Getting Down the Salt Water Flush with the Master Cleanse

OK, as I wrote last night I started the Lemon Master Cleanse this AM, and it is official the absolute worst part of this cleanse is the salt water flush. This flush is known by many names:  an internal cleanse, natural colon cleansing, salt water cleanse, intestinal cleansing, or colon cleanse just to name a few.

The salt water flush recipe is 32oz of water with 2 teaspoons of uniodized sea salt. The whole process of the Master Cleanse (also known as the Lemon Master Cleanse, detox, full body detox, or the Maple Syrup Cleanse) includes you not eating any solid food for the duration, and only drinking the mix for the Master Cleanse and a smooth move tea at night.  The final step and one of the most important is the salt water flush in the morning.  This process is 100% natural, and how it works is that the salt weighs down the water to push everything through your system to give you a total cleanse...

So what is the problem? Getting it down! To get the salt water past your tongue to your intestines, is  absolutely horrible, and by far the worst part of the cleanse. The Lemonade mixture is surprisingly good and filling. Who would have thought that Maple Syrup, Cayenne Pepper, and Lemons would go well together?

In all seriousness, it is now 12:27pm and the last time I had anything to eat was for dinner last night and I am not the least bit hungry. I am drinking the lemonade and it is going surprisingly well. I know I am just starting but so far so good! If I find any tips on the salt water flush I will post them immediately, right now all I can say is if you have the determination to do the Master Cleanse be it for 10 or 40 days then you have the will power to get down 32 oz of salt water!

You may read in places that there is no reason to detox your body, but if you look at the ingredients of what we eat and have eaten for many years, you will definitely see why I felt this was a good thing!  Most of what we "eat" now has little to no nutritional value and the need to clean it out of our system gets greater as time goes on.  The salt water flush as part of the colon cleanse is imperative to receive the best results from the Master Cleanse and has even been used in our house when we eat something that disagrees with us or gives us a stomach ache.  It just pushes everything through the system!

The comments are for any and all suggestions!  I hope to have a suggestion quickly as making it through without a tip will be ROUGH!

Update, I am writing another blog reguarding the Flush in more detail, but wanted to put on here the tip to getting it down is: Use a straw. I know this sounds weird, but the tastebuds in the back of your tounge are bitter so the salt isn't as bad back there. It is still bad don't get me wrong, but at least it is not traveling over your whole tounge to get there!

Jennifer 8 years ago

This sounds even more funny but hey it worked wonders for me and my friends---Just close your eyes and imagine really super salty chiken noodle soup broth.MMMMM mmm good---O.K. not that good but it works EVERY single time

I commend your will power because I love the lemonade cleanse drink, but could never handle the salt water.

Reminds me, I must do that again.

Try the straw it REALLY helps, and if you get it down 2 days in a row you are golden! Those first 2 days are TOUGH though! Another advantage if you can do this is if you get a sore throat you will be able to gurgle salt water after this with NO problem :)

PS I leave these as comments because I don't want to re read what I wrote the entire cleanse hubs were written while I was doing it so it also shows mental state and alterations there :)

I actually went and bought some maple syrup today from a maple syrup farm It is delicious. Time for another cleanse over the winter.

Good luck! And please feel free to drop in a comment each day! I would love to see how someone else compares to how I felt each day! I know it is different for every person!

PS That goes for anyone, if you are doing the cleanse and want to leave comments per day of where yours was the same or different please feel free, I welcome all comments!

I think this is great

I don't know if this is acceptable but I made 16 oz low sodium chicken broth and 16 oz (1 tsp sea salt) SWF and mixed the two. So it really does taste like chicken broth and I can get it down easily. And it seemed to work the same. But I'm sure it would get a thumbs down from the pioneers. :o) Namaste ~

Guest-  Thank you for the comment and it brings up a very good point, of if you are using the flush with the full Lemon Master Cleanse you cannot use anything other than the ingredients listed.  If you do it totally undoes the fasting portion, but if you are just looking to do the salt water flush to clear something out of your system it would definately help.

The issue with using the broth during the cleanse itself is that you are adding the nutrients that the parasites need to live which is counter productive for the fasting which is to kill those parasites :)  If you can't handle the flush during the cleanse you are better off to just do the cleanse without it but if you add the broth there is no reason to continue the cleanse.

I have used the salt water flush when I have eaten something that did not agree with me though and during these times using the chicken broth would be fine!

Guest 7 years ago

"no reason to continue the cleanse"

Jeez thanks for the encouragement! I believe you asked a question.

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Guest- I am sorry to have burst a bubble... I tried the same thing and the nutritionist told me the same thing I wrote here.

It stinks I agree, but the broth contains nutrients that the parasites can live off. If you use the broth through the cleanse it is equal to eating which nullifies the fasting using the lemon and cheyne only part of the diet.

If you can stick to the cleanse though (no food throughout, including chicken broth) I promise the flush gets easier after the first couple of days. Unfortunately for the cleanse there is just no way to cheat that it has to be water and un-iodized salt only :(

You can pretend you put broth in and when you close your eyes it is pretty close I have heard that works! Personally the straw did it for me though!

Guest-  I see that you keep posting and I apprechiate your information that you are trying to provide, but please re-comment without the curse words.  I allow all posts as I feel any information is helpful, but I will not be attacked nor allow anyone else who responds to be attacked on my posts ever.

Clearly you disagree with me on the disadvantages of using chicken broth and by all means continue as you wish.  The comment was posted, I contacted my nutritionist as well as my doctor and they have confirmed what I originally responded.  The number of calories does not matter, this post is part of a series and that series is on the Lemon Master Cleanse.  The Lemon Master Cleanse is a diet where you consume NOTHING other than fresh sqeezed lemon, cheyenne pepper, distilled water, and the salt water flush if you chose to the flush with it.

I am sorry if you disagree and that is your right, as I said I will allow posts as long as you remove the poor language choices.  I didn't ask about anything in my posts, and the Lemon Master Cleanse's purpose is to remove toxins and parasites from the body.  That is what it is.  The flush is a part of that.  I am sorry if it upsets you that I disagree with your short cut but the fact is simple, it is a short cut and goes against what the Lemon Cleanse is for.

I apprechiate your bringing it to my attention that people are considering using flavoring as an alternative to just the salt water as it is important that they realize they will NOT receive the full results of the cleanse by using any flavoring.  Again, flavoring gives the parasites something to sustain on, it makes zero difference how much, they don't need much which is why they are called parasites.

The end result will be the same we will disagree on this point but I still wish you the best of luck!

PS If you read the second comment in the thread Jennifer commented that closing your eyes and imagining worked for her every time.

Appologies to all I also forgot the Smooth Move in my list of things you can injest during the Lemon Master Cleanse

Ingrid 7 years ago

Today is my first day on the detox. I am sitting in front of my computer trying to down the 16oz of sea salt flush. Jesus Christ for the life of me I can't seem to drink it quick enough. LOL! My goal is 10 days!

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Ingrid- Congrats on making it through a day! If you can't get it down at first it is OK, you get better results but I did find that by the 2nd and 3rd day it started to get easier. My husband still swears by chugging it before you realize what you are drinking :) The smooth move will help as well!

Another little tip is to use the lemonaide mix as a chaser :) Keep us posted on how you do!

Nikki 7 years ago

I also heard that the flush takes out beneficial bacteria as well as the harmful bacteria. I heard that one should take Latero-Flora, or Primal Defense after the flush...anyone else heard about this?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Nikki- If you are doing the full cleanse your body is literally resetting, allowing the beneficial bacteria to have the environment they were designed to have. If you want to take any of the supliments I would highly recommend waiting until you are done with the full cleanse. At this time those would be the most beneficial as they would have an optimal environment to thrive in! Thank you for brining it up and you are right in that you want to re-acclimate your body and allow it to work the way we were intended, which does include good bacteria :)

im starting the diet today.i cant seem to find the right syrup. I have grade A maple syrup. Will that be ok to start with until i find the right syrup. Please let me know.

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Renee', thank you for writing and I am afraid you will not like my answer, but you really want to wait until you get the Grade B, the Grade A has so much sugar you will not get the results you are looking for and I would hate to see you go through even a day without accomplishing anything, BUT if you are set on starting it maybe better to start than put it off once you start puttin git off I found it is much harder to get going again.

We had to go to the health food store to find the Grade B the first time, but midway through we found it at Publix, and then our second time we actually found some at WalMart believe it or not! The easiest brand to find here in FL is Spring Tree (with the blue "ribbon").

When you do find it stock up! You will definitely use it, I found I used about 8.5 oz or a small bottle per day. A little more actually but if I got them as one a day and then added 3 for days when I wanted a little more I was safe. Most stores won't have enough for you to make it all the way through, but when you do find it tell them when you leave that they are out of stock and you should be able to get more there when you run out.

Hope this helps and please keep us posted on your progress! I love to hear the different views I know even while my husband and I did it at the same time it was amazing how different it was to each of us!

Tami K 7 years ago

I am on day three of the cleanse. I also had huge problems getting, then keeping the salt water down. I was using sea salt, but it was difficult even warmed up and with a straw. I went back to the health food store (Puget Consumers Co-op in Seattle) and found a jar of sea salt called Hand Harvested French Celtic, and the brand name is Eden. It claims on the label to be mellow and smooth, and believe me it is. It's an amazing difference, and worth every penny. 14 ounces for around $ 5.00.

If you are unable to locate it for sale near you, the company could probably tell you where to find it. The website listed on the jar is www.edenfoods.com. Hope this helps someone!

or switch between the doubled up pint and the pint of water between sips?

No problem, as a clarification, just make sure that you are not dilluting the flush by drinking too much inbetween your chugs, in other words try to drink as much of the flush before you use the chaser. :)

Jennifer 7 years ago

Hi There. Congratulations on doing the cleanse. I do it every year and I Love it. I am totally with you on the salt water flush, especially before you start eliminating, just a gross gross experience. I don't have much advice other than to try to remind yourslef that it will be over soon. I do have a question though. I have read some people say you need 2 teaspoons of sea salt, and others say 2 TABLESPOONS. any input on this?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Our chiropractor is the one who turned us onto the Cleanse and he was very adamant with us that it was 2 TEASPOONS, that is all that is required in order to get the "weight" of the water up to perform the function of the flush.

The confusion often comes, I believe, in the fact that when people are reading about the salt water flush the Lemon Master Cleanse comes into play as you know, and for that it is 2 TABLESPOONS of the Grade B Maple Syrup. That is just a guess though, and I know I made the same confusion the first time but I promise the 2 teaspoons with the salt water flush works just fine :)

Sam 7 years ago

For the life of me I can't get the salt water down. I drank a little more of a third and spit out the last swig. Can I do the cleanse without the flush?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Sam- Don't get discouraged! Another tip I found was to make more of the flush than I needed then when I was a third of the way though I was really done :) But if you are getting that much down you are on the way! If you really can't do it then the simple answer is that you can do the cleanse without the flush, it just is not as effective. If you are getting at least that much down though I would really try to keep it up! Keep us posted!

Again, yes you can do the cleanse without the flush it is still better than not doing the cleanse at all, the flush is just the crowing blow to clear out those intestines :)

Susan 7 years ago

I have completed 3 days on the Master Cleanse and feel great. One problem, I take the saltwater flush at night after I have completed all my day's allotment of the lemonade. The first day, it was effective in about an hour. The second day, longer. It has been 2 hours now and it is ineffective. Do I need to take it in the morning?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Susan- Through trial and error I found that doing the flush first thing in the morning worked best for me, for a couple of reasons. That had me moving around after I took the flush portion and it seemed to help it move faster. (I also had one day where it did not "flush through" as usual, but it did make up for it later!) The Smooth Move had worked through the night to losen things which also helped. AND I was able to use my first cleanse drink of the day as a chaser (yes I am a wimp!).

I did the smooth move at night so it had time to do what it was going to do without the interruption of the cleanse I was drinking through the day. I am a stay at home Mom though, so it was not like I was having to get in my car to get to work on the days it took a little while to "take effect."

If it is just one day then I would not worry about changing up the schedule unless this one is not working for you. Our bodies react differently and usually about day 4-5 there is a day where it did not seem as effective from my experience, but as a bad pun, "This too shall pass." (Sorry couldn't resist!)

Keep us posted on your progress you are doing great!

Guest2 7 years ago

I have a question. I started off with the salt water cleanse, and I have not been eliminating. is this normal?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Guest2- I have spoken with a couple of my Dr. friends and found out that while it is not "normal" it is NOT "abnormal" to have the results you are describing. If you are doing this with the Cleanse (sometimes people do just do the flush without doing the full cleanse so I am not sure which way you are doing it), but either way they have said they have heard of people having to do the flush 3-4 times before they actually eliminate.

This is just another indicator for you of how badly you needed to do this from what I have heard and read. The body cannot absorb salt water of that density so you are not absorbing all that salt it is just blocked.

Another point I would be remiss if I did not say is to make sure that you are chugging the salt water solution and make sure that the portions of water to salt are correct. (I am sure they are, and that you are not drinking it through the day, but I would be remiss if I did not mention it.) The flush as you already know works by the density of the solution "flushing" itself through the track so as hard as it is, the whole thing must be drunk at one time as quickly as possible.

Again though if you are doing this it is not unheard of to not have the elimination at first and it is even more of an indicator as to why you are doing it in the first place.

I hope this helps and keep us posted!

cleansingt- Awesome on the 3 days! The flush is by far the worst but I can honestly say after the first day it gets better each day. Never what I would consider "enjoyable" but it is definitely easier each time! Now on to your question, I asked the same thing and this is the response that I received:

The flush is what pushes everything through as we know. The Smooth Move helps to loosen what is stuck on the walls for the flush to pick up. Personally I did the flush in the morning and the Smooth Move at night so it had time to sit in my system while I slept. Granted my work schedule allowed this, if yours doesn't I would recommend the flush as soon as you get in from work or for the night, giving it some time and then the Smooth Move AFTER the flush has, done it's thing for lack of a better term :)

I did notice that the days I didn't do the Smooth Move the results from the flush weren't as good, but the flush is by far more imporant than the Smooth Move, so if you are only going to do one, then just do the flush :) Hope this helps!

Daynine 7 years ago

So glad I found this blog... although I've discoved a few things I've been doing wrong.

I was surfing to find the SWF recipe since its day9 and I haven't done it yet - first mistake. I have been doing smooth move nightly and senna leaf capsules (active ingredient in smooth move - which I heard were allowed- comment?). This morning was my first SWF and I must be weird or food deprived, cuz it aint that bad! or at least the first 16oz weren't that bad, then its just a matter of quantity.

Second mistake... I've had a cup of chicken broth a couple of times - day 3 and day 6. I figured the same as a previous poster - only 5 calories, MC allows salt, its helping me stay on, etc... Thanks for the explanation. It really helps when you understand the big picture. Too late now, but I will know for next time.

Thanks again!

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Daynine- Congrats on what you have accomplished! You should be very proud of yourself! I am glad that what you read has helped, we were very lucky in the person who told us about it is a chiropractor and also a great friend so I get a lot of info from him! In response to your questions and a few things I noticed:

I don't think there is any harm in the capsules though they prob aren't needed if you are doing the Smooth Move tea :) I am cost effective too, and if you feel you want more than what you are getting you can always add an extra bag or two to your tea ;)

If today was your first flush and you are on day 9 you are right there really isn't much "food" left, what is coming out is what the Smooth Move is releasing as you sleep. The 32 oz is just more weight pushing more through.

As you were saying with the second mistake, it is not that the cleanse allows salt, it is that the weight of the salt pushes the water through the intestines and gathers the junk on it's way (this is why you want to be near a bathroom when you do it!)

Again I want to say CONGRATS! It is not an easy thing to do, and you have done an awesome job to be on day 9!

Woo Hoo! Last SWF, last day! I will be so happy to have my well earned and guilt free juice and broth tomorrow! I look forward to maintaining a healthy eating and fitness lifestyle!

See you in 6 months or so when its time to clean and reset my digestive system!

rose 7 years ago

I'm going to do a saltwater flush tonight, and start the maple syrup diet tomorrow for 14 days, how much weight is the average for 14 days of it? fingers crossed for me!

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Rose- Congrats on starting the cleanse! There is really not an avg, but the lowest amount I have heard of anyone losing after 10+ days on the cleanse is 5-7 lbs. (This is what I lost, but I was only 132 when I started, and my optimal weight is 120.) My husband lost closer to 15 lbs. There are a couple of factors to keep in mind with these numbers though to make sure you don't focus solely on them.

1. You are guranteed to lose weight if you follow the cleanse for the simple fact it is removing sluge that has been caught in your intestines for years. Depending on how much you have is what you will lose. You should still be getting enough calories through the day through the drink, but make sure that you are following that correctly as well. There are quite a few calories in the drink so just because you are not putting solid food in your mouth does not mean your calorie intake can go through the roof.

2. The cleanse is exactly what it says. It is not a diet per say but a full system reset. It will shrink the size of your stomach, as well as detoxifying the body. So even after the cleanse you will continue to lose weight because items that you liked before that were high in sugar will become almost too sweet to eat. If you ate large portions before you will no longer feel the need to eat so much which will also help decrease the weight.

It is a wonderful tool for a full life style change, just make sure you don't get discourraged watching the scale daily, I didn't lose ANY weight at first either, which often throws people off and turns them off before they can see the results :)

Keep us posted on how you do!

Adriana 7 years ago

How long after you eat can you start the salt water flush? And the flush is only on the first day of the cleanse right?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Adriana- You can do the salt water flush immediately though I would suggest waiting until you have your next solid movement :) The flush by it's shear design will push it's way through the intestines and push out anything there.

As for the second question, I don't think you will like the answer, but the salt water flush is an every day thing :( As you do the cleanse the citric acid removes things that are lined on the intestines, and the flush pushes these things out. Remember there is no solid food in your system to get caught in the lining anymore but there is also nothing to push anything out. By the end of the cleanse and the flush it should come out quickly to put it politely. Some days during the cleanse you will have "solid" movements after the cleanse and this is what you are doing the cleanse for. To remove these things that have been stuck in the system.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Adriana 7 years ago

Thank you for that information! Every morning.. wow! Also, should I then drink the Smooth Move tea every night?

Adriana 7 years ago

Also, is it safe to exercise while on the cleanse?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Adriana- I did mornings because I am a stay at home mom. You want to do it every day, but keep in mind if you have a commute to work DON'T do it before you get in a car to get stuck in traffic :) And yes the Smoot Move at night helps to release more from the intestines while you sleep.

It is safe to exercise during the cleanse in moderation. I would NOT recommend running a marathon or even training for one while on it, but reasonable exercise is fine. You will be getting about 3000 calories a day, but not the protein, so just do it in moderation would be my suggestion. I swam, walked, and chased my 2 year old through mine and was fine :)

If you have any other questions as you get going please don't hesitate to ask!

Adriana Villa 7 years ago

Thank you. 3000 calories sounds like double what I should be having right? But I'm sure it's for a reason. My niece and I are starting tonight. I have just taken the salt water flush. Should I drink some lemonade in a bit or wait til tomorrow? And since I took the flush now do I take it in the morning again or wait til the next morning?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Adriana- Hi sorry about my typo :) it is 1,300 calories!

Congrats on getting down your first flush (I didn't get my first one down!)

You can wait until the day after tomorrow it won't hurt you :) Personally I would consider it the best move. If you want to start the lemonade you can, I would just not eat solid food. Once you have set your mind you are golden! I would do the Smooth Move tomorrow night and the flush starting the day after.

Keep us posted on how you do, having your niece do it too will also help keep you motivated.

PETER 7 years ago

im on day three of the cleanse and i read somewhere that putting the 2 teaspoons of sea salt in a small glass and adding a bit of the warm water and drinking it like a shot then drinking the rest of the warm water straight down is the easiest way to do the flush,so i tried it and it works just as good as the other way. sweet

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Peter-  Thanks for the tip I will have to check it out with my friends (the Doctors I am just the one who writes lol) and see what they say.

After doing it for multiple days and not getting the whole flush down on some, I can't see how it could be as effective because the way it works is that the salt bonds with the water and the weight of the water is what flushes through. If only a shot glass size amount of water is weighted, that doesn't seem like it would be as effective. The other water would be absorbed regularly because it would be just like drinking water (which is allowed) through the flush.

You would definitely push something through either way, I am just not sure if the secondary water would be adding to the flush or if you are just pushing through... I am just speculating though I will have to ask those who went to school for this to be able to be definitive!

