Natural Colon Cleanser

Updated on October 12, 2010

The average American stores 10 to 12 pounds of fecal waste in their colon and has only 2-3 bowel movements per week. In reality, we should be having at least 3 bowel movements per day. This is a toxic environment and the cause of many diseases in people which demands a thorough cleansing on a regular basis. Through lifestyle choices and bad diet, most Americans are completely unaware that their colon is impacted.

The colon is so large that it touches, or is in the vicinity of every major organ of your body and even touches your blood vessels and nerves. This is a big organ that can affect so many areas of your health. People with large stomachs, hemorrhoids, polyps, and diseased organs are in need of a colon cleanse as these are all signs of impacted bowels. But, how can you cleanse your colon naturally and what are the foods that you can eat that would help? Can you make a colon cleanse in your own kitchen with all natural foods? In short, yes, but let's get into more detail.

A natural colon cleanser will break up hard, impacted fecal matter so that it can be removed from the body. A natural cleanser will also cause the muscles of the colon to start working on their own. A colon cleanse will draw out the toxins that are present in the colon, which will improve overall health. This is a process that can be slow and take years, depending on the amount of impaction in an individual. It is important to remain diligent and regimented, making this cleanse a part of your daily routine until you see improved health.

Herbs, such as Cascara Sagrada stimulate the muscles of the intestines to move the stool through the bowel. To detoxify, there are several other herbs like, Oregon Grape Root and Garlic which kill bacteria, viruses and fungi. Things like Bentonite Clay and activated Charcoal pull out toxic waste and can be taken orally as a supplement which will aid in the process of cleansing. These are both adsorbers, which means that they draw out toxins and impacted material.

Colon Cleanser Formula

There are many ready made formulas out on the market today, however you can make your own formulas in the comfort of your own kitchen. A quick search on the Internet will get you many, or all of the herbs you need to cleanse your colon. Be sure to check your local grocery store for them as well.

Some of the herbs that are commonly used in colon cleansing formulas are Cascara Sagrada bark, Cape Aloe Leaf, Oregon Grape Root, Ginger, Garlic, Cayenne Pepper, Barberry Bark, Fennel and Golden Seal Root. You may also take Activated Charcoal or Bentonite Clay to draw out toxins.

Herbal Bowel Cleanse:
1 part Cape Aloe Leaf
2 parts Cascara Sagrada bark
1 part Oregon Grape Root
1 part Ginger
1 part Cayenne
1 part Lobelia herb and/or seed
1 part Fennel
1 part Golden Seal Root
1 part Barberry Bark

While you are in the process of taking the herbal colon cleanse there are certain foods that you should be consuming that will aid the process. Raw fruits and vegetables such as apples, bananas, carrots, green beans, and any of the dry beans which are high in fiber are the best place to start, along with fruit and vegetable juices. The juices should be 100% juice.

Leafy vegetables like spinach, romaine and green or red leaf lettuce are other sources of fiber. Make sure to drink plenty of water, 8 glasses per day, and use whole grains like wheat, barely, bran and oats whenever possible. A great way to do this is to make your own whole grain bread and muffins. Find a bulk food source where you can purchase whole grains and grind them into flour. Another good source of fiber is flax seed which can be incorporated in your baking, in smoothies or anything you want.

Benefit of Natural Colon Cleanser

The benefit of doing a colon cleanse naturally is that the herbs will work with your body to enable it to function the way it should and nourish it. The right herbs will also heal while providing vital nutrients to your body, rather than depriving it. An example would be Cayenne's ability to stop the bleeding of lesions in the intestine. Garlic is the only thing that will kill bacteria, viruses, fungi and most parasites, a true all-in-one herb.

Natural colon cleansers, compared to laxatives as stated above, will stimulate the body into doing what it is supposed to do, causing the body to heal itself. An artificial cleanser would simply flush out the system without healing it and often causes a cycle of constipation and diarrhea. Depending on pharmaceuticals can be expensive, unnecessary and potentially harmful. Many laxatives will dull the nerves of the bowel so they no longer contract normally, which worsens constipation. This leaves you feeling just as bad and does not address the underlying causes of the problem. Using the proper herbs will heal your body from the inside out, undoing years of bad health without constipation.

In truth, if you want to actually heal your body, removing all the years of impacted fecal matter, a natural colon cleanse is the right choice. Your body has the ability to heal from within, given the right tools and will cause healing all over once your colon is free from debris. A clean colon will allow the other organs to get rid of accumulated toxins. And your bowels will begin to move on a regular basis, rather than 2-3 times per week. You are not only dealing with the symptom, but are fixing the underlying problem and your body will function in the way that it is supposed to. Artificial pharmaceuticals will not allow this as they are designed to mask the problem and treat the symptom. You don't need to spend a fortune on medicines, you can make your own herbal, natural colon cleanse at home with this simple recipe.
