my memory, for, in all truth, I could not have asked for more than that. So thanks to all at Southend Hospital, my family, especially my dear wife who has taken the brunt of the hard times on her slim shoulders, friends for their support and encouragement and finally to my old mate POSITIVE MENTAL ATTITUDE which has sustained me inside my head to the optimism with realism that I believe so necessary in such situations as I faced on this occasion.

FUTURE TREATMENTS.

Out of the wood we may be but treatment is ongoing for a while. 2 Further CHOP treatments are to be undertaken ,basically as a sweeping up exercise and then another CT Scan and appointment with the Consultant. This to determine whether to send me for second opinion in London and to then consider a high dose Chemo, designed to ensure no return in the future. This has the drawback that because of high dosage, I would be hospitalized for 3/4 weeks to assist the lowered immune system. We have all agreed it is a bridge not to be crossed now but after CHOP 6 and Scan have taken place.

So last night Iraised my glass of Ginger Beer to all concerned{ no alcohol for me since June 17 and none till CHOP is concluded}. Today, with medical and even wife"s approval, I commenced my remedial exercise regime. 12 minutes treadmill walk at 3 kms per hour and 10 minutes abdominal strengthening. Vey low levels but necessary after my long enforced lay off.Even so the feeling of invigoration at the end of my shower was well worth the wait.

I shall catalogue the remedial exercise path as it develops, for I consider it every bit as important as treatment and PMA for total recovery and to put me back in good shape ready to take on the pool in Turkey again in 2011. HAPPY DAYS for sure have begun again.

SO " I HAD A LYMPHOMA/1" STARTS TOMORROW WITH WHAT  I HOPE WILL BE INTERESTING AND INFORMATIVE READING TO COVER THE REMAINDER OF RECOVERY.