I will definitely ask them though! I am about to do the whole thing again and if that does work just as well it would be much easier! Good luck and keep us posted!

KayC 7 years ago

Hi Bloggings2. Have found your site very interesting. Many thanks. I am on day 8 of the Cleanse (started on a Saturday) and have done the SWF on the weekends. I work full time and don't want to risk getting stuck in the car on the way to work! I have found the SWF very effective. Last weekend I drank the SWF straight, got through 3/4 the first day and then the whole lot the second day. Today I have added a squeeze of fresh lemon juice to the SWF and it made a huge difference, was much easier to get down. Seems to have worked just as well as last weekend. Because the juice is part of the overall cleanse do you think it is okay to add some to the SWF?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Kay-  First of all congrats on making it 8 days!  That is awesome!  I am glad that you have found some interesting things on my sites :) Keep us posted on your progess and what you notice!

As for getting the flush down, if adding a little lemon is the only way you can get it down, then I think it is OK, but I wouldn't put too much in.  I used the mix as a chaser personally :)

Laura 7 years ago

Just started the cleanse today. I am doing it with a friend of mine for motivation. I have a question though. I am 5'5 female and weigh 177 pounds. I have only ever gotten down to 165 and I was running seven miles a day six days a week. Do you think it's possible to get down past that by doing this flush? Maybe I am just carrying around extra toxins or something?

Also, I took the SWF, got it all down, and about twenty minutes later... well, you can get the rest, is that normal or what?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Laura- Congrats on starting the cleanse! It is a wonderful reset for your body and will alter the way that you eat, drink, and everything else! Now on to your questions :)

Weight is a big reason that people do the cleanse but it is not the main focus you should have. If you were running 7 miles a day 6 days a week, you also have to remember that muscle weighs more than fat. Now you WILL lose weight on the cleanse. No doubt about it, but if you do not use it as a reset you will just gain it right back eating the poor foods. I have known people who lost over 35 pounds while doing the cleanse, it depends on your diet previously and what is stuck in the tract (there is no polite way to say that lol).

The SWF daily will DEFINITELY help with this! And yes that is absoluetly normal. The longer you do the flush the faster it will go through, that is it's purpose and it does it well :) The salt in the water weighs the water down so the salt is not absorbed by the body and the weight of the water pulls what the cleanse has released from the intestines through the day through the tract to fully clean it out. (It will NEVER be clear, so don't wait for that as an end point.)

If you can do the flush every day you will see "solid" things still coming out in 7-15 days and sometimes even longer. These account for about 10 pounds of what you will lose on average. The other thing this will do is when you come off the cleanse your body will be able to absorb nutrients correctly again and you won't have to eat as much which will help to continue the weight loss/maintain the weight.

Keep us posted on how you do!

I heard that you could use Molasis for this instead of the maple syrup, is that true? And if it is, what kind are you supposed to use?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Kim- I have heard of many substitutes but unfortunately after talking with our Dr friends and research the ONLY thing you can use for this to have the fullest effect is Grade B Maple Syrup.

This is not easy to find, but Wal-Mart does carry it as do most of the major grocery chains. You just have to ask customer service to order it for you and they will order enough for your full cycle (you don't want to be 4 days in and run out!). I actually ordered enough for about 4 days more than I thought I could go because as long as they are unopened you can always return them to the store :)

kassie 7 years ago

Okay so I have done the master cleanse twice and both times I never needed to do the laxative tea or the salt flush. I had liquid coming out of me everyday all day it was overkill for me to do the flush. Some ppl just don't have to do it I guess otherwise I'm sure I would have ended up very sick. My body just knew to eliminate. I lost 2-3 pounds a day and on my frame thats a lot! 10 days and I was skeleton. I wanted to feel better with less aches and pains and that I had but the weight loss was a bit extreme and scary.

Hamish 7 years ago

To anyone and everyone who wants to do the lemon cleanse, I have done it twice already and just started my third time. Here are some tips I can give to you all which have helped me. But before I give you some tips, I want to clarify some points of questions I have read on all the other posts here.

1. You must use ORGANIC sea salt ONLY. No exceptions.

2. You must use ORGANIC B or C grade maple syrup ONLY. No exceptions. If you cannot find it anywhere, I recommend the following website. http://www.alishan.jp/shop/nfoscomm/catalog/ I am not sure if they ship outside of Japan but I think they do. The maple syrup they supply is exspensive but it is also the best 100% organic maple syrup I have ever found.

3. You must do the salt water cleanse in the morning everyday, unless it starts to burn you in anyway, then stop for a day or two and then continue, but do not stop the fasting.

3. You MUST NOT eat or drink ANYTHING (except the lemon maple drink or plain filtered water). No exceptions.

4. Adding the salt water drink to a chicken broth or anything else is a waste of time. The idea of the cleanse is to remove any and all toxins that build up in the body from the food we consume. This would include toxins from chicken broth or anything else.

5. There is no limit to the amount of lemon/maple drink mixture or water that you can consume, but be careful as even too much water can cause a person problems.

Ok I think I have clarified those main points enough. Here a some things that have helped me while doing the lemon cleanse fast. I hope they will be beneficial to you all.

1. Make a decision completely to do 10 days of the fast NO MATTER what before you attempt to start. Trust me this sounds cliché but it will help you in the long run.

2. Make sure you have enough of all ingredients. for 10 days you will need a minimum of 1 litre of organic maple syrup. Use only filtered water to make the drink with. I have found that what works best for me is 2 litres of filtered water with 100mls of maple syrup and 100mls of lemon juice and a couple of shakes of the cyenne pepper. You can add a LITTLE more or less maple syrup for taste. If you can't find cyenne pepper.

3. For the lemon juice, you can buy 100% freshly squeezed lemon juice and this works fine. If you are going to cut up lemons and squeeze them yourself, then I HIGHLY recommend you use a juicer (not a blender - a juicer). And be careful when you are separating the lemons from their skins, the lemon juice will spray onto your clothes and lemon juice is a great bleach. So unless you want white spots on your clothes, either cover them with an apron, or just remove them completely...(:

4. OK as we all know (those who have tried anyway) the salt water drink is an absolutely disgusting experience. I have found that a few options that work best for me when it comes to this part. 1. Put the salt into a glass with a little bit of hot water to disolve it, make sure it is well dissolved, you may have to break it up in the water with something hard or whatever. Then add a little cold water. Fill a separate glass with nothing but cold filtered water. Take the salt water mix in the first glass which should have no more than an inch of water in the bottom, and down it in one gulp, (BE BRAVE) then chase it down with the water in the second glass, and repeat with more water if you need. This way allows you to get the salt water down very quickly (in one or two gulps) and then the water from the second glass washes it down. Be warned though, because you are using such little water, the salt taste is extremely strong. But the benefit is that it is over much quicker. 2. Another way that works well is to use a big glass of water, mix the salt in the same way as I mentioned in number 1. and make sure that the water temperature in the glass is luke-warm, the colder the water the stronger the salt taste, too hot and you wont be able to drink it quickly. But if it is luke-warm the salt taste will be a little weaker and then take a deep breath close your eyes and down that glass. You may feel the urge to throw up but you must control that. Then once you have finished the glass of salt water, chase it down with a glass of the lemon maple drink. 3. One more trick you can try is before drinking the salt water drink suck on a couple of strong mints, and as soon as your mouth is all minty, remove the mints (or finish them) and then drink the salt water, the mint acts as a kind of taste numbing - usually just long enough to finish the salt water drink, follow it up with a couple of glasses of water or the lemon maple drink.

5. Finally make sure you have NOWHERE to be for at least 2 hours after you drink the salt water, trust me, don't even try to leave your house, you WILL regret it if you do. The laxitive effect of the salt water flush will hit you when you least expect it, and when it does you are powerless to stop it... you have been warned... hahaha...

Well I hope these tips help you all, remember there is no easy way to get around this process, it takes will power and perserverance, but the benefits far outweigh the downside. For the saltwater drink as a rule just remember that more salt = stronger taste but a faster process. And no matter what people say, drinking salt water does not get any easier no matte how many times you try it. But your ability to put up with it increases.

Don't give up!

Hamish 7 years ago

Please ignore some of the spelling mistakes in my post above, it is 5:30 in the morning and I am still half asleep. As for my number 2 tip, forget the last line which mentions the cyenne pepper. It was supposed to be deleted. The number 2 tip relates to the maple syrup only.

Thanks.

Kassie-  I apprechiate your post as it makes a good point.  Many think that since they are eliminating often (this happens when you run out of food in the system), that they don't need to do the flush or the laxitive.

The laxitive and the salt water flush are not meant to be a weight loss situation, and I am glad that you lost weight, but without the flush and the laxtive at night you did not receive the full results of the cleanse.  This is NOT to say that you didn't get great benefits from it, simply that it was unable to do all that it could have done.  The salt water flush as explained above is done because the weight of the salt with the water helps to clean off the intestial lining of what the lemon and cheyenne have released through the cleanse.  Gravity is not enough to push this through.

Again, congrats on being able to make it through twice and I am sure you were able to see a tremendous difference, but I did want to make sure that people understood that while I can 100% see where you thought you received the full benefits there is no way that could have happened without following EVERY step of the cleanse.  They all have a purpose even if we don't fully understand.  Luckily I had my doctor to explain why I needed to do them or I would have thought the same thing you said.

Hamish-  Thank you for the wonderful notes!  It is a wonderful thing isn't it!  (And we forgive the typo's :) )  I allow all posts as long as they are not degrading to someone else and yours was nothing but informative! And thank you for pointing out the ORGANIC Maple Syrup which I had not clarified in all of my comments.

Thank you so much for this page of detailed feedback. I did the SWF for the first time about five minutes ago, after reading all of this last night. The "imagine it's chicken soup" tip was INVALUABLE, as was the advice on keeping the focus on the BACK of my throat where the taste receptors are different. I drank it pretty hot, and got half down painlessly. Had to gulp the rest and mnaged 9/10 of it before I stopped. I figure I'm a small woman (103lb) so almost a quart for me is good enough! Now I'm in the Waiting Period! Thank you...

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Rachel- Thank you for the kind words, and most of all congrats on getting your first one down! The first one is by far the hardest! I commend you on getting that much down! Please keep in mind that it may take some time for the waiting period to finish esp the first few days! There was one day it took about 4 hours for me, this was a day I got quite a bit of results lol, and I am glad I waited! Keep us posted on when it gets easier for you, I love to hear success stories!

Bella 7 years ago

Hi! I just drank the laxative tea for the night and am about to begin my journey with the master cleanse tomorrow morning! I had a quick question though...After you drink the salt flush in the morning, is there a certain amount of time you should wait before drinking the lemon mix? I have read on your previous posts that you sometimes chase the salt flush with the lemon mix, but I just wanted to make sure that wouldn't interfere with the flush. So...do you recommend drinking the first glass of lemon mix fairly soon after drinking the salt flush? Or if possible, do you recommend not using it as a chaser and waiting an hour or so? Any suggestions would help! Thanks a bunch!

PS...I also commend you for a fabulous page with A LOT of useful information for newbies! Also, all the tips you and everyone else have supplied does wonders! Thanks for all the help and keep up the support and encouragement for everyone, including myself! Good luck to all!

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Bella- Thank you for the kind words, and please keep us posted as your journey progresses! As for your question, personally I didn't drink the "chaser" as one of my "regular" drinks of the day, but I did have it mixed to help get the taste out of my mouth. You are correct in that you don't want to dillute the salt water too much, but a sip or two with some swishing does wonders!

The flush goes through each person at different speeds, and remember the first couple of days you may not see the "full" results, I have had a friend who had zero results the first day (but I assure you the second day made up for it!). The speed of the flush will get progressively faster as the cleanse continues as it doesn't have as much blocking it's way.

So in clarification, as a chaser I don't mean a full glass of the lemon mixture, just a couple of swishes after you get as much down as you can to go again. Hope that helps!

Kerri 7 years ago

Today is Day 1. The SWF was absolutely the worst part of the entire process today, especially as your first drink on this detox. I used 1 tbsp of sea salt and filled a 1L jug with lukewarm water. At first sip, it wasn't too bad- the problem arised when you stop and try to drink it again....BIG MISTAKE. Although, the taste was awful- I did manage to get it down....and results within 45 minutes.

I absolutely love the taste of the lemonade - I especially like the kick of the cayenne pepper. I am halfway done day 1 and feeling very fatigued and starting to develop a headache - which I have heard and read is normal.

I wish everyone luck and looking forward to the results.

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Kerri- Thank you so much for the update and congrats on getting started the hardest part is behind you now!

Yes once you stop it is pretty rough to start again, but getting results makes it worth while doesn't it?!?! At least for me I felt like I had "accomplished" something.

The fatigue and headache are very normal. It comes from a variety of things but just a couple would be: 1. of course the detox that is starting to take place. 2. coming off caffine and sugar will be the primary cause of headaches. If you are big on either I hate to say but it will get worse before it gets better, but it WILL get better! 3. A large part of the cleanse as we know is mental, our mind thinks that we need the food even though we are getting more than enough calories with the drink.

I also loved the taste of the lemonade and would even "kick it up a notch" as Emerald would say with some extra cayenne sometimes just to vary it up some!

Keep us posted as you go through!

erin3 7 years ago

Hi, I was wondering if it is okay to do the SWF at night after drinking the lemonades during the day? And also, would there be a problem if I do the lemonade cleanse without the SWF or the laxative tea besides not getting the full benefit?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Erin- you can do the SWF at night, but the best results are in the morning, here is why. As you sleep the Smooth Move does it's work on the intestines along with your final drink of the day, removing the sludge that has built up. When you do the flush in the morning it picks all this up and flushes it out. If you can only do it at night it is better than not doing it at all though!

If you do the cleanse without the flush or the smooth move you definatley won't see the same results as if you do these. Personally I felt that if I was going to go through all of the other, there was no reason not to do these portions (though it was HIGHLY tempting to pass these up as they are aweful espically at first!).

grace 7 years ago

i want to start this cleanse, can it flare up hemroids? i don't want to have a flare up

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Grace- any detox has the potential to flare up any problems you may have had in the past, just because the detox releases all the toxins and clears them out of your system. So unfortunately you MAY have a flare up, but the other side is if it does the toxins will be completely gone by the end of the cleanse.

Michelle 7 years ago

I am 5'2 tall and I weight about 113 pounds...

How many pounds can I lose after doing this cleanse?

London 7 years ago

Hi

i have just started the master cleanse today and have just about managed to drink my 2 tablespoons+1Litre od water mix. it was pretty foul and i only managed about 3/4 of it.

i have made up my lemonade mix - but i was wondering how soon after the drinking the SWF can i start drinking it - as will it dilute the mix too much if i drink it too soon ....?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Michelle- Thank you for bringing up this point that sometimes gets glossed over! With your small size, you will definitely need to watch your calorie intake (You can get more than enough calories during the cleanse, by adding an extra drink or two, and the maple syrup would give you those.)

As for how much you can lose it really depends on what is "stuck" in your tract. With as small as you are I cannot see you losing more than 10 lbs. If you went any lower you would be falling in the anemic situation which is NOT the purpose.

If you chose to do it, I would definatly make sure to monitor that weight carefully and if you drop too much I would definitely come off.

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

London- I totally agree on how foul it is :) It gets a little better but not much to be honest. 3/4 is pretty good for your first go round!

I would not drink a full cup right after the flush, but you can use it to help get the taste out of your mouth :) I personally waited about 30 minutes before I went for my first drink of the day. The flush moves through pretty quickly, remember the salt is in the water to give it weight so it is not really "sitting" in your system to get diluted :)

Candice Jones 7 years ago

I tried to start the lemonade detox today- I bought the concentrated mix at GNC. It tastes awful when u mix 2 tbs with 8 oz of water!! I tried adding more lemon juice and more water but I gagged it down. I won't be able to stick with it if this is the case. Can u still eat mints? That's the only way to stop the gagging reflex for me.

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Candice- Personally I tried the concentrated mix as well (after I had done the cleanse making it by hand) and you are correct it is AWEFUL! By hand following the ingredients I have on the hubs, it really does not taste bad at all, it is a sweet lemonade.

As for mints, mints/gum/or anything of that sort causes the saliva to start being made which stimulated the digestive tract which defeats the purpose of the cleanse. I hate that I cannot give better news but I would hate for you to do the cleanse for however many days and not get the results from it!

Personally, I would return the mix to GNC, and buy the lemons and maple syurp (just buy enough to make one mix) and see if you can handle that. The taste is COMPLETELY different than the concentrate!

I wish I had better news but again I would hate for you to do it for any period and not get the full results.

Candice 7 years ago

Thanks! I will return it. I looked their return policy up last night actually and put the receipt in my purse!!

nikki j 7 years ago

I am just starting and i have read but would like into more detail on what you have to do exactly like salt water every meal or what??

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Nikki- well there is no meal :) and the flush is only done in the morning (preferably, but you can do it at night if needed), but only one time a day. It is by far the worst part of the whole thing but only once a day. The lemon drink is a any time you want it thing. Please let me know if this helps or if it is still not clear :)

nikki j 7 years ago

No this does help so, how long do i do it for and what are the measurements of things, the salt one i am wondering, And the lemon what or how do i do that one? This is cool i didn't know that i could do it myself. Or have home remidies

melly 7 years ago

My thoughts on the SWF are this: dissolve the 2 tsp in 8oz warm water, drink with a straw, and chase with 24 oz warm water. Even if you can get half of the salt down in one go, follow with water, and repeat, it should work out fine.

Plus, 24oz of water will totally take away the saline aftertaste.

Kisl3al3y 7 years ago

I am on it now and this is my 2nd time doing it, for some odd reason the 1st time the salt wasn't really a problem. This time I feel like Im going to throw up everytime I do the salt and it totally takes me out of commision for a couple hours cause it just makes me feel really bad. Today same feeling but it was easier to get it down by doing a double shot of salt water and following up immediately with a bottle of regular water. Same nasty feeling but much easier to get down

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Nikki- if you look through the hubs linked to this there are specific instructions on making everything and what you can expect daily with the lemon cleanse (remember everyone is different but I detailed my experience with the cleanse daily). I will also be doing it again starting Monday/Tuesday, and will track my progress (it keeps me honest!).

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Melly- If that works for you wonderful! I spoke with my Dr. friends about it and they said it is OK, but to make sure to let people know that the flush is designed with the intention of the whole 32 oz being used to cleanse the intestines as it is pushed through. By doing it that way the results should be faster, but not as thorough on the intestines. Still they said it is not a horrible thing and if it is the only way you can do it then absolutely keep it up!

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Kisl3al3y- I totally understand and can clearly remember sitting and crying to my husband and our friends who got us started on the cleanse that I was going to do it just not the flush. They were very supportive, but made it clear that it was one of the most important parts of the cleanse. I still dread it even knowing what is coming when I start again on Monday but I know how much better I felt when it was all done. I can say the more you do it the easier it gets, I know it doesn't seem like it but I swear it will! You will even get to the point where the only time you are out of commission is the time it takes for it to run through your system :)

aps 7 years ago

I am on day 4 of the cleanse. So far, the salt water flush has not worked. Last night i used approx 3 teaspoons of salt the correct salt and nothing...

So this morning i used the Smooth Move herbal laxative tea. It worked, but i am disappointed the salt water flush has not worked. If i am going to drink this horrible thing, i just want it to do its job. So tonight, i am going to take another smooth move tea. First thing in the morning, I will try the salt water flush again. Any suggestions?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

aps- Just to make sure, you are drinking 32oz of water mixed with the salt right? And doing the smooth move at night?

If you are not seeing results from that all I can say is that I think something is being done wrong, but I don't know what since I am not there. The first day or two I have heard of no results from the flush but that is due to a back up somewhere which means when you do have results they will be significant. Still if it is being absorbed i the body it is not good to continue as is. I would recommend doing the smooth move in the morning and evening for a couple of days and then trying the flush again. Giving your body a couple of days to loosen up the clog :)

Keep us posted!

Thanks. I am drinking the salt with the 32 ounces of water. I am going to take another tea tonight and hope for the best when i continue the swf.

I will keep you posted!! Thanks again for your prompt response.

Hi,

I have just stumbled across this page.

I am not planning to do a major cleanse...but am very interested in the salt water flush.

I often do juice fasts, and wondered if the salt water flush will work well on the day I start fasting?

Thanks!!

