Eating Bananas

Japanese diet plans for weight loss. Japan has been hit by the Banana Diet it's pretty simple and great for me I love bananas and usually eat one every morning.

Here's how it goes.

One or Two Bananas in the morning

One glass of room temperature water

optional snack at 3 p.m.

Eat whatever you want for lunch and dinner. ( I would suggest eating healthy foods and not as much as you want.)

No desserts at all

Alcohol consumption is discouraged

No food after 8:00 pm.

Go to bed by 12:00 pm

There's been a run on bananas in Japan they can't keep them in the store.

The diet was designed by Sumiko Watanabe for her husband who she

claims lost 37 lbs. Sumiko Watanabe is a pharmacist.

No Desserts

Why Bananas are good for you.

Bananas: High in fiber a banana gives an instant, boost of energy. It's said it provides enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout.

High in iron

High in potassium yet low in salt. I know what it's like to get low on potassium. I ended up in the hospital because of this.

They're good for high blood pressure

They're good for heartburn if you have trouble with digestion (some people do) one banana sprinkle a little pepper on it.

Does this diet work

I have no idea if this diet works. It sure looks like you get plenty to eat, maybe more than you need. I just thought I would put it on and let everyone see what it's all about. Like I said I love bananas I can do this I know. Leaving out the sugar would be my problem.

I have tried many diets. I'm in Weight Watchers now. I starve on Weight Watchers it's just not enough food. I know it has worked for many people. I plan on staying with it because it helps me by going to the meetings and the weigh in. Weight Watchers has now changed to eating fruit, without using points. When they first came out with all the fruit you want to eat and no points, our leader said she ate bananas all day and, of course, she gained weight. I can’t remember how many she said she ate, but it was a big amount.

Remember if you eat too many bananas you are going to gain weight. They also say eat whatever you want for lunch and dinner. I wouldn't eat a dozen hamburgers or French fries, eat good healthy food such as lean meat, vegetables, nuts, fish, beans, other fruits and oatmeal. Just examples of some of the foods you should eat.

I'm not a doctor so don't take my word. Please check with your own doctor before starting a diet.

I'm only listing the diet for you I'm not an expert on this diet. You may have to adjust this diet for yourself and to make sure your not taking into many calories. We all know in the long run calories count and if you go overboard with calories you will gain.

Adding exercise is always a good idea if you can. The diet is not unhealthy bananas aren't going to hurt you. Bananas are one of the cheapest things you can buy.

This diet is a fad diet but if it works for you and gets the weight off and gives you a start why not try it. It's safe and healthy. It will help you eat breakfast something I find myself not doing when I should but if I do I go for a banana.

Many diets are fad diets remember the cabbage diet. I couldn't take that one. I even tried the Subway diet, two days and I couldn't stand to look at another sandwich.

Check your BMI

You can go to the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute and find out what your BMI is with their calculator. You can also download an app for your iPhone.

If you check out my hub to the right you will see my story on the heart attacks I had when I was 38. This is my main reason for trying to keep my weight down. Health is always a good reason I think. Dieting is not always easy to do but something I guess most of us have to do at times.

What WebMD has to say about this diet.

The diet I have on here is a little different than WebMD but pretty close to the same.

I saw this diet on YouTube CBS and they are saying as many bananas as you want this is not ture about this diet. Only two bananas in the morning.

Lots of people are thinking about New Year's resolutions right about now and many will chose to put "diet" on their list. Personally, I don't bother with resolutions, but for those people wanting to go on a diet to start the New Year, this sounds like a good one. I love bananas too.

Voting this up, useful, interesting, and will share.

Hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas and are looking forward to a great 2014!

Indian Chef , My doctor encourages them because they're high in potassium. There's 105 calories in a medium size banana with anything you can't go overboard. Thanks for stopping by.

Moonlake diet looks good but out here they say one banana has 175 to 225 calories so usually the doctors discouraged them. shairing here and voting it up.

georgialgal1984, I agree only greenish bananas for me. I also can't stand very ripe bananas. Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment.

I've never heard of this before. I have heard of raw foodists who eat as many bananas as they want and still loose, or maintain their weight. They are also only eating super healthy low calorie foods throughout the day.