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Detox- The flush was introduced to me with the Master Cleanse, but I see absoluetly no reason why it would not work with any cleanse. The prinicple is still the same, the weight of the water due to the salt will push anything through the tract and that is always good. I do know a few people who do it once a month just to get a good flush through their system. I would recommend doing the Smooth Move the night before if possible, it really helps!

Allie 7 years ago

Interested 7 years ago

I am thinking to try and salt water flush, but I am nervous.

Is it totally safe? It sounds quite scary.

Is it ok to do if you have lots of digestive problems....like I often find I'm in lots of pain, have possibly got hemmorrhoids which occasionally bleed, and find that food just doesn't move through me very fast.

Will it be safe to do the swf with all this?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

interested- I am sorry it took me so long to check my pages, it has been a little crazy as I wrote in another hub. But in answer to your question it should be completely safe, you are not adding anything just pushing blockages through your system I would make sure you are near a bathroom when you do this though. The first time it may not work as fast but by the second time you will not have long to wait!

crazy girl 7 years ago

hi im doing the master cleanse right now and it's the end of my 2nd day.. i was wondering what's better, drinking the smooth move before i drink the rest of my lemonade supplies or after when i'm almost ready to go to bed??

8anp 7 years ago

I was wondering if this is at all dangerous doing these flushes because i just had my first "bowel movement" and it hurt. And I read on a laxative box a while ago that if you take too much of the required amount you poop out your intestines. I was scared that was going to happen to me just now. Oh and I was reading the comments above about not working your digestive track or something. Well I'm getting over a cold and I still have some mucus and when I sleep I swallow it. Is that a problem?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Crazy- After! When you are ready for bed. It allows the smooth move to work through the night, otherwise it gets flushed through your system before it has time to do what it does. Keep us posted!

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

8anp- As with anything if you do too much of even a good thing, it can be bad for you. As for the first "movement" it will probably burn, that is the toxins coming out :)

You should NOT be taking any laxitive during this. The smooth move is the closest thing and ONLY one drink at night.

The mucus should not be a problem it is not enough to alter the equation :) Please don't hesitate to ask any other questions you may have. This is definitely a case of doing what the directions say though, it is extensive enough as it is, there is NO reason to deviate from the plan. It gives you 3k calories a day, and the ONLY laxitive you should take if you want to call it that is the Smooth Move, and ONLY one glass a day.

Food Poisoned 7 years ago

Bloggin2, I'm really excited to have found this blog. It seems like great support, towmorrow is the fourth time attempting the cleanse. The farthest I've gotten was 2 days, but aways too scared to do the SWF. I just had my Smooth Move Tea, and am somewhat looking forward for the SWF tomorrow, though I know my thoughts will be different while downing the 32 oz. You're blog has given extra inspiration, and am ready for another go. I'll let you know if I have questions tomorrow if you don't mind.

Food Poisoned- I am honored by how many people have responded here and am more than happy to answer any questions I can tomorrow/today or whenever for you. It was hard for me to believe how much support was needed for me to make it through the cleanse the first time (and yes I cried while doing the SWF the first 3 days, and even thought of doing the cleanse without it, but could not bring myself to go that long without food and everything ele without getting the FULL benefits which required I find ways to get get over the flush.) There are many tips in the comments, not just mine, that have worked and please keep in mind that if you can't get it all down the first time that is OK. I marked the glass to give myself something more to shoot for the next day when I had those rough days (and you will have them!)

Keep us posted!

Marine's Wife08 7 years ago

Today is my first day on the MC and the SWF was...BLAH! I drank it down even though I keep gagging and was sure I would vomit :/ (Which I didn't in the end) I will for sure use a straw tomorrow. My goal is to stay on the MC for a full 40 days. I went out and bought the book and did a lot of research before starting today so most of my questions are answered. I do need to know is it ok for me to do light workouts on the MC? Nothing to terrible...prob just walking 30 mins every morn.

Thanks for all the great tips :) Have A GREAT WEEKEND

blogging2 profile image

Hi Marine's Wife- Congrats on getting started and while I would love to say the swf gets easier it remains the worst part of the cleanse but definitely worth it! My mother just finished 40 days on the cleanse and has had wonderful results, keep us posted on how you do!

Moderate exercise is OK on the cleanse. No marathons or anything like that! But you will be getting 3k calories a day so moderate (walking) would be OK. If you feel fatigued I would definitely say to stop but listen to your body. If you are fatigued or feel "out of it" back off!

Marine's Wife08 7 years ago

Did your mother lose a lot of weight with doing the cleanse the 40 days? Also if I can not drink the full half gallon lemonade daily is that ok?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

She did lose a lot of weight, I am not sure the exact amt but I will ask her and let you know. You want to drink as much as you can espically if you are planning on walking. You want to make sure you get enough calories to keep going, the point is not to starve yourself :)

crazy girl 7 years ago

thanks for answering my question! im also wondering cause ive noticed that im not hungry that much now so i stopped drinking all of my supplies. is that ok cause i really feel like i dont need that much anymore

Michelle 7 years ago

I heard that drinking about 25~35oz of water mixed with only one teaspoon of uniodized salt will also work.. Is that true?

Michelle 7 years ago

also would drinking 2 teaspoons of sea salt in a small glass then drinking some more water be as effective?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

crazy- your appetite will decrease but try to keep up at least 3/4 of what you are supposed to drink. You are not trying to starve yourself with this and you want to make sure you are getting enough calories which is why you need to keep drinking :)

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Michelle- I would love to say that either of the options you said would work but unfortunately you need the weight of the water to have the effectiveness. If you put too much in a small amount and then try to mix it in your stomach it won't work. The weight of the water is what causes the flush to work, without all of the weight it just won't have the effectiveness :(

8anp 7 years ago

Thanks. Now I'm wondering what I do on the last day of the cleanse. I have to do a salt water flush right but the smooth move tea isn't nessesary at nighttime correct? Because there wont be anymore salt water flushes after the 10th day.

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

8- I did the flush every day I was on the cleanse as did my mother (my mother did it for 40 days, doing the flush daily). With that, I am not sure I understand the question :) Please clarify and I will answer the best I can!

8anp 7 years ago

Oh sorry for the confusion. I was asking if on the 10th day of the cleanse if I have to drink the smooth move tea at night in addition to the salt water flush I will take in the morning. I'm only wondering because it will be the last day and I won't be doing a flush the next day. Oh and I'm only doing the cleanse for ten days.

In addition, is it alright to switch what time I take my SWF so late into the cleanse? It would be easier on me to take it at night now instead of in the morning. If so, what time in the day would I take the tea?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Hi 8 :) No problem! You want to take the Tea about 12 hours before the flush. At night is easiest just because it has time to sit in your system without being flushed through quickly with the drinks you are taking during the day, but if you have to switch it around to be able to do it then that is better than not doing it at all!

You don't have to do the smooth move if you are not doing the flush the next day, you can, it won't hurt anything, and the smooth move is beneficial itself but you don't have to. I personally liked the Smooth Move just because it gave me a little variety in taste (not much but something lol).

michelle 7 years ago

Can I use mint tea, or the smooth move tea as a chaser when I flush?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Michelle- I would not use anything not listed with the cleanse (the lemon mixture or Smooth Move), but I see no reason why you couldn't use either of those two as a chaser, I used the lemon drink as a chaser myself :)

jr 7 years ago

hi im new here and im thinking of trying the master cleanse, but would like to find out more first!

will the cleanse still help in detoxing your body if not done with the salt water flush?

this is because i do notice my body retains water easily at the slightest increase in sodium intake. im worried that the salt water flush will make me retain all the water that i've drunk throughout the day then wouldn't that defeat the purpose?

pls help! thankssss (((:

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

JR- I understand your question (I had the same one when I started) but there are a couple of things I want to point out, hopefully they help :)

1. You can do the cleanse without the flush but it is not nearly as effective. Now lets address the sodium issue (I thought the same thing).

2. You have to remember you are NOT increasing your sodium intake with the flush. The salt weighs down the water and pushes it through your system. It seems like it would cause a spike in blood pressure and water retention, but it actually does the opposite. The salt bonds with the water and is through your system VERY quickly.

3. You want to do the flush in the AM if possible. I did the smooth move at night to loosen things up as a slept, and then did the flush first thing to remove all that had come loose during the night.

If that did not answer your question please let me know and I will do more research for you!

jr 7 years ago

wow thanks! but im in university right now... if i do the flush in the morning won't it affect my day in sch if i have to keep rushing off to the washroom?!

and for the smooth move, will the 21st century herbal slimming tea (which has senna leaves) work? ((:

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

JR- Once it is through your system it is through your system :) The flush is not something that is going to keep making you "rush" throughout the day. I would try it on a weekend or at night the first couple of nights just so you can see how you are going to respond to it.

I am not sure but switching the Smooth Move for a Slimming Tea does not sound too good to me. The Smooth Move is fully organic and it is to help with getting the sludge off the intestines, something that is being promoted as a "slimming" tea seems like it would have other things in it that would counter act the purpose of the cleasne.

Monica 7 years ago

I tried the MC for 2 days and fainted for a little while on the 2nd day, but im on my third day now and i'm quite alright, just a little nauseous from the SWF and bit lighthearted but it's much better than the first two days already.. should I continue?

monica 7 years ago

Restarted my whole cleanse, had a halfday MC yesterday, and this morning took a SWF, not everything's out but I do think it came out quite alright. The water was just sooo salty and I felt like puking on it. I'm worried if I put too little salt the water will just seep through my system and enter my bloodstreams instead, then i'll have massive bloating and hypertension for no good reason!! But too much salt, I'm going to gag now.. it was 2 heaping teaspoons of non-iodised seasalt.

It's 3.30pm, I woke up at noon and did not have anything to eat other than the salt water so far. Not hungry, just craving for biscuits and stuff like that. But I keep telling myself just ten days and it'll be over! Cleaner system, stablised metabolism and 5 kg lighter hopefully!

Anyway there's nothing much to be done over the next week so I can might as well do this cleanse and get it over and done with.

I'll just consider today as a day 2,see how it goes. going to make a lemonade for myself now!

help! 7 years ago

Ive done the cleanse before ( about 6 months ago) and it was amazing!

I've just started again using the same recipe, but the salt water flush is not working. Nothing is happening! ...

What should I do?

monica 7 years ago

only half the water came out... i'm worried, will the salt water get stuck inside and absorbed into my system? too much sodium!!!help. . .

I restarted the detox, trying for a 6 day fast. Today's day 2, I woke up wanting to die..everything seems so tempting to be eaten, yet I want to be slim so bad...going to cry any moment,I couldn't sleep the whole night too!

yet I kept in mind my goal, being able to eat with friends slimly, or being my current fat rate and eating while looking piggy. That's how I got past yesterday day 1 with 6 cups of lemonade.

The salt water flush was seriously bad,it's alright in small amounts but I felt like throwing up right after that litre. Wish my luck to just get past today, I'll think about tomorrow when it comes. And it'll be day 3 tomorrow! Time flies, after tomorrow it'll be day 4, once that passes it'll be dayy 5 and i'll be looking forward to my last day- day 6! Weight loss won't be too obvious probably, but I just want to have a taste of how the fast is like,I've been sleeping my day off yesterday, and I think I'm going to have a nap, it's 8am now. and I woke up at 3am feeling really hungry.lazing in bed makes me stressed over thinking of the load of homework that needs to be revised but I think the weight loss is more important to me right now. I'll catch up for exams after this week is done. Anyone agrees with me? I just need to huddle in bed the whole day like I'm going cold turkey. Why's my mind so wEAK!

Heathear 7 years ago

On day three... I have had awful headaches and I am positively exhausted!!!! Couldn't hack the cayenne in the lemonade so left it out yesterday and the maple syrup with lemon doesn't exactly agree with my palate. So today I picked up the agave nectar and cayenne capsules. OMG- so much better! I'm just taking a couple capsules per serving. I might actually make it to day 10 now- there was no way before. Did the SWF on the first day and have been religiously drinking my senna leaf tea morning and night. Doing this whole thing to take off a couple of pounds but mostly because my digestive system is an absolute wreck and I needed relief. I am crossing my fingers that after this is over, things will be more normal for me.

Kelly 7 years ago

I am on day four and I know this sounds gross but I am sore from going to the bathroom so much, does anyone know if I can skip the swf for one night?

LBMH 7 years ago

I agree that the salt water flush is unbearable. I cant do it again. So i had a thought...is there any reason why the saltwater mixture cant be prepared in a smaller quantity of water (lets say 1 cup), then followed with the rest of the liter of just plain water?

Shelly 7 years ago

I am on day 2 of the Master Cleanse & have realized that I need to be doing the SWF. I have tried this cleanse a few times before with more success each time. The first time, I lasted for 2 days, the second time, 7 days, the third time, I lasted for 12 days(goal is 14 days). This time around, I intend to go for 14 days & incorporate the SWF & the Smooth Move as well.. The only problem is, going to work knowing that I just consumed something that will make have to leave my desk several times a day without my boss becoming irritated! Can the SWF only be done in the A.M? Can I drink the tea while at work & do the SWF at night?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

LBMH- unfortunately that will not work. The weight of the water is what pushes it through your system. One cup is not enough to accomplish that and it unfortunately it would not mix in your stomach as we would like it to :)

Shelly- You can do that if you need to. It is not as effective but much better than not doing it at all.

Jenny 7 years ago

Started the Master Cleanse yesterday. Haven't gotten ANY "results" except one very small solid. Is this normal! And I tried to do the SWF the regular way yesterday and just simply could NOT handle it. So now i take the salt in a small glass with some water and down the 4 quarts of regular water after.

Anyway do you know why nothing has happened?

Jenny 7 years ago

Now its been an hour since i drank the SWF. The SWF didn't work yesterday either. I'm not as worried about the salt water as the fact that i haven't gotten ANYTHING out of my system. I've been drinking the lemonade mixture. I know that that's only part of the cleanse, but shouldn't something still happen? So either I'm not doing something right or my system is just REALLY messed up hahaha!

Love your blog by the way. Very helpful!

Shelly 7 years ago

Okay, that's good to know. Perhaps that will explain what happened to me today!!! I tried the SWF when I got home from work yesterday. I wasn't able to get the entire amount down. I forced myself to the point of gagging. I tried the chicken noodle soup trick, the holding my nose trick, the chugging method, it was just....awful... So, today, on Glorious Day # 4, I drank a cup of the Smooth Move tea. I took it at about 10am & by 2pm I could feel some stuff having a conversation with my insides. I tried to let as much "build" as possible & then hurried to the bathroom. It was more of a liquid than anything else. I was able to have a few movements that way today. There was a time today, where I thought that I had to do the # 1 & the # 2 "liquid" came out!! I went back to my desk, thinking I was finished, when all of a sudden, the WORST pain EVER consumed my buttocks!! I can only describe it as a butt spasm because I could not MOVE!!! Mind you, I am @ WORK!! I was on the terror throne for what seemed liked 20 minutes. Finally the pain subsided & I was able to escape. I PRAY that this pain is not a normal part of the "cleansing" process because, I think... I will die... I am going to try the SWF again tomorrow once I get to work(OMG, saying my prayers now!)hoping for better results than today. As I sip my Smooth Move tea, I wonder what the rest of this journey is going to be like.

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Jenny- OK to make sure I understand what you are saying, you are trying to drink a small glass of salt water and then chase it with the rest hoping it mixes in your stomach? If so you will NOT see the results of the flush. It must be done (and believe me I know it is AWEFUL), with the salt mixed into the full amount of water. It will NOT mix in your stomach to get the desired results (oh how I wish it would). It is not unheard of to have a couple of days before you see the real results of the flush, but again it MUST be done as the directions say, not mixing in the stomach. If you can't do it the regular way, you are better off not doing it, though you will not see the full results of the cleanse.

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Shelly- I am not sure if I understood you right, but you will feel a burning with the flush which causes your rear to spasm until the toxins are out. The worse the burn the more toxins you are releasing. I am not sure that is what you wanted to hear, but it sounds like you definitely needed to do the cleanse :)

Jenny 7 years ago

Ahhh I see, I should have read more of the comments!Haha thanks though! Well, I'll try it out. But is it possible that ingesting all of that salt would raise your blood pressure? Like would the salt get into your bloodstream??? that's something I'm worried about!

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Jenny- Above there are a few comments reguarding this (tip: Do a searh/find for blood pressure on this page) but the short version is, if you do the flush the way it is supposed to be done, mixing the salt with the full amt of water and dowing it as quickly as possible, the salt bonds to the water, and weighs it down. This weight is what "pushes" the water through the intestines and creates the "flushing" of them. If you do it the way you said, then yes it could have adverse effects as it is not bonded to the water and some could be absorbed into the blood stream (more than you would want there, I am not saying you are going to die, just that I would not recommend that way again).

indyatalks 7 years ago

I must be weird or something, because the SWF is not that unpalatable to me. I think it had something to do with the association (haha) I remember 'drinking' the sw I was supposed to be gargling with when I was 4 or 5 yrs old and had lost my tooth. Makes me think of my grandma. So I sip and wait for the poop. LOL.

This blog has been quite interesting as I wait for the results and sing the Jeoparding music in my head. Thanks!!

guest 7 years ago

I tried the swf twice and each time I puke, I cant take it. An I re-read the book and its not manditory to use the swf it tells you to drink the laxative tea in the morning and at night. An to only use the SWF to help the cleanse along. So thank goodness for that other than that I am day 5 now of my second cleanse, and after the couple days which caused me to have serve miagraine headaches (did not take nothing cause ya body is suppose to heal naturally, did use 3 ice packs for my headache though). I am more alert, energized, and I feel better.

SM 7 years ago

How much time should I be taking to actually drink the SWF? Does it need to be chugged? What is an ideal time for complete consumption?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Guest- While the SWF is not mandatory, you definitely do get better results using it than not. The headache was your body releasing toxins and it is great that you were able to make it through without taking anything :)

SM- You don't want to take forever (it is aweful any way) so I found the faster the better, and the better results!

SM 7 years ago

I took a little under an hour last night to drink the SWF, and nothing happened after all that gagging. Ugh. Don't want to go through all that again if I'm doing it wrong. If you had to give me a time frame, what would you suggest? chugging just will NOT work for me. I'll gag.

Having my first lemonade this morning. Spicy.

I'm doing the cleanse for the second time. I'm on the end of day 1. Is it ok to drink the SWF at night? Also, I drink the solution by drinking it very concetrated and then using water as a chaser. Last night when I did it...I had no reaction. I was wondering if the salt mixed with the water enough by doing it that way? Also, I take cayenne tablets instead of putting it in my drink...is that ok? Last thing I was curious about was I am actually doing this because I have a swollen saliva gland under my chin. It comes and goes but has been there for awhile. The Dr. said maybe we should take it out. I don't really want to do that and the last time I did the cleanse it seemed to go away for a three months or so. Any input on this?

SkierMike 7 years ago

Sorry just read the above about the chaser. I started reading at the beggining and then just skipped down to write my question. Thanks for all the help.

SM- The first day my husband didn't get any results either, the second made up for it though lol. The rule of thumb is as fast as possible, the fastest I was ever able to do it was about 15 min. I started at just under an hr, and over time just got sick of it and the straw helped me get it to the back of my throat. Had I tried to drink it out of the glass there is absolutely no way it would have happened.

Skier- No problem! Good luck! and keep us posted!

SkierMike 7 years ago

It's odd that last year when I did the cleanse I used a small concentrated dose of salt water and chased it w/ the rest of the reccommended dose of water and it worked just fine. This year when I went to do it the first two times I did it, which were the same as last year, I got no response. I decided to change and drink the Salt water mixed up on the third day and got a response. I only wonder if doing it at night verse morning has anything to do with it? My first cleanse I did everything in the morning and this one I decided to switch because of schedule stuff. But today when I decided to do the SWF in the morning and drinking the 32 ounces mixed it worked. Just curious. Anyway after drinking the concentrated salt water the diluted version is almost welcomed. At this point I think it's easier to drink it the way it was intended. Took me 15 minutes and a few swigs of my lemon mix to get it down. Thanks all and goodluck to anyone else doing it right now.

SkierMike 7 years ago

I had an interesting thought last night. What about using a beer bong to guzzle down the salt water flush? I know funny right but it would work wouldn't it. Could be a way for everyone that can't swallow the stuff to handle it. You can buy them on ebay for less than $10.00 or make your own. What are your thoughts?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

I think it is a great idea! The point is to get it down as quickly as possible... and from what I have heard ;) is is pretty effective for beer. If you give it a shot let us know how it works!

Jess 7 years ago

I'm glad I read this first so I know more of what to expect (read alllll the comments too!) I unfortunately cannot do the MC because my husband already thinks my vegan lifestyle is crazy, he'd think I'm starving myself or something if I tried the full MC - but I want to! I did however just do a SWF (waited till after a good BM) but I only had refined sea salt, I hope that's ok! for me the problem isn't the taste - I've grown up gargling salt water for sore throats and canker sores - it's the sheer volume! I'm not used to consuming so much liquid at once. Also I think I could get away with doing the MC for maybe a weekend, but I only have Grade A maple and can't find (or afford, really,) to get B. . . . I know the sugar content is higher, do you suppose decreasing the amt could compensate for that? I'm only 4'11" and 110lbs so I can't see it being a problem since I'm tiny and don't consume that many calories anyway . . .

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Jess- Maybe if you showed him the calorie intake is more than the recommended through the day that would help? I would not recommend the Grade A vs the B, you can often find it at Publix or higher end groceries for not much more than the A. If you go to the health food stores it is much more!

Sara 7 years ago

I read that you can use blackstrap mollasses instead of maple syrup. Is this true to the best of your knowledge? I want to start but only have the mollasses not the maple...

p.s. the salt water sounds horrid - i'm making it right now... *scared* lol

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 7 years ago from Florida Author

Sara- I have heard that as well, the Maple is the best but I have had friends use the blackstrap mollasses. The flush is the worst part by far lol, but I think there are quite a few great tips on here to get you through! Will power baby! Will Power!

Alaska13 6 years ago

I have read, and tried many flushes through the years, and wanted to add my 2 cents here. With ABSOLUTELY every flush.. the key ingredient is simply water. It reminds me of the fable of the soup.. all the guy has is a stone and hot water, and he gets everyone to add something, carrots, potatoes, little this little that and magically the stone and water made soup. What the body needs to eliminate is simply water. I have to force my wife and kids to drink what I feel is enough water to stay healthy. VERY FEW PEOPLE DRINK THE WATER THEY NEED, VERY FEW!!!

I read the opening comments and the part about where the salt water is "heavier" and pushes everything through. Not really what is happening. Remember all that we learned about osmosis in school. This salt water flush works for the same reason a salt water fish cannot go directly into fresh water. Osmosis tries to balance the two and the salt water fish gets invaded with fresh water, and the cells go pop. Salmon have to make serious adaptations to deal with this as they leave salt water and enter streams to spawn. When you drink salt water A) your colon and stomach contract, and get active, and B) fresh water from your body invades your colon.. I read about people getting headaches from this fast/flush.. no kidding. If you drink salt water YOU WILL GET DEHYDRATED. And not just a little. Water is absorbed into your body in the large intestine.. when you drink salt water... the opposite happens. Water from your body(and you need this in your body....lol) enters your intestine.

For me all I need to do is drink the 32.. or maybe 50 ounces of water.. and presto bingo... off to the races. I have seen the most exotic cleanses, and flushes.. and they all work mostly because they ask you to drink copious amounts of WATER!!(the soup fable)

If you do the salt water flush realize you are dehydrating yourself, and will need to drink more than 32 ounces to get hydrated again. If the salt is offensive simply try say 50 ounces of plain clean water... enough water that your body cannot move it out, and your colon gets saturated.. trust me, things will move. In addition your liver, kidneys, and all vital organs will thrive, eliminate, get healthy and make you feel like a million bucks. Our bodies have been doing this for years, and good clean water and simple nutrition is all we need to be healthy.

Just my 2 cents..

kileigh 6 years ago

I was wondering if I am going to do the cleanse for 30 days Should I do the salt water flush everyday for the whole 30 days. I have already completed 10 days and done the flush every day but I am not sure if I am supposed to still do it everyday after the 10th day. Thanks

kileighhawk 6 years ago

I was also wondering about B12 I noticed there are b vitamins in the cleanse but I do not see where the b12 would come from... Should I take a b12 vitamin if I am going to go for 30 days..

Newbie 6 years ago

What you say makes sense Alaska13. With plenty of water the body will thrive. Also, as far as the 32 - 50oz of water, if you warm it up, the results are faster.

Good luck to everyone on the cleanse.

joz 6 years ago

I've read most of the comments and didn't see this suggestion for the SWF - I know someone mentioned mints, but I found it very effective for my first SWF this evening to rinse with Listerine for 30-45 seconds, numbing my tongue. I was able to chug about 20 oz. or so without tasting it too much. I quickly rinsed again with a tish of the mouthwash and chugged the final 12 oz. All in all I probably did the whole thing in less than 2 minutes. Gross, but worth it, and I was really glad for the mouthwash numbing!

great idea joz and better than mints as it does not add anything to the digestive tract!

I am on the 3rd day, i got a really bad headache yesterday and today so my husband let me sleep SO I didn't get much of any Lemonade down. I probably got 1 1/2 liters combined!! so pretty much im starved myself on accident because i was so sick and slept! :| should i keep going with it and just make sure i down the 2 liters or did it pretty much break the cleanse?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 6 years ago from Florida Author

Tori, the headache is 100% normal. It is the toxins leaving your body. If you can keep going I definitely would, the hardest day is done :) You can drink extra of the lemonade to make up for what you didn't drink yesterday which should help. And don't forget you won't starve from one day of not eating we do that often enough as is. You are feeling the release of toxins that have been in your system for years, but are equating it with starvation because you are not putting solid food in your mouth :)

joz 6 years ago

One other thought I had after posting yesterday... my sister, a dental hygienist, reminded me of the importance of caring for your teeth during the master cleanse. The combination of sugar and acid in the lemonade is a Dentist's worst nightmare, right alongside of soda! And drinking 6-12 glasses a day is virtually bathing your teeth.

So, as a reminder, brush your teeth regularly, and my sister also recommended swishing with water before brushing, as the aggressive motion of brushing could brush the acid deeper into your teeth.

I wish Patrick :) I am 118 lbs and still do the whole thing, it is no fun, but it is what you need to do to get the best results :( The first time is the hardest and I don't think I got it all down the first time, but it gets easier I promise :)

Monique 6 years ago

I'm starting the cleanse tomorrow, (can't wait) but my question is can you make a daily worth of mix and take it to work or wherever you may need it?? And after the flush I have an hour drive to work, will I have to stop or can I make it to work without incident.

thanks

Monique- I generally make enough for the day and then take it whenever I feel like it, it helps me to know kind of where I stand for the day :)

I would NOT recommend an hr drive after the flush. If that is the case I would do it at night, not first thing in the am. You really don't have time to get out of the car and to a bathroom much less find one when you need it, if you know what I mean!

Lucinda 6 years ago

I'm having problems with the master clense. I'm following all the instructions correctly but the salt water flush does not seem to be working properly. I am now on day 4. The flushes I did on day 1 and 2 did not work at all. The flushes on day 3 and 4 came through me but in dribbles throughout the day, not with any urgency. And no solids came out, just liquid. I don't think the full amount of the the salt water came out either. My lower tummy/intestines feel bloated and painful, like I am still holding some of the salt water and it won't come out. I have not weed it out either so I know that I have got the correct salt water amounts. Any ideas what is going on? I really want to get the full effects of the clense but i'm worried im damaging myself.

blogging2 6 years ago from Florida Author

I have heard of the flush not going through once but not more than that. You are using UNiodized sea salt right? and chugging it? Making sure there is enough water and salt is a key to getting the full results. If that is not working, I would recommend not doing it for a couple of days, and if the pain continues I would definitely consult a Dr. There won't be much solid since you are 4 days into the cleanse, but it should come out quickly and with urgency...

Lucinda 6 years ago

I'm pretty sure that it's uniodized, im using SAXA sea salt but maybe there is a better brand to use? Im drinking a litre of water with 2 - 3 teaspoons of salt, and yeah chugging it down quickly. Do you think that some of the salt water is stuck in my intestines? It's fustrating because I feel like my tummy is bigger now than it was before I started the cleanse! Is it not normal to feel a bit bloated?

Thanks

Hi,

I tried the sea salt water clease but after drinking I threw up almost everything and did not have the courage of drinking back the same amount of water.

How do you do not to throw up ?

Hi I read that you had your gall bladder removed. I am 23, had my gall bladder removed when i was 15. I had trouble with diarhia after that so they put me on meds for it. Was wondering if you had that issue and if the master cleanse helped? I started the master cleanse today.

Sara- using a straw is the only way I can do it without throwing up :)

Snake- the cramps are normal until it is out, it is the pushing through that is causing them.

Mighty- after cleaning up my diet and the cleanse along with Chriopractic care the issues I had are gone (unless I drink caffine lol)

I find it easier to take the 2 teaspoons of salt with a mouthful of water, like taking pills. Then immediately drink the 32oz of water. You get the horrible taste of salt over and done with in less than 5 seconds.

This has been said a couple of times, and I have researched it only to find unfortunately that it is not recommeneded by the Dr's. The reason being is that with the salt not being bonded with the water prior to taking it can be absorbed by the body whereas when it is bonded prior to entering the body, none can be absorbed.

It is definately a nice change of pace while doing the cleanse :) And it does help as well, it is like it loosens things up at night for the flush in the am!

HELP! i am not doing master cleanse; i'm doing my own juice cleanse/religious fast. i wanted to do the SWF, but put in "iodized sea salt" and got 16oz down before i read to only use un-iodized. what is going to happen? should i run to the store and find un-iodized and drink 16 more ounces of that? should i forget it and start all over later today? will anything happen with the iodized sea salt?

what a shame to gulp that nasty stuff all to no avail...i only did it 20 minutes ago, so technically still in the waiting period.

please post if you are online - quickly! thanks in advance!

It is not going to kill you :) I would wait until tomorrow to do it again with the un-iodized, but don't worry too much :)

Mari 6 years ago

can i do the master cleans without doing the salt water cleans?? i cant drink the salt water for the life of me =(

nawal 6 years ago

i just started the lemonade cleanse and the SWF and i dont think that the SWF is that bad at all actually i enjoy it but then since i had to drink a whole liter got a little harder in the end but not bad at all had no desire to gag or anything just that my belly was so full lol the only thing is that i red so much about this whole cleanse thing and not every one mentioned the non iodized salt so thats what i used coz the other one isn't powder but bigger balls so takes longer to melt ... i guess have to get the other one now .. this is my first day with the lemonade i love the taste of it i feel just fine little headache here and there but goes away .. i guess cant be worse then not eating any thing for 4 days but drinking water and thats what i did coz i wanted to loose weight so bad and i know its not the right way coz all i do is hurt my body and in the end probably just get dehydrated... so im trying to go minimum of 14 days i seen people done it for 30 or 40 days in youtube and they had no problems but felt great i think i can do it the only problem is that i miss food now and i can smell it anywhere and very strong! but i am determined to do it .. ill let u know what happends in the next few days and thank u all for posting your experiences and tips that was very helpful and encouraging by the way some one said it has to be organic salt i asked for it at the health store they said there is no suck a thing sea salt is just see salt... any one has any idea??

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 6 years ago from Florida Author

Mari- You can do the cleanse without the flush, you just won't get the full results, but some is better than none :) I had a horrible time at first as well as you can see above but the straw REALLY helped, and using the warm water while telling myself it is chicken broth lol.

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 6 years ago from Florida Author

Nawal- awesome job! The further you get into it the easier it gets as far as smelling the other food :) Keep us posted on how it goes! As for organic sea salt, the key is just to check the ingredients and make sure that you are getting ONLY sea salt, I know it is hard to believe but they do put fillers in a lot of things :)

nawal 6 years ago

i am on day 7 of the cleanse and eventhough i liked the SWF at first now i hate it every time i think of it want to vomit so i'm doing a couple days with the smooth move teah and one day SWF and it seems to work just fine the only thing is that the tea doest relly make me go to the bathroom the way the SWF does ... and im loosing the weight very slowly .. however yesterday i couldn't take it i cheated went and had me a burger that i didn't enjoy at all felt more like disgusted so now i know not to do that no more i did the tea at night and the SWF and every thing was out i dont worry much about that coz im going hopefully for a 30 days clean .. one thing also thats scaring me is that this whole flush thing made me get hemorrhoids all over again and this in no joke thats one other reason i slowed down the SWF not to have to many bowel movements a day which agravates the hemorrhoids .. also one thing i have a hard time sleeping at night but then i sleep all the way once i fall asleep .. other then that im ok not that energised not out of energy i feel light not bloated my clothes feel way better.. ill let u know what happens in the next few days

Meromaine 6 years ago

Day 4 of the MC; hating (and having no effects from) the SWF, but I otherwise am feeling well. Enough energy to exercise, which is amazing. I have lost 6 pounds and I'm pretty sure it's mostly fat (the naked body in front of a mirror does not lie)

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 6 years ago from Florida Author

Nawal- Keep us posted, you will find when you come off the cleanse that one of the results is that you won't like the things that are "bad" for you anymore, you will have to "re train" yourself to like them if you chose to lol

Meromaine- The syrup is what gives you the energy and it is amazing isn't it?!?! Keep us posted!

Would anyonne like a follow up on things to do weaning yourself off the cleanse?

Vanisa 6 years ago

I cannot seem to find the Grade B maple syrup, so I purchased several bottles of Grade A. Will this alter the effectiveness of the cleanse?

Vanisa 6 years ago

This is my first day on the cleanse. I have been drinking the "toxin" as my boyfriend calls it throughout the week and slowly eliminating meals. I was on a strict 3 meal a day diet because I had a bad habit of skipping meals. Anyway, this is my first day that I plan on not eating anything. I'm going to do the cleanse for at least 10 days, hopefully more depending on how my body feels. One thing I did notice was that when I started drinking the lemonade, I no longer had cravings for unhealthy snacks. I work in an office, you know how that can get. Coworkers offering snacks, potlucks, etc. I could never turn down cookies, soda, chocolate, muffins, etc. When I started drinking the lemonade, those cravings went away. Now anyone can come by me with a Snicker bar and I won't be tempted to run and get myself one. I was driving down the highway a few days ago. I saw a billboard with a McDonald's ad for some ridiculously big burger, normally I would get real hungry and start craving one but I actually got disgusted. I have been drinking the lemonade for a little over a week, just eating a fruit or vegetable salad or a bowl of oatmeal once during the day, but even though I was still eating, I just didn't crave burgers and all that other junk. It's amazing! My diet prior to starting the lemonade was pretty healthy, but I always had cravings so bad that I HAD to make sure I had sugarless gum to satisfy them. Well now, I don't even need the gum. I can already see the effects! I'm feeling real good about starting out fresh today! Wish me luck!

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 6 years ago from Florida Author

Vanisa- You will not like my response but if you do not use the Grade B syurp there is absolutely no reason to do the cleanse :( I know that Publix carries it (that is where we got our last batch), and any organic store. Return the Grade A as you do NOT want to drink that much of it, you will only make yourself very sick. Wish it was better news but don't want you to waste your time. Keep us posted on your progress and good luck!

Vanisa 6 years ago

Ok. Thanks!!!! I kept the receipt so I'm good! Lol

Ida 6 years ago

Good Afternoon - this is my first time using the Master Cleanser, however, am I to use the SWF every day? Thank you ever so much and I await your response.

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 6 years ago from Florida Author

Ida- To get the best/fullest results yes the SWF is daily, I know it is no fun, and I tried to skip out myself but was infomred by our chiro friends that while I could skip it if I really couldn't handle it, I would not get the best results. Personally I wanted the most bang for my buck so to say so I choked it down lol.

Ida 6 years ago

OKAY!!!! smile THANK YOU SO MUCH for this helpful information.

ladyluck 6 years ago

First of all wow, I'm so glad I found this page! It answered a lot of questions I had. Thank you so much for all of the effort you put into this page!!

I'm starting my master cleanse tomorrow. The only problem is that I work in the morning/during the day and have class a few nights a week. I know it is best to take the smooth move at night and do the flush in the morning, but I'd rather not risk having the ...movement... while I'm at work! LOL!

I have a few hours between work and school, would it be better to do the flush then, in the afternoon? Or would it be better to do the flush after school/at night when I get home from class?

Another question, should/can I still take the smooth move if I'm not doing the flush until later in the evening? And if I can what time would you suggest drinking it?

Thanks again :)

Rebecca 6 years ago

The SWF doesn't work for me. I have follwed directions to a "T" and yet no BM... Is there anything I can do? I really just keep "upping" the salt and I am getting no results...

I use Organic Sea Salt. Also I drink it some what warm, like room temp (YUCK!) Can It be tried cold ?

Vanisa 6 years ago

I've got the Grade B, I found it right at Publix! Starting a full cleanse today! Thanks for the info! Wish me luck!

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 6 years ago from Florida Author

Ida- Good luck!

Lady- I would do them basically 12 hrs apart (or as close as possible lol) We all do have a life (well I don't have much of one but I do try!). As long as there is some time between you should be good, the smooth move just loosens things off the intestines to help the flush get it out. So if you really wanted to after the flush, does it's thing for lack of a better term, you could do the smooth move before you go to bed. The flush is VERY fast acting but I would do it at night or on a weekend the first time to see what results you get and you can gauge a lot from there. Hope that helps some and good luck!

Rebecca- I have never heard of the flush not working for more than a day or two. The weight of the salt water basically has no choice but to get through. I would definitely look into if there is some other issue if you have done it multiple times and had no results at all. I am not a doctor and do not want to overstep what I have personally experienced and been told by my Dr. friends. How much are you drinking if I may ask? (And cold is actually worse and I would not recommend it as it will contract the bowels as it goes through.)

Vanisa- Awesome! Good luck and keep us posted!

Rebecca 6 years ago

Thanks a lot , I did the SWF at 10 pm last night and had a BM at 5 pm today.

Vanisa 6 years ago

The SWF wasn't that bad actuqlly!! I drunk it so fast I got light headed, but I got it down. I used the lemonade as a chaser also. So far so good though. I'm on day two of the cleanse. I have a slight headache but I am not hungry at all.

Diana 6 years ago

I tried the SWF yesterday, but no BM. I'm thinking that either 1) I prepard the salt water wrong or 2) I'm constipated right now, which is affecting the SWF. My tummy has been rumbling all day/night, but not BM. Any suggestions?

catdrake 6 years ago

Can I mix the salt with a little warm water and then shoot it like a shot and chase it with the remaining 32 ounces of water? Today is my first day and I gagged the SWF the entire time going down, I could handle a salty shot much better.

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 6 years ago from Florida Author

Diana- The only suggestion I can give is to keep it up :( the weight of the water will flush itself out at some point, it has no choice. But the waiting part is definitely not fun and when it does make its way through you DEFINITELY want to be by a bathroom!

Catdrake- I wish I could say yes, but unfortunately no. The mixture is what weighs down the water to get the effect. Sorry to not have better news :(

I tried doing the SWF yesterday (3 times!) and threw it up each time. So no salt water - I don't think - actually made it through my whole system. But I still had side-effects such as major fatigue, slight nausea/dizziness, loss of body heat, and was very pale. I tried again today and actually managed to keep it down. The symptoms have returned. Is this normal?

Also, it took an hour or slightly more for the liquid to pass through me. Is this also normal? Others seem to have quicker results.

And in all my trips to the washroom, I didn't pass any solids, anything of a dark nature ... or anything abnormal. What went in .. came out. The ONLY thing that came out was the salt water - albeit it was yellow, just like pee.

I have done several other cleanses in the past .. including the Master Lemon Cleanse .. and I usually have some form of build-up elimination. Is it normal to have nothing but liquid come from the SWF? I can't BELIEVE that there is nothing in me to get rid of!

I've been really bloated and uncomfortable in the stomach. And I was hoping that this would help to eliminate whatever is causing this. But by downing all that saltwater, my stomach bloated even more .. and I've just felt relatively miserable (with those other side-effects mentioned above) .. and there doesn't seem to be any "waste" coming out of me.

Are there any suggestions you might have?

One last thing - is it remotely possible that my body may be ABSORBING the salt and I could be harming myself with an overdose of sodium??

Chris 6 years ago

So, I have tried the SWF twice now, to no avail. I used two teaspoons the first time, and one teaspoon the second time, and got nothing but a big uncomfortable belly full of salt water... ugh.

Any suggestions?