I personally only like my bananas with some green on them and still firm. Ripe, soft bananas, are repulsive to my taste buds for some odd reason.

Peggy W, I know it all has to do with how many calories you take in. Take in to many calories your going to gain weight that is for sure. Thanks so much for stopping by and for the vote.

Hi moonlake,

Bananas are a good food source but I read the WebDoctor link that you inserted at the bottom of your hub and it debunks the diet. There is no magic diet that takes and keeps weight off. Wish there were!!! Most fad diets will take off weight for a time and generally the person packs it back on and often even more. Calories taken in must be utilized and expended in the same ratio to maintain one's weight. Exercising a little more and taking in a little less each day will take weight off. Not sexy, I know. Just the plain truth. Voted up and interesting.

rajan jolly, So true no dessert will help weight go down. I to eat bananas everyday. I did try it but I had trouble with the room temp water and no desserts. Water at room temperature makes me feel sick I have no idea why. Thanks so much for stopping by.

I love bananas but I eat it anytime I wish. I don't need to lose weight so I guess this is okay. Did you try this diet and benefit? Just wondering.

Of course, without any dessert the calorie intake will go down appreciably.

Voted up and interesting.

LauraGT, That is true. I know if I could cut out all desserts, stop drinking diet coke. I could lose. We eat good as far as meals go and I don't eat bread unless we're having a sandwich. Like you I have a banana just about everyday. Thanks, so much for stopping by and reading my hub. I appreciate it.

I love bananas and have one every day with my cereal. It makes sense that they would help with weight loss because they are so filling. Look forward to hearing from someone about whether this diet works. I suppose having a few bananas every day, eating no desserts, and not eating after 8pm would help most people lose weight (as long as their lunch/dinner aren't too horrendous!)

Dolores Monet, I also like bananas. I like eating my yogurt and slice up a banana to go on top of it. Thanks so much for stopping by.

I don't know about the whole diet, not being a dieter, but there is nothing like a good banana in the morning. Bananas are so easy to eat and full of nutrition they are a great way to start the day!

moonlake profile image

moonlake 4 years ago from America Author

Thanks molometer, for stopping by. Even a banana diet is not easy. I still eat that banana every morning. It's the food I add later in the day that doesn't help.

samdackson, I'm really not sure how you can gain weight. My Mom use to be so thin and they told her to eat anything she wanted and to make ice cream shakes everyday. Now days they wouldn't say that.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.

I am a life time member of weight watchers and I know what you mean by getting hungry on it. I eat fruit when I'm feeling starved. Not sure this bananna diet is healthy but can't wait to hear how it goes.

Hi Moonlake,

I will try this diet and let you know the results. I love bananas, they are one of my favorite kinds of fruit. I am a fan :)

moonlake profile image

Calories are always what count in making you fat. 110 Calories in an Apple and A small sized (peeled) banana contains about 80 calories so I would say their no different then other fruits and they are good for you just like any other fruit. I know no other reason why bananas would make you fat.

Thanks for comments.

I know just what you mean I also love bananas but I have ended up in the hospital with low potassium and believe me it was terrible and it can cause death. My water pills that I take for my heart caused my low potassium so now I have to take potassium pills.

I love bananas. Which is a good thing because I have low potassium levels and coronary artery disease. My heart doctor tells me you need potassium for your heart. Great article. Thank you.

Used to feel the same way about water, then started traveling internationally and learned "it's all about what you are used to." Ice cold water and ice is not the norm, even in Europe. There are scientific reasons why ice water also isn't necessarily good for us too.

moonlake profile image

moonlake 8 years ago from America Author

LouiseKnittel thanks for stopping by I also think it sounds like plenty of food so that's what makes me wonder if it will work. I do know with myself if I have any sugar at all I start right away putting it on.

Jerilee Wei, the water is going to be my hardest part I like water but I want it ice cold. Room temp and warm water make me feel kinda sick.

Jerilee Wei profile image

Jerilee Wei 8 years ago from United States

Good hub! Don't see where it could hurt anyone. Room temperature water is the norm in many places outside of the U.S. anyway.

This sounds interesting. I like knowing the latest 'everything.'

I pick up a banana almost everyday now to eat now that watermelon season is gone. And I start my morning with a cup of warm water to detox.

Hmm. I can do this.

Thanks again!