Shannan 6 years ago

I am doing the swf as I type this and, I don't know if it will kill the effect, but after every four gulps, I chew a small piece of pineapple wedge. It kills the after taste of the salt and keeps it from coming up. I also use a straw and place it as far back in my mouth as I can. Hope that helps.

cris 6 years ago

I am starting the Master Cleanse tomorrow. I wanted to go ahead and start it by doing a SWF today, but I just ate my "last supper" lol...how long should i wait after eating before doing the SWF?

Dana82 6 years ago

I am starting tomorrow as well!! I have been planning this for awhile...I did the cleanse for 10 days a few years ago but this time I plan on going for around 20 days.

The flush was truly and experience for me I drank all of it down. I will never forget the feeling! But not even 7 minutes later....Ooooh my! Just stay home and only do it when you have no place to be. The sea salt flush is very effective.

I became brave enough around day 12 or so.

Kimmy Lou  6 years ago

this is my third time doing the cleanse. I find a straw helps as well as pinching the nose.

Tim M 6 years ago

I'm on day three of the Master Cleanse and I gotta tell you day one trying the SWF tested my gag reflex like nothing else I've tried to drink. I managed to get it down, but felt pretty crappy and nothing really happened. Day two I tried again and took the advice of getting it a little warm and I did it in 16 oz. increments. The first 16 oz. (warm) was rough, I then tried the second 16 oz. room temp and it was a little better but still no massive BM. This morning (day 3), I also did it in two 16 oz. portions and to my surprise, I didn't feel like projectile vomiting. I laid down on my right side for 1/2 hour, felt a couple of pangs in the nether regions, but when I went to the bathroom, very limited eliminations. I haven't tried changing the salt/water mixture because I thought I just might need time, but I probably will try something different tomorrow. Also I'm using Celtic Sea Salt that says "no processing" which I'm assuming means non-iodized, but I have some other that I got from Walmart that does say "non-iodized" which I'll probably try. First time on the Master Cleanse, and ready for some good results!

Jacqueline Gumbs 6 years ago

It's been 2 days since I started my cleanse and the salt water it is yuck but I still try even though I do not drink the whole 32oz. What does the Cayenne pepper do? Is it ok to use Epsom Salt? It is a laxative also. Please let me know.

TIFFANY 6 years ago

1 TIP for the flush is DO NOT GULP the saltwater mixture down. As soon as I did to finish off the amount I had left to drink I threw up. It was all water but throwing up never feels good.

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 6 years ago from Florida Author

Jacqueline do NOT use epsom salt. Uniodized Sea Salt is the best. It is the weight of the salt you want nothing else. The Cayenne in the mix irritates the lining of the intestines and helps to release more of what is clogged but this is with the cleanse mix.

JC 6 years ago

I got the salt water down but an hout later I threw it up. This has happened the last two times. I was really thrown off after the second time. Is there any trick to keeping it down. It seems weird that it is not when I am drinking it. I have yet to have any movement when taking it.

ronald  6 years ago

To avoid the gag reflex with SWF, squeeze juice from half a lemon into the salt water. It completely neutralizes the awful taste of the sea salt and warm water. Also use spring water for the flush as opposed to tap water. Good luck.

chris  6 years ago

So today was my first day of the Cleanse and consequently the good ole SWF. I was not prepared for how hard it was to get that stuff down. I chugged and got down most of it ..but when I came up for air I couldn't do it anymore. So are you supposed to the SWF and laxative tea together or can you do one or the other?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 6 years ago from Florida Author

Chris: Yes it is absoluetly aweful and as much as I would like to say it gets better it doesn't :) You get more resolve as you go on but not better. You are supposed to do the SWF and the laxitive (not at the same time but on the same days) it is not one or the other. I did the laxative in the am and the flush at night the second time just to make sure I didn't have to go anywhere once I did the flush. Good luck

chris  6 years ago

blogging2:Thanks for the advice, I will try the flush at night on Day 2.

S.W.F Hater 6 years ago

So I am preparing to begin my very first Lemonade Master Cleanser, but I don't know anyone who has tried this before so I am getting all of my information from your blog. I am not sure I can complete my ten-day goal without support and-or commentary on my success. Any input to my daily posts is appreciated.

12345 6 years ago

I researched the differences between grade a and b syrup and supposedly the only differences are color and taste so it doesn't make sense as to why you can only use grade b.

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 6 years ago from Florida Author

SWF Hater- Any help I can be I am more than happy and anyone who wants to add in please feel free, the only posts I won't allow are those that are spam :) Making it through is hard and support is a key!

12345- The primary difference is in the processing methods and the amount of sugar. If you use the grad A, you will be getting more sugar, and the processing methods are different, then you will be getting quite a bit more sugar and processed junk than you want which will affect the results of the cleanse. By all means though if you feel it is better to use the short cut (I know the grade A is easier to find), please do not be surprised to get different results than what you have read about here. Good luck either way it is hard to make it through at SWF Hater has said above!

chris  6 years ago

So I made it through Day 1. Got up this morning to do the SWF...I got even less down than before. I can't do it...I just can't do it. If the salt water flush is the catalyst that makes this thing work...I'm screwed.

12345 6 years ago

Its day 1 and i just did the SWF and i tried taking the shot of 2 teaspoons with water and i threw it up..any thoughts on why that happened?

chris  6 years ago

12345- Cuz it's disgusting

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 6 years ago from Florida Author

The flush is by far the worst part of the whole process, I did a couple of days where I didn't do the flush at all (my first time I am sure I wrote it somewhere but not sure which hub :) ). The only way I finally got it where I got it down and was able to do it consistently was sheer will power. I never did the shot thing as I was not 100% convinced on that theory so I am not sure the results received are accurate, I have allowed others to post as you can see but no personal experience there. I was told by my Chiropractic and Dr. friends that you can do it without the flush, you will receive results from the laxative and the cheyenne just not the full results as if you do the flush. For me the best method I have found is still straw to the back of my mouth, get it down and rub my belly. It generally takes less than 30 min for me to "get results". But if you are thinking it gets easier it doesn't, resolve to complete just gets stronger :)

12345 6 years ago

Chris...No kidding its digusting. but something tasting digusting doesn't just cause you to throw up..i drank it and it just wouldn't stay down after i drank all of the water afterwards. Obviously it wasn't agreeing with my body.

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 6 years ago from Florida Author

12345- The shot may have been too much salt at one time undilluted. The stomach is not where the water is supposed to mix, (unfortunately), the whole reason the flush works is because the weight of the water due to the salt pushes it through the body, it is not mixing in the stomach or even sitting in the body at all it is literally is in one end and out the other. Good luck!

12345 6 years ago

Ok. Thanks for the advice. Do you have to drink 8-12 glasses of the lemonade a day or are you only supposed to drink it when you get hungry.

12345 6 years ago

AND can i try the salt water again in the same day because i couldn't keep it down this morning or is that a bad idea?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 6 years ago from Florida Author

12345- Personally I would not try it again today. I would wait until tomorrow, that is just me though, I like to separate things that I find unpleasant :)

katie 6 years ago

Does it have to be sea salt? or just not iodized?

Nicole 6 years ago

and do you have to drink 6-8 glasses a day or just when your hungry?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 6 years ago from Florida Author

katie- I used sea salt again due to processing. It is more natural, and cost was the same, it is in any Publix or really any shopping center I believe.

Nicole- You want to drink the 6-8 glasses to get the calories to be safe. And to make sure you are staying hydrated. The flush will push quite a bit through your system so better safe than sorry :)

Malissa 6 years ago

i am starting tomorrow morning so i have NO idea how bad it is... id assume it tastes something like the ocean but warm... sounds nasty but im going to take it in shots (like liquor) try and just litterally throw it back asap... good luck every1.. wish me luck too!!!

Hello, i almost finished reading your whole blog site just now using my handphone.lol. I really love your tips and comments and im getting so much info on what' good and what's not. :) thanks a lot, my goal is to do 40 days , Im asian and i live here in singapore.the only problem im having is getting the maple syrup. :( im really overweight for my height and i haven't looked this bad of all my life, so, il keep u guys posted. :) GOdbless :)

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 6 years ago from Florida Author

Wow Master, you are not joking if you are looking at going that long! I have found that we use about a bottle of the maple syurp a day when we are doing the cleanse. If you are overweight as you say make sure to order enough, you will want to make sure you can get the calorie intake while you start to kick the toxins out.

Masterbaker 6 years ago

Yeah i get what you said now because i just finished work and i am really weak. But im gonna stick to the rules until i get the maple syrup tommorow morning. Dont do the mc guys without the complete recipe, so u wont be like me,i think im gonna get real sick tomorrow. Goodluck to me :(

Brandy 6 years ago

I started today and I have to say that the salt water is very difficult. I only got about 25 oz down and nothing happened. The mixture is not very good either. I have to chug it too, to get it down. I hope I can make to day 10.

LILA 6 years ago

question: Doesn't salt water flush make you boat since you are drinking so much salt?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 6 years ago from Florida Author

Brandy- good luck and keep us posted!

Lila- I am not sure which hub it is in, but I do explain that in one of them... the salt is not actually absorbed by the body, that the point, and why you want the uniodized sea salt vs the "regular" salt. The salt adds weight to the water which in turn pushes it through the system. Personally when doing the flush it was not in my body more than 15 minutes total. Hope that helps!

saltiskillingme 6 years ago

i'm sure the answer is "NO" but I have to ask. can you put small amount (maybe 1 oz) of lemon juice in the salt water to make it slightly more bearable?

hali 6 years ago

do you use iodized salt? I know sea salt is preferred but what are the consequences if i used iodized salt?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 6 years ago from Florida Author

saltiskillingme- unfortunately no, BUT you can have one of your "mixes" made up beside it so when you chug the salt water, you can for lack of a better term "rinse" with the lemonade :) I did this on many occasions. You won't want to drink it all but a few swallows to help you clear out the taste in your mouth won't hurt anything!

Hali- Iodized is NOT good. Uniodized sea salt is best (because it is nautral and the way it is made is not manufactured), but if you cannot find or get it you still want to make sure it is UNiodized. It has to do with the absorbtion rate :)

Masterbaker 6 years ago

hey guys. :-) im back :-) im on my 16th day now of the masterclanse. so far i still dont feel the need of eating. even so ,the hardest part of the diet was realy the salt waterflush. but it is definitely more effective than just drinking the tea alone. so far i lost 17lbs. from 170lbs, im down to 153lbs. my frends now are all getting surprised on how quick my look has changed. :) im not doing 40 days cuz my only goal is to lose 20lbs. thanks bloggings, your blog site helped me a lot. :) Godbless us all :-)

Courtney 6 years ago

I tried to start the MS and I did the salt water flush and drank all 32 oz of the stuff - I ended up throwing up all day and night and was just completely sick for the whole day. Has anyone else had this problem? Should I just start with maybe 12 to 16 ounces of the flush and work my way up??? Any thoughts?

Steph 6 years ago

I don't have sea salt but I have a huge carton of kosher salt that I almost never use. Do you know if it's okay to use non-iodized kosher salt in place of the sea salt?

I read in a few places that the reason table salt doesn't work is that it's iodized.

kyles 6 years ago

today is my first day and im sitting here drinking the salt water umm between heaving and typing to you guys its shocking but im determined so will go buys straws and also do the lemonade chaser .. now i know why my dog gets the runs every time we go to the beach hahahaaa she drinks the saltwater every time .....

JJ 6 years ago

Hello, I'm on Day 5 and I'm using Grade A 100% Organic, I wasn't sure which to get and I guess I picked the wrong one. When I run out which is soon, I will pick up Grade B but there is no more sugar in my Grade A product than the B one. It's just a difference in color. Other sites have said that A is okay as long as it is Organic and not Mrs. Butterwoths or the like.

I've done the salt water flush 4 out of the 5 days, one day my schedule just didn't allow it. I find that I need 2 hours to be free and toilet near. I get about 28 ounces down and just can't take the other 4. Yesterday I was already down 10lbs. I'm assuming that the weight loss will taper down as I go into the second half of the cleanse. Or should I expect to continue losing at this rate.

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 6 years ago from Florida Author

Master- Congrats! Just remember this is to cleanse the body and help remove the toxins and the desire for the toxins. If you go back to eating like you did before it will all come back... but on the positive side I found that I had no desire to go back to the things I knew were bad after, and even when I did try them they did not taste the same!

Courtney- You want to make sure to drink enough to get the weight needed to push it through your system. It would depend on your weight/height/etc to make that decision :)

Steph- I am not 100% on that one but think you would be OK. The Iodized is the biggest issue. The sea salt is just organic is why we used it, trying to stay as "natural" as possible, I just don't know enough about kosher to know the processing methods used.

Kyles- Keep with it! Determination is key! You are SOOOO right with the dog!

JJ-Just switch when you go in I would not consider it the end of the world :) The weight loss is mostly determined by your size prior to. (For example if you were 115lbs when you started, there is just not much left to lose, while if you were 40+ lbs over, it is a different story :)). Keep us posted!

Hi,

Does anyone here live in Vancouver Canada? I cant seem to find the smooth move tea anywhere, only online. I started the cleanse yesturday and thought I could just go out and buy it today but I can`t seem to find it anywhere.

Please help if you can thankss :)

Guest Ontario 6 years ago

I'm in Ontario. I could not find the "smooth move" tea either. I ended up buying another laxative tea that contains Sennoside A & B ("SD's tea"). It seems to work although it may be too strong for me and so I might steep it for 1 minute instead of the recommended 2.

One more thing about being in Canada. Apparently the grading system of maple syrup is different here. I am using Canada grade # 2 amber (recommended by folks at health food store instead of "grade B" (could not find grade B in a locally produced product and local is important to me). There is also a Grade # 3 here in canada but I was told #2 is perfect for the cleanse.

Oh and I'm on day # 3 and it is an amazing experience. Day 1 and 2 weren't bad but I had low energy. Today--tons of energy and feeling real groovy this afternoon.

Guest 6 years ago

I also noticed that about the maple syrup. The store I went to was out of number 2 so I got 3. I hope thats ok. Im having a lot of trouble finding any kind of laxative tea, Its really weird, but I guess ill just keep trying, if I dont get it do you think it is ok to skip this step and maybe just do the salt water, like I have been doing ? Thankssss! :)

Guest Ontario 6 years ago

I was told by the people at the health food store that the number 3 was fine to use. I'm not sure about the skipping the laxative tea though. I have been using it every night. I have also done a sw flush everyday except for today (early appointment).

Day 4 and 5 were amazing for me. Euphoric even. Today (day 6) I was a bit sluggish but feeling good.

Anabelle 6 years ago

What would be the results if you did a salt water cleans every morning but for the rest of the day eat low carb, healthy meals.

and how long would you have to wait to eat breakfast after the salt water ??

Guest Onterio- I would follow what they tell you as I am unfamiliar with the Canadian system, I know you want to make sure it is not the "regular" processes syrup :) That is great that you are doing so wonderful, it is amazing what happens as the toxins release and wait until you do start eating again! The lining of the intestines will be so much cleaner that you will notice you don't need near as much food to get the nutrients that had to make it through the sludge before!

Anabelle- You can do the SWF as a flush, but if you don't do it with the cleanse I cannot tell you what the results would be. It is kind of like doing an engine flush and then putting the old fluids back in. The flush will help clean it out, but you will NOT get the results of the cleanse without actually doing the cleanse. If you want to do it that way I would do the flush at night, you don't want to eat after it I promise!

Alisha- Thank you so much for the kind comment! I really do try! It is wonderful how many people are starting to do it themselves!

lisa 6 years ago

I think this question may have already been answered, but I can't seem to find the answer among all of the posts. So here it is...I've just begun the master cleanse and finished the Salt Water Flush minutes ago- my question is...do I now take the laxative pills right after the flush? Or do I drink the tea instead? When do I take the laxatives?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 6 years ago from Florida Author

Lisa- Wait a minute... what laxative pill? On the cleanse there is the Smooth Move Tea (not a laxative, just a stool softener), the syrup, lemons, water, and salt water flush. If you are taking laxative pills on top I am really concerned you may dehydrate yourself and I do not want you to do that based on something you have seen in my writings! After the flush I would chase it with some of my lemon/syrup water, but honestly it took all I had to get it down in the first place, I wasn't trying to take anything else after it :)

megan 6 years ago

Hi

i am trying to do this cleanse and i find the salt water almost IMPOSSIBLE to drink...I was wondering, if i put 2 teaspoons of the salt into gelatin capsauls and swalled them as pills then immediatly after chugged down a litre of water will that be the same thing? they sell the empty gelatin pills (literally just the casings) at my local drugstore

blogging2 6 years ago from Florida Author

Megan,

OH how we all wish!!! Unfortnately there is absoluetly no way around the flush but to close your eyes, hold your nose, have the "lemonade chaser" and chug. I wish I had better news!

megan 6 years ago

hi again

i am just wondering why the pill idea wont work? wont it just disolve in my stomach with all the water?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 6 years ago from Florida Author

Hi Megan- when pills "disolve" they do so at various times depending on the digestive system/stomach contents/metabolism etc. The way the flush works is that the salt is disolved in the water prior to ingesting it and this mixture weighs more than regular water. If you take the pill and then drink the water, the water will pass through faster than the pill can disolve (or at least a portion of it will) and all you will do is drastically increase the amount of sodium that your body has to break down. That is why the mixture is so vital prior to ingesting it and why it works. You have to have the water weighted prior to it entering your system or your system will do what it does and disperse it before it can be mixed with the salt that is eventually released from the capsule. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

Terri Huang 6 years ago

I was wondering if you can start this cleanse at night a couple of hours before you go to bed? Would that be okay or is it more effective to start it in the morning?

Thanks.

To the best of my knowledge you can start it at any time :)

duramater 6 years ago

I'm on my second day of the MC and not feeling too bad. Had to differentiate between hunger and craving..that was the worst of it. Tonight was my first SWF and after reading the posts, I was a bit worried I wouldn't be able to do it. I'm a gaggy gal. Soo..I added a bit of lemon juice to the mix, imagined chicken broth, and got it down in a matter of minutes in front of a mirror - no problem! Now the waiting... :)

Valentina 6 years ago

My 3rd day on the cleanse and I'm feeling greatt! I love the light and fluffy feealing when I drink the lemonade which is simply de-lish! The SWF is a bit intense and everytime I do it I tell myself I hate it and that I won't do it again but after I go to the bathroom I say its all worth it =) I am doing the cleanse with agave nectar since I am pre-diabetic and so far it seems to work fine but it's only my third day so who knows... I do have a question though - I bought a herbal laxative tea and it is way too strong so can I just do the SWF at night every night? And nothing in the morning? I work during the day and I took the lax tea last night and had pains ALL dayy! Which is not exactly ideal if you know what I mean... Wish me luck on my 4 day! Woohoo! Healthy body here I come!!

Thanks :)

Valentina 6 years ago

Btw, I just did that SWF and tried it sipping with the straw and worked wayyy better... Thanks for that tip =)

Hi blogging2

I just read up on this MC today . I live in Canada and I am going to start this MC on Monday after Thanks Giving. The only problem i am having is finding the right maple syrup...here in Canada they don't grade their pure maple syrup it just says Canada's Pure Maple Syrup:( so what I am wondering is do i just find a organic maple syrup ?? I will try our wal - mart here... and question two is...how long should i wait to go to the gym after i start this i will be going for ten days for sure but trying to do 15...i am way over weight and just want to do a MC this will be my first time ever I am kinda freaked out for the SWF thing thank you for the tips

Valentina- If the laxative is too much for you, by all means don't do it (or maybe just on the weekends when you don't have to go to work through the day easy access to restrooms!). Good luck on it and keep us posted it really does work! NP with the tips there are lots of them in this hub by now lol I LOVE all the tips people are proving!

Butterfly- if you go to the top of this hub and do a search I am sure someone has mentioned the syrup in Canada and what they found. I just don't remember it off hand. If you link to my other hubs there is also one specifically on the ingredients you want to use and I believe there have been comments on it as well for those in Canada. As for question 2, if you are drinking ALL of the mixture through the day as directed you are actually getting close to 3,000 calories a day. This means that you can work out, but I suggest listening to your body and not doing too much. Personally I have a 4 year old so I really don't get "down time" just have to go through when I do the cleanses lol. If you are in your opinion "way over weight" be prepared for something else... You will have a mental task ahead in that you have trained yourself to think you need more food than you do. Psychologically it is harder than anything to remember you are getting more calories than the "average" recommended amount even if you are not actually chewing food. Keep us posted and if you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask. And one more thing, you may want to add a little extra cheyenne to your MC mix if you can, it will help agitate the linging of the intestines to release more of what is stuck there :) Personally I just like it more with more cheyenne!

Valentina 6 years ago

So it is the end of my 6th day and I'm feeling awesommmee! Just wanted to let someone know, my family is hispanic so they believe in eating A LOT so they think that I'm starving myself and I'm so tired of trying to explain it to them! Thanks for the support =)

Valentia- Congrats on 6 days, you should be hitting the euphoric stage, things are clearing out and when you do start to eat again it will be easier to absorb along with so many other wonderful things. Keep it up! And you can let them know you are getting more than enough calories! :)

Once you get past day 4-5, it actually gets easier. You will not want to go back to "real food" until you know you are clean. It makes you feel so much better!

Andrea 6 years ago

I'm so glad I found this post. I am starting tomorrow and I am sooo excited and nervous. I feel like I a completely dependent on food. I associate it with happiness, so I'm looking forward to breaking the "addiction" and proving that I can be happy and fulfilled without eating a chicken and biscuits (I live in the south lol). I also like to exercise but it seems like since I've turned 30 I'm getting bigger not smaller and it's much harder to lose weight and sooo easy to put it on. I'm hoping that this will help to reprogram my thinking and my metabolism. I also have lots more aches and pains than I used to and I'm hoping this will help since I think you said your chiropractor recommended it. I think I'm most nervous about being hungry. Oddly enough, I know the taste will be bad but the SWF doesn't scare me. Any tips? Also, can I exercise or is it better to just take it easy since I won't have any carbs or protein?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 6 years ago from Florida Author

Andrea- Congrats on starting the steps to "breaking the habit" of food for comfort! It really is amazing what the Cleanse can do for you! Our chiropractor swears by the cleanse and actually does it twice a year themselves even though they eat 100% organic! I think all the tips for the SWF are in here, just close your eyes and know it will be worth it in the long run! As for exercise, you know your body better than anyone, I exercise through mine and I know the chiropractors adjust through theirs (yes it is VERY physical!), but they also start on the weekend so they have a chance to get ready for the week ahead. I would not go "all out" with exercise but you don't want to just sit either, remember you will be getting more than your daily allottment of calories so you can gain weight if you are not saying active!

Rayca 6 years ago

I understand the concept of The Master Cleanse with the SWF. However, do any of you have or know someone with kidney disease, hypertension and a host of other illnesses that could surely escalate if the SWF is not flushed EVERY TIME YOU DRINK IT. Is anyone here old enough to know the dangers involved in 2 full teaspoons being absorbed into your body. There are many blogs, posts, threads where people find nothing happening for a few days. Where has all that sea salt gone to? Please know that I am not bashing the concept. I get it that it's been around thousands of years, etc. but really, how dangerous could this potentially be? I'm here to learn, not put anyone down for what seems to work for them. I'm jealous, truth be known but I will not undo the hard work I've done to bring my blood pressure into balance. It just seems wrong and counter-intuitive for me.

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 6 years ago from Florida Author

Rayca- Please don't appologize for asking questions. First let me say again that I am not a docotor and I do not claim to be. I only put on what I have been told, researched, and spoken to doctors about myself. The SWF is the flush itself, you do not do anything else to "flush" it out or make sure it is all out. The amount of salt is important and making sure that it is throughly dissolved is another facit that MUST be done. This is why you can't use the capsules as someone suggested earlier, or gulp the water after you take the salt. The bonding of the water with the salt is how the body does not absorb the sodium as you are describing. The bond of the salt and the water makes the water heavier than "regular" water which is how it "flushes" the system. It should not (and in my experience does not) have time to be absorbed. It picks up what is loose on the walls of the intestines on its way through. I have personally done the flush over 20 times myself and my husband has done it more, neither of us has ever had it "sit" for more than 20 minutes. Within 20 minutes we had better be near a toilet (sorry if that sounds crude but it is true) or we are in BIG trouble!

EVERYTHING has potential dangers (for example I rarely use my cell phone anymore after having a brain tumor), and NO ONE can tell you if it is right for you. I would recommend talking to a Chiropractor, holisitic care doctor, as well as a nutritionist if it concerns you. You do not have to do the flush in order to do the cleanse, yes it is more beneficial if you do, but if you are concerned then I would do what is most comfortable to you.

Keep in mind if you ask a "medical" doctor they will tell you the whole thing is a hoax and it is a bad idea... Personally I feel that 16 vaccinations at birth can't be a good idea even though it is what they wanted us to give our daughter when we had her (including Hep B). Please don't get me wrong, as I said above, I had a brain tumor and had it not been for WONDERFUL doctors and nurses I would not be here writing this today, but I look at all aspects and make the decisions I think are best.

Hopefully this helps some, if you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask.

nvlauld 6 years ago

I am planning on starting this tonite with the swf. i noticed a comment that stated using pre prepared lemon juice is okay. Well... i think you will find with research that the enzymes in the lemon is important to the detox and these only live for a short amount of time, therefore if you are going to go through all the ups and downs of this detox you may as well use fresh juice.

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 6 years ago from Florida Author

nvlauld- Thank you for noticing that someone must have commented on that, esp if I did not respond to it as you did. You CANNOT use prepared lemon juice. It won't get the same effects and as you say, if you are going to go through this whole process that is a step you CANNOT bypass! thank you for bringing it to my attention that I had not clarified that!

Rayca 6 years ago

Thank you, blogging2. I did run it by my nutritionist (who has done and swears by the SWF and the Master Cleanse.) I didn't realize that when the salt and water are mixed together, it won't sink to the bottom of the glass (like table salt). I think I get it now. I also believe the type of salt being used has all the nutrients that salt is supposed to have, also making a huge difference. I agree totally with you about vaccinations. I use doctors for what I need them for and that's it. I would NEVER even mention this to my doctor. I know exactly what the reaction would be. I didn't tell her when I went to see her when I was in the middle of a 21-day juice detox. That pot, I don't want to stir. Thanks again for giving me more info.

Christine 6 years ago

I am on Day 3, and have skipped the SWF today, I opted for the Smooth Tea instead, just couldn't do it today, thought I was gonna die yesterday trying. I think I will do it tomorrow, and hope that I still get good results rotating every other day with SWF and Smooth Moove Tea.

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 6 years ago from Florida Author

Christine- Do what you can :) But keep in mind you do the smooth moove tea daily as well, or you can. I did both daily through mine :) Good luck!

Christine 6 years ago

Thanks, I did the SWF this morning, a modified version I saw from another blogging site, worked like a charm.

I put 2 tsp of Sea Salt in a cup of water and downed that real quick, followed by the rest of the water, that way I only had to have 1 small salty glass, but same amount of water. Got it all down in less than 3 mins!

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 6 years ago from Florida Author

Christine- Good luck with that, but let me say something real fast for those who read my posts... That is NOT the same amount of water. I hate to be a downer, and I am sure that the small glass did shoot through and give the impression of "working" for you, but many on here write about hypertension etc with their concerns of the SWF.

Doing it the way you did, you have 1 small glass of weighted water, which is is actually more heavily weighted than the original design of the flush, meaning it won't pick up as much on it's way through the intestines and it should go through much faster.

Again I hate to be a downer but I want people to know that liquid mixing in your body is NOT the same as the weight distribution being done in the glass.

Christine 6 years ago

Thanks for the FYI, and don't worry about being a downer.

The benefits of the cleanse far out-weight the SWF. It seemed to work the same as my last 3, but I'm going try again tomorrow with a Straw. (About my other post earlier, I only meant switching the morning cleanse every other day with another "Smooth Move Tea", as of course I'm drinking one every night. I didn't mean instead. Thanks.

Great blog!! I’ve gotten all my ingredients now it’s just down to timing!! To those of you who have done he cleanse can you tell me if it will be okay to do this cleanse baring in mind I’m a correspondent for magazines and travel a lot by car…I’m concerned that I will be to weak or that I would pass out/faint from not eating?

And then my biggest concern – will the saltwater flush be done every day!? My working hours/days differ and I might not be able to do it every day…will this be bad or okay!!?

Thanks

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 6 years ago from Florida Author

Stan- Thank you for the compliment and good luck. In answer to your questions:

1. There is absolutely no need to worry about being weak. If you drink all of the mixes you will be fine! Some have even gained weight by drinking too many as you will get easily 2,000 calories a day :)

2. The flush is something that is very helpful, and really only takes about an hr a day at a max. If you can't do it, then the cleanse will still be helpful, but the more consistent you can be with the flush the better results you will see when you begin to eat again. If you have to skip a day here and there though due to your schedule you are still better to do the cleanse without it than to not do it at all.

Hopefully this helps!

I just started the cleanse on sun and so far i have lost 3lbs. i wish i could lose more but my body has always been low on fiber so bowel movements were very rare for me. I only go after i drink the SWF and no more after that. is there anything i can do to pass more waste out of my body. I am hoping to lose about 25 to 30 lbs on this cleanse i am planning to go either 20 to 30 days... It is sooo hard food is so tempting since i have to watch and cook my husband and toddlers meals..

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 6 years ago from Florida Author

Kayla,

First let me say congrats on getting started! Second let me make it VERY clear that this is NOT a diet in the sense that you want to watch the scale daily :) You don't want to increase your movements if that is not what your body needs, as it is able to absorb the nutrients it needs and better digest the food you will pass more. Make sure you are drinking ALL the mixtures you are supposed to drink otherwise you run the risk of not giving your body the nutrients it needs :)

It will get easier not eating as the time goes on and you realize you don't need to but that isn't until about the end of the first week :) Also make sure to explain to your children that you ARE eating, you are just eating a "special" diet drink, otherwise you run the risk of them thinking they need to not eat in order to change their body which is not good. You are doing the cleanse to be HEALTHIER NOT skinnier, it is VERY important to explain this to children as they are very impressionable and if you don't, you run the risk of them thinking they need to not eat in order to get a better body. We all need to eat, we just want to do it in moderate amounts and quality food :)

Thank you Blogging2 your words are very helpful and encouraging... :-)

hello i just wanted to ask when do you see difference in our weight i mean do decrease weight during salt water flush becoz i am doing onli the salt water flush and not the whole master cleanse.becoz i just want to lose some weight fast!

and should we eat very lite during salt water flush!!

glad to find this blog

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 6 years ago from Florida Author

Priyanka- Well unfortunately here I go again being a downer... If you are not doing the cleanse and only doing the flush you are pretty much wasting your time. This is not now nor was it intended to be a "fast weight loss" thing. It is part of a whole process designed to alter your way of eating and train your body to be in control of food, vs letting the food control you.

The flush is an addition to the cleanse, not the other way around. If you are eating regular and just doing the flush, I really don't know the damage you could be doing to your body, but my thoughts are that it could not be good in anyway. The mixture of the cleanse and the cleaning of the intestines with the flush allow for better absorbtion of the nutrients your body needs from the cleanse mixture (lemon, water, and grade B maple syrup), if you are trying to do the flush while you eat you are not allowing your body the time needed to absorb what it does need, and that cannot be good.

Again, I hate to be so blunt but what you wrote sounds very dangerous to me, this is NOT to lose weight fast. It is NOT it's purpose, goal, and most often not the result from the cleanse itself. The flush without the cleanse is just going to push through what you actually need while not really being able to clean anything... Kind of like saying you want to clean your shower but you don't want to use any soap scum remover or washcloth, you just want to spray water on it.

This will be my first time doing the Master Cleanse and I am wondering about the salt water flush. I met someone who drank 8oz of water with 2-4 teaspoons of Epson salt in place of the regular SWF and he said it made it way less difficult to drink and worked wonders... I have read that Epson salt can and cannot be used and am looking for more info on the situation... any comments?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 6 years ago from Florida Author

Kermitk- PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do NOT use Epson salt in place of the Uniodized Salt!!! I cannot emphasise this enough. That is VERY VERY VERY bad! Epson salt is not made to be drank, it is not it's purpose and should not be injested! I have no idea what that person was thinking and it would have been "easier" simply because they used a smaller amount of water so they had to get less down. They would have had "results" of course their body was trying to get it out of it as quickly as possible. The SWF is the hardest part of the cleanse and unfortunately there is no real way to make it less so. If you want to adjust alter or deviate from it please just don't do it at all, ANYTHING other than the designed method is not what you need to do.

Dorit busy in NYC 5 years ago

Hi there, Im on Day 8 and just finished a salt water flush.

Sometimes if I know Im running around a lot in NYC I will just do senna tea in the morning and in the night, and then the next day I have more hours at home I do SWF.

so awful...

I also put a little extra syrup if I have to teach dance classes and run around all day.

I figure I need a little extra energy.

Also for those first timers.. I have to warn that my first MC was extremely painful til day 5. I had such horrible joint pains that I could not walk or sit down.

I had to constantly massage my legs and back to move all the toxins.. and then one night after I though I could not release anything else,, something odd came out and the next day my joints were recovering.

Days 3 and 4 are very difficult for me past 5... and Im home free.. except for the awful SWF. YUCK!!!!!

Good luck to you all.

Not sure if Ill go past 12 days this time with the holidays and all. I usually work a lot and need the energy to perform.

Happy Healthy New Year!

Dorit

At this point barely anything comes out, and this is my second MC this year.

I've gotten so much great info from this page! Thank you so much for having it and answering all of these questions. I'm finishing my 2nd day and not having any problems aside from how terrible the salt water flush is. I'm finding that I really only need between 2 and 4 glasses of the lemonade though-partly because I'm really not that hungry or feel that I need it and also partly because I'm trying to spare myself from spending the money on the syrup which is kind of expensive for a college student around here. I'm wondering if drinking less than 6 will be a problem though. Any thoughts? Thank you so much!

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 5 years ago from Florida Author

Guest- Thank you for the kind words and while I FULLY understand both the desire to save some money and the lack of hunger keep in mind that the drink is the ONLY calories you are getting. If you don't drink enough you run the risk of damaging the muscles from lack of nutrients which would be a bad thing :) In order to determine how much you need to stay safe I would recommend looking at if you drank the full amount how many cups a day would that be for you? Every cup is different is why I say that. From there, extrapolate (fun college stuff again lol), look at how many calories you are getting. Then look at your weight/height etc to determine if you are getting enough to be safe. For example at 5'3", and 120 lbs, I need significantly less to be in my "normal" safe range than say a 6'5" 220lb person. Hope this helps!

Sage 5 years ago

Hi: I NEED ADVICE on the Salt Water Flush (SWF). I began the Master Cleanse the day after Christmas and on the morning of day 4, I VIOLENTLY threw-up the entire contents of the SWF. The upper portion of my face was literally purple after heaving (sorry for the graphics). My face was swollen for 2 days, my voice was very weak and I was so nauseous that I felt like I was going to throw-up at any moment; even the herbal peppermint tea (non-caffine and organic.....which is allowed during the cleanse) I managed to drink later that day after I threw-up. Obviously I didn't drink any of the lemonade or smooth move the rest of day 4. Day 5 was worse, in that I couldn't gather the courage to have a single drop of anything....lemonade, tea, smooth move, or water and obviously not the SWF. Day 6 was better and I was able to get 4 servings of the lemonade down (supposed to have 6) and ditto for day 7. My voice has strengthened, the tummy queasiness is gone but my diaphragm continues to spasm. This morning is day 8 and I'm really close to finishing the 10 day cleanse and hate to give-up now. My diaphragm is sore as heck but not cramping like it was on day 4 & 5. Any suggestions? 1) do I even attempt the SWF again? 2) what the heck I do about my sore diaphragm? & 3) should I even continue this cleanse? I've lost 10 pounds but I'm not really over weight. I just really wanted to rest the digestive system and cleanse my colon. I grow 100% of my own food and I'm pretty darned healthy but I had surgery (general anesthesia) and wanted flush any toxins out of my system. Any suggestions?

Melissa 5 years ago

HI! I will be starting the Master Cleanse for the first time tomorrow. I have been reading lots of different articles, blogs, etc. through the internet, but each one seems to have at least one small difference from the others. So when I came upon this blog it seemed like a good idea to ask someone who can give me some personal advice back!

I am planning on drinking an herbal laxative tea tonight, and then doing the salt water flush when I wake up in the morning.

Then, do you suggest a salt water flush every morning? Or is there any reason to drink laxative teas instead? I have yet to try the salt water flush and must be underestimating how difficult it is! In the journals I have read, it seemed like they drank the teas because of their schedule, and timing was different than it was with the salt water flush. Without time restrictions, what your suggestion?

Sage- I can honestly say in the numerous comments I have received I have not seen any as drastic as yours. Personally I would finish out the cleanse and for-go the flush if you had that violent of a reaction. The only reason I can come up with is the surgery and toxins from it. Personally I am about to do the whole cleanse again to cleanse from my own surgery (I had a golf ball size mass removed from my right temporal lobe, brain, 8 months ago). I have JUST been cleared to do the cleanse again, but had to wait until I was far enough post surgery/meds that I had to take due to the surgery. I will be posting a whole new series as I redo the cleanse after the drastic changes that occured in my life. Hopefully yours was not what I have to look forward to, though if I do, while I wrote above what I think I would do on first reading, my second thought is that I would do whatever I could to finish out since I clearly have more toxins than "regular."

Melissa- While I would love to say that you could do the tea instead of the SWF, that is just not my style as it is definately not the truth. The tea is to help loosen MORE from the lining of the intestines but the flush is an absolute must in order to literally push it all through. While the taste is horrible the flushes main purpose is to do exactly as it's name says, the weight of the water when mixed with the salt weighs more than the contents of the body so it literally pushes right through picking up things along the way (and yes it will pick things up the WHOLE time).

Personally I have 2 different views but have a VERY flexible time schedule so I can mix it up as I feel needed. I like to get the flush out of the way first thing in the AM so I don't think about it through the whole day, but if you have to be somewhere within 2 hours I would put it off. While it does go through VERY quickly, there is always a little left over shall we say that seems to linger and since it is liquid you MUST be able to get to a bathroom quickly. Sorry to be a little crude there, but keep in mind that you will not be eating solid food the whole time so there is not a lot solid there, and if you are reading this you are not looking for me to candy coat it.

Keep us posted on your experience and hope that helps some!

Dear Blogging2: Wow, you've been blogging about the M.C. and the SWF for 2 years and it's a little unnerving to know that my episode is the most drastic you've received. Yikes! I have such little faith in our medical professionals, that I've not made an appointment to see a doctor about my diaphragm, but perhaps I should. This is the morning of day 9 and I was able to get 6 full servings of the lemonade down yesterday but have not done the SWF or any laxative tea (smooth move). I appreciate your encouragement to finish the fast, as my inclination is to finish as well....only 1 day left. However, I am MOST disappointed that I could not cleanse the colon as intended, as this was the #1 reason for embarking on the cleanse. I have not had a single movement since day 4 (the day of the retching incident), so I doubt that I'm obtaining the benefits of the cleanse. The whole purpose is to purify and expel and although everything going "in" is pure, nothing is being expelled other than urine (sorry to be so graphic). I'm half considering 16 oz. of water with 1 tsp. of sea salt today or tomorrow and then if things don't go well, I can simply come off the cleanse. Frankly, I feel like I'm fasting instead of cleansing and that wasn't really the purpose or my intent. I've lost 10 pounds but what I wanted to "lose" was any build-up in my colon. I wonder how much I've benefited since I was only able to complete the SWF for the first 3 days (day 4 was the incident). Thanks for your support and I'm happy to hear that you too have been cleared to begin your cleanse post op. Thanks, Sage

Sage- One other thing to keep in mind is that once we have had a reaction to anything like you did our natural response is to protect our selves which maybe what your body is doing. Similar to if you had bad Sushi it takes a while to be able to eat it again. I know that adding Ceynne to my drinks also helped to irritate the lining and release some more which may help as well. You maynot be passing anything due to the limited amount you have ingested which would make sense to me. Again I am not a medical doctor and frankly don't like medical doctors on a personal level though I fully understand their use for emergency medical care as I had to have with my surgery, but feel that anytime I would try to discuss this or any reaction to it their response would be drastically skewed.

First Time 5 years ago

Hello Blogging2 - Thank you for all of the great information!

This is my first time on the MC and I am starting my 3rd day.

My 1st question - Last evening I had the laxative tea and as a result I was up about every 2 hrs throughout the night with BM's. This is not the reaction I had the first night of the tea. Is bad sleep a typical reaction to the laxative tea? I was wondering if I should do the SWF on a morning after having 6-7 BM's from the laxative tea. (additional note: I did the Ease In process so there has not been much substance to any of the eliminations for the past few days)

2nd question: Is 16 oz of the SWF sufficient? It seems to be the point were if I have any more I know I will throw it all up, so I've always stopped at 16 oz just to keep something moving through my system. It does always find its way out and brings some good stuff with it. Would more SWF just bring more toxins out? Am I ok with the 16 oz if that's all I can handle - My goal is to get to 20 oz.?

Thank you for any suggestions!

Melissa 5 years ago

I'm now on day 3! I'm actually drinking my salt water right now and I have to say its amazing how much easier it gets the second day. The first day it took me nearly an hour to drink it and I couldn't finish it. I only drank about 3/4. The second day, however, I was able to finish it in about 20 minutes.

Thanks for your help!

And my advice is to simply suffer through it the first day, knowing it gets easier as you go.

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 5 years ago from Florida Author

First- Yes, it is very common the second night to be up a few more times needing to use the restroom. By that time your body is adjusting to not having solid food so things are moving through that were stuck and now have nothing blocking their way :)

Melissa- Congrats and I definately agree with your advice! It does get easier!

Sage 5 years ago

Dear Blogger2: Ditto with me regarding the medical community and advice. You're preaching to the choir on that one and I whole-heartedly agree with you. Well, I'm happy to report that I'm feeling MUCH better and I'm actually still on the cleanse. I was able to get 16 oz. of warm water mixed with 1 tsp. of salt down using the straw trick in combination with the Listerine trick. However, I must admit that I got the 16 oz. down by drinking two separate cups with a rather long span in between. Oh well, I got it down and had "movement". Today is day 11 and although I'm holding at a 10 pound weight loss, I feel that the cleanse is still working because I feel MUCH better. I've decided to let the cleanse run a couple more days, maybe a week. I was considering purchasing Dr. Natura's Colinix or similar product to help with the cleanse since I'm such a wimp when it comes to the SWF (only managed the SWF the first 3 days and only 50% on day 9 then couldn't hack it at all yesterday). Did you ever have anyone feeling so puny that they weren't even able to drink the 6 minimum servings of lemonade? I actually really like the lemonade and add more cayenne than even called for (helps with loosening mater from colon walls)? I think I'm finally feeling good enough today to actually have an appetite get 6 full servings. Wish me luck! You feedback on purchasing the colonic would be helpful. Thank you so much for your support. Sage

Sage- Thank you for your kind words, and please keep in mind that I am NOT a medical doctor only going on what I have been told and personal experience here, but in answer to your questions: 1. Yes it is quite common for people to not want all of the mixture, but keep in mind it is important to ensure you are getting enough calories to be safe.

2. I would not do an additional colonic that soon after the cleanse. The cleanse is all encompassing, and there is such thing as going overboard :)

Letty 5 years ago

Soooo...Day 3 and I discovered I was only using 1 tsp of salt instead of 2... it explains so much. BUMMER.

Anyway, to get down the SWF, I brush my teeth first. I still have the minty taste when I down the mixture. Once I finish I put a very small amount of toothpaste on my tongue and rub it against the roof of my mouth...seems to work Wonders. Lastly, I drink the SWF in the mirror and "cheer" myself on, in a sense. I try to down the whole 32 oz in 2 takes; one if I'm lucky.

Don't know if someone mentioned the same things I did (didn't read every post as there are like 5 billion on here), but I hope this proves useful info for someone.

Happy Cleansing!

addey 5 years ago

Hello Blogger2,

I have been reading about the cleanse for 3 days now, and would like to begin over the weekend. Where is the best place to buy? I see a host of sites trying to sell the package including amazon. what do you think?

I live in the Philadelphia area. Thanks.

Sage 5 years ago

Blogger2: I'm still "going strong" on day 13. Yep, I know you're not a doctor. I agree that I should make sure I'm getting at least 6 servings of the lemonade per day (usually I only manage to get 4 servings in per day and sometimes only 2.....none the day of and day after the diaphragm episode). Okay, I'll try the SWF again today since I had a weird movement this morning. It amazed me that I actually had such a weird "movement" given that I have not eaten anything for 13 days. Any experience on this? Thanks, Sage

Letty 5 years ago

Addey,

You don't have to buy "packages" online. I would imagine they are expensive, especially when you can buy the products at your local grocery store. I don't know what grocery chains you have in Philly, but in CA I bought all I needed at a grocery store called Albertson's except for the syrup which I bought at a store called Trader Joe's. before that, I lived in Miami and bought everything at a store named Publix or even Walmart (though they don't usually carry Brade B syrup @ WM).

The lemons are reasonably priced, you can find cayenne pepper for $1, there's morton's uniodized sea salt that will run you no more than $3, and they sell purified "sam's choice" water at walmart for $3 (12- 20 oz bottles). The most costly item is the grade B maple syrup. for 32 oz I paid about $17.

So addey, save yourself some cash (a lot of cash) and don't buy the "kits"... RIP OFF. Hustle on over to stores in your area. That's my advice, at least...

Hello!

I'm on day 2 of the Master Cleanse (1st time). Day 1 went fine, I had my Salt water flush with no problems, but today was a different story. I've been reading all the tips on how to make it easier to drink it and I am definetely going to try it with a straw tomorrow. My tummy didn't take too well and it all came out just as it went in :(. I think it was because after drank the salt water, I had some regular plain water and didn't mix well ( wont do that again!. I am looking forward to day 3, I feel energized and not too hungry yet! Wish you all good luck with the Master Cleanse!

addey 5 years ago

Thanks Letty, I was able to locate a Trader Joe's. Will update all once I begin the cleanse!

Ris 5 years ago

I went to the store yesterday and bought everything I need for a master cleanse. I'm glad I found this site in my research, as it has been very helpful in what steps to follow exactly, and what to expect during the cleanse.

I have read about taking Bentonite, and or Psyllium Seeds during the cleanse. Has anyone had experience with doing this? Is it advisable?

My husband wants to do this with me, but would like to eat 'regular' meals (lower fat and less junk food) while doing the cleanse. Will the cleanse have any benefit for him at all?

I am planning on starting the cleanse (the correct way, with no meals, lol :-) ) in the next couple of days (if not today). I will update as I can on my experiences. :o) This will be my first time ever doing this, wish me luck!!

Felicity DR 5 years ago

Hi there,

I'm on day 10 & planning on going 40 - or at least until my tongue is pink and healthy again (it's white and furry now!). My question is about the SWF, which I did for 8 days straight, but couldn't face the last two days - drank more lax tea instead. I read somewhere a suggestion of putting the 2 tsp of salt into capsules and taking them with the quart of water. Would this work? If not, I'm buying straws tomorrow (the chicken broth imaging doesn't work for me). Thanks in advance for both your time and this hub.

deebee 5 years ago

hey. i have been on the cleanse for 4 days now but i have not drank any salt-water or laxative tea. Is this bad? I'm trying to get some asap but so far i havent, and im worried that the cleanse will be inafective.

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 5 years ago from Florida Author

Sorry, been away for a couple of days, I will try to catch up!

Blanca- Use the straw it will help tremendously!

Ris- Good luck on the cleanse and unfortunately I don't have good news for the hubby :) If you are going to eat ANYTHING while on the cleanse it cannot do what it is ment to do. You CANNOT eat and do the cleanse, Period. I wish you could and it would have effects but that would just not be honest and as you have prob seen in my responses I try to be as candid as possible :)

Felicity- I am not sure why this has been comming up recently but all I can say is EMPHATICALLY NO to the capsules. The salt MUST be mixed with the water PRIOR to entering the body for the weight to be accomplished to achieve the results of the flush. Otherwise all you are doing is setting yourself up for some MAJOR hypertension issues! Unfortunately in our society a pill is the "norm" and part of why we are in the situation we are in. Again, do NOT attempt to use capsules and if you do please make sure to remember that I am EMPHATICALLY agains it.

dee- if you are not eating you are getting results I would definately recommend doing the SWF at least before you finish the cleanse. If you can't, as long as you are not eating you are still getting some of the results just not fully "flushing" the system as you will when you are able to do the flush :)

Emily 5 years ago

I'm on day 1 of master cleanse for the 3rd time, but this time i am in india. So using sugar cane juice and yellow limes, and red chilli powder(which i think may be cayenne, only 100% chillis anyhow) No luck in finding the senna tea yet(I'm not in a big city) is it ok to do the salt water flush, twice once in am and once before bed? On perevious cleanses if i wasn't using teh tea i wasn't eliminating enough, sometimes only once or twice a day. Thanks

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 5 years ago from Florida Author

Emily- now that is commitment! I am not 100% on this, but will give you my thoughts. I would not do the flush 2 times daily through the whole thing, but if you feel you are backing up or not eliminating enough then do it a couple of times a day until you feel right. With the way it sounds with your location you want to be careful not to dehydrate yourself expelling too much is my thought there. Again, that is just my thoughts on it, and good luck!

Pep 5 years ago

Today is day 1 for me. Did the SWF this morning, but I simply COULD NOT get it all down! It wasn't the taste, but the volume. When I got about 1/2 of if down, my stomach was already feeling like it was going to burst from being too full. I did manage to get all but the last inch (made it in a quart canning jar) Anyone else have this experience?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 5 years ago from Florida Author

Hi Pep- it is very common, we are not used to drinking that much in one sitting on average :) The trick is to get enough down that the weight of it all can flush, and then the "extra" picks up even more. You want to shoot for the full amount every day, but living an inch in the bottom isn't too bad :) Good luck tomorrow!

Pep 5 years ago

OK, today was day 2, we (my 3 daughters and I) are still all hanging in. The SWF was much easier for me today.

A question...one of my daughters decided to separate the lemonade ingredients and take them that way, all within seconds of each other. Here's what she did:

Put the lemon juice and water in a glass with 1 T of maple syrup

Put the cayenne in a dixie cup with a small amount of water and the rest of the syrup

Chug the cayenne mix down while holding breath, and follow with the good tasting lemonade. Since this is all going to the same place (her stomach!), we figured it would work the same way, and it made it much more palatable. What do you think?

Pep 5 years ago

Another question...

I tried the above mentioned method this evening, only I mixed 1 whole lemon with a T of maple syrup (put the other in the dixie cup with my cayenne and a bit of water to chug) into my Vitamix. This made a lovely, pulpy, frothy lemonade, which I sipped after chugging my cayenne mixture. I've read that it is OK to use the entire lemon, and the results will be more drastic. Does this sound OK?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 5 years ago from Florida Author

Pep- I am really not sure why it has become more and more common for people to ask about splitting up the ingredients, not just with the mixture but also with the swf. All I can say is this:

The cleanse has been around for hundreds of years. It was designed to encompas multiple facits of digestion/ingestion and is not something that we can alter in ANY way. If you do not follow the process exactly as it should be then the results WILL be DIFFERENT. I am sorry to be so blunt, but this was not something intended to be easy, comfortable, or desirable. It was designed to CLEANSE your system. You MUST take everything in the manor it is supposed to be taken or you will NOT get the results you intend.

I applaud you for doing the cleanse, but if you want to change anything from ingestion to amounts, then frankly don't waste your time doing it. Mixing in your stomach is NOT the same as mixing the solutions together prior to ingestion.

Pep 5 years ago

Blah. I was afraid you'd say something like that. OK, here it is, day 3, and I am back to the original way. But I notice that when I juice the lemons, there is often a bit of extra lemon juice in the juicer. Rather than waste this, is it OK to add extra lemon juice to the lemonade, or to drink plain lemon water during the day in addition to the MC lemonade mix?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 5 years ago from Florida Author

You can drink as much lemon water as you want :) The syrup is to give you the calories you need.

Pep 5 years ago

Good! I'm talking about PLAIN lemon water, without the cayenne, just when I have extra lemon juice in the juicer.

Also, my 23 year old daughter woke up at 4 AM to go to the bathroom and fainted and couldn't stop shaking. Sounded like a low blood sugar attack to me, so I made her another lemonade, and she was fine. But has anyone else had that experience?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 5 years ago from Florida Author

Make sure she is getting enough of the syurp in the mixtures. The cayenne is just an irritant for the lining of the intestines, it is not a "needed" part of the cleanse, just helps get more off. The syrup and the lemon's are what is needed, and the syrup is your ONLY form of calories through this, so while you don't want to go overboard or you can actually gain weight on the cleasne, you also need to make sure you are getting enough to get the calories you need.

jenn 5 years ago

day 2.. Im definitely not hungry, but the craving kills especially because my family is known for their cooking. But i quite enjoy the lemonade mix. I put a lot of cayenne pepper into mine because i like the taste, but last night i notice that i could see the veins on the palms of my hands. Is that bad? and should i stop putting in as much cayenne?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 5 years ago from Florida Author

Jenn- the cayenne is not making the veins show it is the body's way of starting the detox process. Our skin is our largest organ, and our body uses it to release toxins (or take them in ie skin creams/shampoo/etc). What you are seeing is simply the blood vessels getting closer to the skin to release what is in them :) Your circulation should be getting better too!

Dorothy 5 years ago

okay so im on day 6. yay! the first two days i lost 4 pounds total.. but from day 3-6 i havent lost any weight at all (i might have gained a pound), what am i doing wrong?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 5 years ago from Florida Author

Dorothy- It is not about losing weight, it is cleaning out your system :) If you are drinking too much of the mixture and not exercising enough you will gain weight as many stop exercise because of the cleanse while you are still getting at least 2k calories a day this is not a good thing.

Renee 5 years ago

I apologize ahead of time if someone already posted this but I didn't have time to read every post. Im doing the cleanse and have literally thrown up from the SWF in the past. This time I squeezed some lemon juice in the SW and I'm taking it fine. I can't imagine that it would be a problem. Any opinions?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 5 years ago from Florida Author

Renee- As long as you don't overdilute it with lemon I would think you would be OK, or maybe even use the regular lemon water as a chaser of sorts :) Good luck!

Lauren 5 years ago

Firstly this is an amazing site with so much helpful stuff (: I'm on day 3 now and doing really well on it, but I've just realised I've been taking the SWF wrong, I've been using 2 tablespoons not teaspoons. Ive been having movements but I'm unsure if my body's going to have been absorbing a lot of the salt that I've been basically overdosing on (: I'm sure I'll be okay, but if anyone has any ideas if I'm doomed or not that would be great (: also, any ideas about retailers of good laxative tea or maple syrup in the uk? Stuff seems to be pretty hard to come by..

Thanks!!

RB 5 years ago

I have found that organic lemon juice does not do anything to alter the effectiveness of SWF, and it makes it much more palatable. 20 mL per 500 mL of fluid works....

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 5 years ago from Florida Author

RB- I approve all comments in the effort for people to see all options. I cannot attest to what you say or don't. Personally I prefer to just coke it down as is because I know the final out come is worth it, but understand some just can't :)

Doing the flush every day is how I would do it. let us know how it goes!

stillme 5 years ago

Well I tried to do the swf, I have been wanted to start the master cleanse for several months. I was ready to go, did the smooth move the night before, and purchased lemons, pepper, and syrup~ of course grade B. I even used a straw with the swf. Anyway, I couldn't keep it down. And even what I did get down, it did nothing for me. I followed the directions to a "T" too. My husband thought I was going to faint, he was all freaked out. Asked me what the heck I drank. It was the proper salt and everything.. Anyway, I didn't make it past the salt to begin the master cleanse on that day. SOOO.. Last night I tried again~ Did the tea, woke up, prepared the swf, tried to drink it.. NO WAY.. it was like dajavu or something. I thought for sure I was going to be sick at the mere taste of it hitting my toungue. I know I need to get over this, because I really want to follow through with it. I have done worse things in my adult life, and I keep telling myself everytime I attempt to take a drink. Today I am going to just go onto the lemon drink, do the smooth move tonight, and try again tomorrow morning. I will get through this~ I hope anyway. I really want to suceed!

Maila  5 years ago

Hi all! I am starting the Master Cleanse tomorrow morning. I am quite excited, but the salt water flush definitely scares me. I will surely try it, but if I cannot handle it..is it possible to just not do the salt water flush?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 5 years ago from Florida Author

still- it is by far the worst part of the cleanse. It is VERY helpful in cleaning the lining though. I have never heard of it not "working" for someone IF they kept it down... Now if it comes back up so to say, what is left will not be heavy enough. Good luck and keep us posted!

Maila- If you do it without the flush it will still have results, just not as powerful and not as quick, but yes you will get results :)

mickey 5 years ago

hi... its me again... i wrote here 3 weeks ago.... and i just want to give you an update with my master cleanse... I did it.. Yehey... I did 30 days of the cleanse and guess how many lbs I've lost .. 24 lbs .. Yes 24 lbs in 30 days... I did the smooth move tea for 28 days.. missed 2 days because i went home very late those days and too late to drink tea and the salt water flush for 27 days... i missed 3 days.... It is true the salt water flush is the most difficult in the whole process.. I was able to finish the whole liter in the first 7 days... but as days continue.. i drunk lesser and lesser each day until just finishing half of it on the last day.... My friends really saw the difference and wants to try it... but just thinking that they will not solid food for days.. it discourages them... But im still convincing them to do it for 10 days... Anyway.. Im vey proud of myself.. hehehe... it was a struggle for the first days but when you see the results after.. it's worth it... Just want to thank you blogging.. your blog really motivated me to start and finished for 30 days.. When i have question or doubts i always read your blogs to keep me going.. Thank you again and more power!!! I really feel great..

I need to do this to fit in my prom dress in about 3 weeks but im worried about how much it will cost to do this for 10 full days and i work and go to school so how would i go about doing this? do i just carry around a jug and drink when im thirsty ?

Jamie 5 years ago

Blogging2, in your opinion, could we continue to use a bit of the Smooth Move on a daily basis after the cleanse, to keep things moving? I have a problem with constipation the rest of the time! =\ Had the problem for so long, after this cleanse and the Smooth Move, it's everyday. But, only using a bit of it, not the whole dose!

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 5 years ago from Florida Author

Alexis- Tod do this with work and school, you are exactly right, you want to mix at the begining of the day and drink throughout, you will not really get hungry :) Make sure to do the flush at night if I were you, that way you are not trying to sit in class or it will get messy!

Jamie- In my opinion you can definately continue the smooth move. It is a natural laxitive, I know quite a few people who drink a glass a day (it is no different than Coffee except it is better for you). As with any laxitive you don't want to overdo it! But it sounds like you are already on top of that :)

Jamie 5 years ago

Thank you Blogging2 for your reply. I have read how senna has been good for helping with constipation and then how you're not supposed to take it long. BUT, I have several people taking Smooth Move everyday. Now when I did it, I steeped it about 5 minutes and drank about 1/3 of a cup daily. It works most everytime but sometimes not til the next day. Anyway, I'm glad to hear that others are using it and doing just fine. How long has everyone been using it? Do you continue to use it too now that the main cleanse is over?

Thanks for your info!

Sincerely, Jamie

I HAVEN'T STARTED THE MASTER CLEANSE YET. I AM STILL GETTING ALL THE INGREDIENTS AND MAKING SURE I HAVE ENOUGH. I HAD A QUESTION ABOUT THE SWF. I HAVE BEEN DRINKING SMOOTH MOVE TEA EVERY NIGHT WHICH KEEPS MY STOMACH HURTING. IS IT OKAY TO DRINK THE TEA EVERY NIGHT? ALSO, IS IT OKAY TO DO A SWF WITHOUT DOING THE MASTER CLEANSE?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 5 years ago from Florida Author

Jamie- the people I know who have been doing it have been doing it for years. Again everything is moderation and knowing your body :) In reality I have been slack the past year personally due to having brain surgery, but have just been cleared to do the cleanse again and get back on track! I like to be honest in all that I write :)

Mystury- Please read what Jamie and I discussed right above, and notice the moderation, if you take ANY laxative continuously it will have effects but if you are going to do it anyway natural is definately a better option than others! and Yes you can do the SWF wiout the cleanse, I have many friends who do and I have myself esp if I have eaten something that I need to clear out of my system FAST!

MYSTURY 5 years ago

THANKS FOR ANSWERING THE QUESTION ABOUT THE SALT WATER FLUSH. I HAVE ANOTHER QUESTION AS WELL. WHAT ARE THE EXACT INGREDIENTS TO THE MASTER CLEANSE? I JUST WANTED TO BE SURE BECAUSE I HAVE SEEN SOME MC DIRECTIONS WITH DIFFERENT INGREDIENTS. ALSO, THE EXACT INGREDIENTS TO THE SALT WATER FLUSH. THANK YOU AGAIN FOR ALL THE INFORMATION AND SUPPORT THAT YOU GIVE.

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 5 years ago from Florida Author

Mystury- The salt water flush recipe is 32oz of water with 2 teaspoons of uniodized sea salt. and the Master cleanse is FILTERED water, fresh squeezed lemons (you MUST squeeze them yourself or you are wasting your time), and Grade B Maple Syrup. I have the exact meausrements in another my hubs if you look it up (I don't want to give you bad info and as many times as I have done it I don't do it "exact" myself anymore as I am quite small and if I drank as much as it calls for I actually gain weight and feel sluggish. You have to make sure to drink enough to get the nutrients you need, but not too much or you are taking in too much sugar.) Make sure it is GRADE B Maple Syrup though. It will say Grade B on the bottle or it is not the correct kind. Grade A or "regular" syrup is processed differently and has more sugar than Grade B. Hope this helps!

Jamie 5 years ago

Thank you again Blogging2 for your reply. I agree, moderation is the key and that's what I always try to do. And I am with Smooth Move as well. People doing the cleanse need to pay attention to that too, as it's not necessary to take the full dose, all the time. I mean, I've read people's posts saying their stomach hurts and that's why. Too much for their system at once. ;)

Thanks again for your info!

Sincerely, Jamie

Ddmac9 5 years ago

Hi I have just started the master cleanse and right now I am on my 2nd day. The first day wasn't so bad I made it through. I have a few question.

1.for the salt water cleanse I use 2 liters of water and the 2 teaspoons of sea salt is that correct(I see so many different measurements). This 2L is hard to complete so I drink about 3/4 glasses out of it and have to stop.

2.Is it true you have to down the salt water cleanse in a matter of 5 minutes?

Last but not least

3.I see everyone says the salt water cleanse is suppose to make you go to the bathroom, I did before I drunk it just because my body is always breaking down so quick but I did not go after I drunk it. Is this bad? Do I need to add more salt? Less water? Will this prevent me from loosing any weight during this process?

Jamie- No problem and good luck!

Dd- Ok lets take this one at a time :) 1. You want to drink the FULL 32oz of water (it sucks I know but it is the weight of the water that actually makes you go to the bathroom, not the water, becomming urine).

2. The faster you drink the flush the better and yes you have to down it all quickly. To understand why please look above as well, but the short version is this: The salt bonds with the water forming a heavier water. When you are "going to the bathroom" the water with the extra weight acts as a solid pushing through the intestines and flushing them out with it.

I think that answers number 3 as well, but if not please just let me know!

For the flush:

Would it work to drink 1 cup of water with all of the salt and follow with the remaining water? Seems like it might be easier to get it down this way.

blogging2 5 years ago from Florida Author

Laura- Again, unfortunately there is one and ONLY one way to do the salt water flush correctly. You MUST mix the salt with the 32 oz. of water, PRIOR to ingesting it. Pills, putting more salt in one part then following, chasing with extra water, etc will NOT work and is VERY VERY VERY dangerous. The salt adds weight to the water which is how it "flushes" through the system. If you alter this in ANY way you are just ingesting a lot of salt which is NOT good. Hope this helps.

Hey everyone!! I am so thankful I came across this site yesterday. I have been putting off the cleanse for quite a few weeks now, unsure if I was able to pull it off. After reading all of these comments/tips/helpful advice, it has made me want to move forward with the cleanse. Just letting the Smooth Move tea steep, anxious & nervous about what is ahead of me, but I'm almost 100% positive I can do the 14 days. Blogger2, have you tried the full 30-40 days? Once you pass the 14, does anyone out there find it much easier to breeze through?

mjcrh328 5 years ago

Thank you for this post. I recently found this diet online and have been researching it since. I am hoping to start the cleanse within the next 2 days and look forward to losing the weight.

As a tip on the SWF, have you tried to drink it warm? I know that when I have a sore throat and have to gargle salt water, the warmer it was, the better it tasted.

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 5 years ago from Florida Author

Asha- After you do anything for more than 14 days it becomes a habit so it becomes easier (depending on your physical activity). I have never gone that long personally, but have friends who do it frequently. Good luck!

mjc- Good luck, and I have not tried it warm, to me it is just close your eyes and chug lol. Let us know how it works, we always welcome tips as long as you are not altering the mixture or ingredients :)

Julieinoz 5 years ago

Thank you blogging2 for this very informative site. I initially searched for the 'salt water flush' as I was investigating natural ways to overcome a bout of constipation (and now know Senna tea is the way to go).

However, having read every post on here I am now motivated to redo the Master Cleanse CORRECTLY (we refer to it as the Lemon Detox Diet in Australia). Sadly it is promoted as a ‘weight loss’ cleanse and I approached it like a low calorie weight loss effort, but not until I read your comments ABOVE did I fully 'get it'. I have done the cleanse 1 1/2 times :-) and i think I have made nearly every mistake listed here as I too struggle to palate the drink and SWF.

Just clarifying my understanding:

• All ingredients – Fresh Lemon Juice (Squeezed/Juiced not blended), Cayenne Pepper and Grade B Syrup(Only B Grade) MUST be MIXED TOGETHER before drinking.

• The SWF ratio is 2 tsp (two teaspoons UNIODISED SEA SALT) to 32 Ounces (1 Litre) of purified Water and MUST be MIXED TOGETHER before drinking. To be drunk as fast as you can. Best tips are to drink with a straw and warm water if struggling.

• The quantity of Syrup is necessary for our Daily Intake of Calories

• The Lemon component releases the toxins and anything else that shouldn’t be in our Intestines (?)

• The Cayenne Pepper is an irritant that helps loosens it from our intestinal walls

• The night time Smooth Move Tea loosens any stools, etc in our intestines for ease in elimination

• And the DAILY Salt Water Flush, flushes it all out so we can repeat the process and eliminate even more toxins. Best to do first thing in the morning, that is, if you have time (up to hours) to stay near a loo!

So the objective is to remove as many toxins and sludge from our intestines METHODICALLY , day by day whilst keeping up healthy Calorie intake. Where by our bodies are left healthier without the toxins and working efficiently. Have I missed anything?

Wow, this site was a great find. I hope you are over your own hurdles and are happy and healthy. Great contribution, thanks again.

Love this site! Quite a lot of info! I'm at the end of day one and just have a few questions. This morning I tried the SWF, but I did it incorrectly and ultimately jut threw up. I did the correct dosage again around 6pm. I could only get about 3/4 done. Which you say is okay. I have also had 3 cups of walmart Cenna tea. It's called Dieters tea;cleanse. They say it is comparable to Smooth Move. This has all been over 4 hours ago, and I don't even feel a rumble in my belly. I've been on a very strict low calorie diet for the last three weeks. Could that be the issue? Could there just be nothin' in there? I want to feel healthy like everyone says they do, but right now I feel pretty crummy and bloated. Not to mention cravings.

esi89 5 years ago

hiya starting my cleanse tomorow, was going to start today but realised i'd got the wrong marple syrup.is it okay to do the SWF today.

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 5 years ago from Florida Author

Katie- I used probiotics that i got at our Chiropractor's. I will check on the type when I go in again, but most will carry them in the form you want.

esi- You can do the flush anytime, even if you are not on the cleanse just to clear out a little if needed.

Megan 5 years ago

Found your comments interesting. Tried the cleanse for the first time but was starving by the end of the second night, after having to cook for my family. Had something small to eat. So I'm busted. Does this mean, I have to stop or can I pick up again?

Elaine 5 years ago

I am just doing the flush and tried it this morning with no effect what so ever....so have just done it again but doubled the amount of salt (4 teaspoons) to see if this has any effect this time. I suffer from constipation and think this might be why the first 1 didn't work!!!! Really hope the 2nd 1 does as it was soooooo hard to drink the lot without bringing it back up :0(

Elaine 5 years ago

Ok 2 hours since the 2nd flush today and still nothing apart from very smelly wind...and trying not to throw the lot back up!!!! Mmm not sure I will be trying this again

Elaine 5 years ago

Well thank goodness for that....it may of taken 2 lots of swf and the 2nd being double the amount of salt...but after 3 hours I have been to the loo 4 times in the last 20 mins!!!!! So glad it has finally worked and the 2 letres are now out!!!! Happy days!!!!

kay 5 years ago

Hi! Should the SWF be done for the duration of the cleanse (all 10 days)? Also, would drinking cold lemonade have any effect?

Chris 5 years ago

I have been on the cleanse for a few days now. When I do the SWF, I make a highly concentrated solution with salt and water. Like 6oz of water with the 2 tsp of salt. Once I get that down, I down another 26oz of water and have it mix in my stomach. It does he same job, but the salty mixture is down the hatch in a few seconds vs a minute

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 5 years ago from Florida Author

Megan- You can start up again any time, it is a flush/cleanse not something to beat yourself up about! It obviously put toxins back in, but we all have moments of weakness :)

Elaine- Whoo hoo happy days!

Kay- Yes, it is a daily thing with the cleanse, it helps to flush out the intestines with what comes off with the cayanne in the mix.

Chris- I HIGHLY recommend NOT doing this. I have made notes about this often above, and cannot state enough how much research has gone into the cleanse, it was not meant to be easy or everyone would do it. Shortcutting that way is HIGHLY dangerous as the salt and water do NOT mix correctly in the stomach, the salt MUST be mixed into the water PRIOR to ingestion for it to not have potential negative effects. I allow all comments as long as they are not offensive, and it seems someone writes what you did about every 6 months or so (there are lots of notes on this page lol) and I like to reitterate wher it is not lost in the mix. The SWF MUST be done the way it is designed, ANY variations and it could have very negative effects.

Thank you everyone for reading!

How many days do you do SWF?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 5 years ago from Florida Author

As many days as you do the cleanse, or just as many days as you feel like it. I have friends who just do the flush a few days after the holidays, but don't do the full cleanse, or if they feel like something they ate is not agreeing with them etc.

deawal 4 years ago

Just wondering what your thoughts are on using digestible epsom salt for the cleanse. That is what I have used in the past, but I see that only sea salt is mentioned here.

keecha 4 years ago

I was using breath Mint throughout the day...Would sugar free mints be better..

Linda 4 years ago

My husband and I are starting the ultimate cleanse tomorrow morning. we are quite excited, but I tried that salt water drink and it's awful... but I think I'm using the wrong salt. I'm using premier pink salt... but not sure it's uniodized or not, doesn't say. So tomorrow I'll go find the right kind of salt and hopefully will go down a bit better. Stay tuned!

Rocky 4 years ago

I've completed the Master Cleanse twice. The first time I went for 13 days and this time 20. Godwilling, I intend to increase the duration each time until I can do 40 days two or three times a year. But guess what? I STILL can't get that saltwater down! I made it maybe two days. Instead I take the laxative tea in the morning and again at night. Not as effective, I know, but I simply COULD NOT and CANNOT get that stuff down. Maybe I'll try it again on my next flush. Good Luck all!

Please Helppp Mikey 4 years ago

Is it OK to make one cup of water/2 tsp salt...then drink a seperate quart of warm water??...I cant get the drink down without gagging...please help...

Mikey 4 years ago

OK..I JUST finished doing the salt water flush for the first time..as soon as I woke up..I heated a quart of distilled water and added 2 level teaspoons of sea salt..

I managed to drink it as fast as I could..IT IS NASTY TASTING lol..I then layed down on my righth side.

Around 15 min later..I started to feel my stomache kinda cramping up and getting "full"...then around 15-20 min later,I went to use the bathroom..it DEFINITLY works good..I feel lighter and better..I lost 2-3 pounds in a couple hours lol..will do again tomorrow.

vanessa 4 years ago

Congrats to all of you who have done the 10 days.Well done. I began the detox yesterday for no other reason than to cleanse. I am very over weight and after the holiday period I decided to stop my bad eating habits. I began juicing and on the 3rd day I was shocked to have foud tape worm in my stool. It affected me and since then I have not eaten meat and never will again. It really affected me. I can only imagine the celery and ginger worked the worms out. I still had to deworm myself and my entire family. So thumbs up for me as this is day 2 and I seem to be ok with the detox barring the salt wash so I put plenty of lemon in the warm water and I must say its so very much nicer to drink. Hope the lemon with the salt wont affect the results. Happying detoxing all.

Lindy 4 years ago

I started the cleanse today and just finished my very first salt water flush. OMG!!!!! I FEEL MISERABLE!!!! that was worst. Do I have to do it everyday?

Trista 4 years ago

So everyone is saying the worst part of the cleanse is the SWF....But honestly I can handle that. The lemon juice/syrup/cayenne pepper mixture makes me want to gag and 60oz is alot to have to drink of something that horrible in a day...but everyone says it tastes ok? Am I missing something? I heard there are cayenne pepper tabs, would that be a possibility? I just cant get over the kick of this drink!

Dawn 4 years ago

Hi, I just completed my 3rd day and I'm good just bad head ache's. I haven't really had a bowel movement since the first day though. It's just liquid & I was expecting lost of build up to be coming out. Also, everyone I've talked to said by the 3rd day they had already lost 10 lbs. and I've only lost 1 lb. I'm not cheating, but I don't understand why I'm not losing more weight. Can someone explain this please? Thanks!

Dana 4 years ago

Hi,

I accidentally used iodized salt the last 2 days. It worked as a laxative but is it bad for my body to use iodized salt?

Emily 4 years ago

Hey, i was wondering if i could drink the Tea at night than right after follow up with the SWF? and just drink the lemonade during the day. I have school in the mornings till about 3:30 so I'm alittle afraid of what would happen at school .. lol. Also im 5'5 and weigh 180. I would like to lose 40-50 pounds, do you think that possiable? Also how long can you do this cleanse for?

M (T&T) 4 years ago

Hi

I tried the cleanse, today is day ten for me I didnt think I could make 10days but I did. it wasnt bad and the result in even 10 days is great. I have been battling low blood sugar since I was a child and thought this would have been an issue. I have gone 10 days with out food only master cleanse I never once felt weak or ill and my blood sugar was stable. Although I appreciated the cleanse and I am feeling the difference I greatly appreciate the weightloss that I achieved with it I used 6 glasses perday and followed all instructions. will definetly do it 3-4 times a year. thank you master cleanse.

Nicci Thomas 4 years ago

Today is my first day using the Master Cleanse. I woke up this morning to do the salt water flush and took 2 gulps and couldnt finish the rest. Is there any other options I could try? How important is the flush? If I dont do it will that affect my results? I just cant seem to get it down! HELP!

Rachel 4 years ago

@Emily: You can drink the tea at anytime. It's okay if you overlap it with the salt water. I would try to wait until you get home from work. Usually the tea works in a few minutes and can last for a few hours, so you may need to take a few trips to the bathroom throught the day. You can do this cleanse for about 32 days max. Any more and it becomes dangerous.

@Nicci: Unfortunately with this specific cleanse you must do the SWF. You don't HAVE to do it, but you can't do anything else as a replacement for it. If you choose not do it, it just won't be a complete cleanse.

lissa777 4 years ago

so im on my 5th day of the master cleanse an i broke:[ i ate 4 peanutbutter crackers an here is the worse part i made myself throwup afterwards . i cant believe i let myself get to that point . i want to continue the cleanse an add on more days now that i cheated (reason why i went to the point of making myself throw up) can i still do my salt water flush. please no harsh comments i no i have mess up just want to know if ican still do my flush tonight . i do my flush at night because i have more time .

nila99 4 years ago

Hi Rachel,

Today is my 6th day of master cleanse, but I only lost 1 kg. I did everything right! I feel frustrated and want to quit. Is it possible that master cleanse doesn't work for certain people? My boyfriend lost 3 kg already as per today! I really feel demotivated!!! HELP!

jenni.gtrz 4 years ago

im doing the master cleanse but i dont know if im doing it right. i tried to drink the swf but i threw up i need help how can i make the lemonade for a 16oz bottle? and how many times do i have to drink can i cheat just by taking a bite just a tiny bite??

Linda 4 years ago

Can i eat the salt with a lemon and chase it with water? Instead of mixing the water and salt?

Melody 4 years ago

You can use empty gelatin capsules you can buy from a health food store and put your salt in those....makes the swf a breeze! :)

Rachel 4 years ago

@Nila: I'm sorry it took me so long to respond, I have been very busy with work lately. Everyone's body is different so you losing 1kg and your bf losing 3kg might be completely normal depending on your bodies. If you aren't losing any weight after ten days then I would venture it safe to assume something is not right. You may even want to get checked out by your doctor. After 10 days your body should recognize that it is being starved and at the very least you should be losing muscle mass, which would show definite weight loss. If you are drinking a lot of liquid and not going to the bathroom that could be why it would seem that you are not losing anything, but if you are not using the bathroom, it could be a sign that something is not right. If this problem persists go to the doc. Good luck to you and your boyfriend!! :))

@Jenni: Any bite is cheating. This is a strict fast. Follow it to the "t" for accurate results. Good luck to you!! :))

Nila- I am not sure where this came into play for some but let me be VERY clear. The Cleanse is NOT a weight loss exercise. It is to recalibrate your body and remove toxins. Depending on your weight/size you could easily gain weight doing the cleanse as the calorie intake can be more than what you were eating before.

blogging2 profile image

jenni- swf is just will power if you have that much trouble. to put it in a bottle make a pitcher and then pour what you need into your containers, and you can not cheat at all or there is no point :)

Rachel- The body is NOT being starved when doing the cleanse correctly. If you are obease than the body maybe used to more calories, but for someone like myself I don't lose weight as my calorie intake (the reason for the maple syrup) is the same as normal actually a little more sugar than normal)

I want to start this evening with my smooth move tea, do I then begin the lemonade drink all day for the next 3 days ( while still drinking smooth move at night) and then on the 3rd to the salt water flush? Or Should I do the SWF tonight to kick start the cleanse? I think that is what I am most confused about, when to actually start the salt flush. And if it is before I drink the lemonade can I do it tonight even though I have eaten earlier in the day?

You can do the flush whenever. I have friends who just do it every now and then just to clean out. Don't over do it, but don't stress too much about the time line, just make sure you are near a bathroom!

I did my first swf today it was not as bad as I thought in my mind. My friend gave me the idea after to bite on a lemon slice like after a shot just dont eat it. Biting down killed the taste instantly. Hope this helps some

BTW ----- I meant no disrespect in my comment above at all -----after reading it, I noticed that (depending on the reader's tone) it may be interpreted as a little aggressive and belittling due to the all capital letters. I assure you that was NOT my intention when I wrote and posted the comment. I was simply informing everyone on a method of the SWF that Ive been using for quite some time now.... I appologize if anyone was offended immediately after reading the above post BEFORE reading this one explaining myself....if anyone is still offended after reading this - then I guess thats your problem as I will only appologize once lol...

HAPPY CLEANSING!!!

van150 4 years ago

Hi I found this post recently, I have been doing the master cleanse every yr to 6months since 2006. What i normally do is, i take drink only 1 gulp of salt water flush, and a Very very very small sip of my lemonade drink to "clean" the palate and keep alternating until you have finished the salt water. Or mouthwash prior to the salt water flush to "clean " the palate. The salt flush taste horrible so any thing that can disguise the taste buds helps

Newbie 4 years ago

Im on the second day of the master cleanse and its my first time doing the swf if it normal for just the salt water to come out? The wasnt anything solid and for the most part you could see through it. I was expecting all this grossness to happen. But yeah id love some feed back

blogging2 profile image

blogging2 4 years ago from Florida Author

LOL if you are reading this then gross is part of the plan. If your system is pretty empty then it will be pretty clear aas it is just clening and flushing what is in there out. Don't t worry it will still be effective!

This is Day 3 for me and the first day I did ok on salt water flush the 1st day with no results and i took the tea at night. The second day I warmed up the water using 2 different glasses with salt mixture. Got almost done with first glass but had to throw up, at night i did smooth tea. Day three I did not use salt water flush but did the smooth tea in am, is it ok if I do tea in morn and and night? I am drinking six glasses of the lemonade with no problem. I am peeing like crazy and loose stools.

Unfortunately no, the mixing of the salt and water must occur PRIOR to ingestion for it to work :(
