As you experience menopause, depending on how difficult the symptoms are for you, it might be a good idea to change some of your lifestyle. This can be something as simple as changing your diet and exercise routine to more complex like giving up certain things. Most Doctors suggest that menopause is the perfect time to give up smoking or excessive drinking. It might also be a good time to cut back on the caffeine or spicy foods in your diet. If these changes do not work you can always try alternative therapies.
Alternative therapies would include anything from yoga to taking supplements. Acupuncture, regular visits to a chiropractor, massage therapy, homeopathy, and botanicals have also been shown to help. When we are talking about botanicals we are discussing the wide range of plant life that has been shown to help. Anything that has phytoestrogens in it is a natural form of hormone replacement therapy. These plants have been shown to reduce hot flashes, night sweats, and some have even helped with vaginal dryness. What plants have these natural estrogens in them? Well Black Cohosh is probably among the most popular. Evening Primrose has also been shown to help, as has the Chinese herb Dong Quai. What you might also look for is anything that contains Isoflavones; these can be found in foods such as Tofu, Soymilk, and Soybeans, or pretty much any soy products.

There is a whole list of supplements that have been shown to help alleviate the symptoms associated with menopause. Everything from Fish Oil, Omega-3 fatty acids, red clover, ginseng, rice bran oil, wild yam, calcium, gotu kola, licorice root, sage, sarsaparilla, passion flower, chaste berry, gingko biloba, valerian root, to vitamin’s D, K, E, magnesium, boron, and flax seed oil have been shown to help. Choosing the right supplements
There is a long list of supplements that might help, depending on what your symptoms are. Most women do not want to try every supplement or vitamin out there though hoping for the miracle cure or miracle treatment. The good news is that you do not have to try a bunch of different supplements. A lot of these are in every day meals that you can eat. Salmon, Tuna and Mackerel are high in fish oil and omega 3-fatty acids; they also have some of the vitamins that help. Changing what you eat can go a long way toward incorporating the necessary supplements. Green leafy vegetables, fresh fruits, whole grains, are all important. The key is to stay away from processed foods. Other than that there are just a few more things you should know about these natural remedies.
What else you should know
There are seven basic questions you should ask yourself; what, how, and why. So think about what is the remedy? How does it work? Why does it work? How effective is it? How much does it cost? What are the possible side effects and or risks? Finally, what does it involve? If you can ask these questions you can gain a lot of insight into the kind of remedy that it is. Finally beware of scams, deals offered by telemarketers, certain kind of mailings, infomercials, certain kinds of ads. Also anything that makes unreasonable claims should raise a red flag. You should also be aware of the source, the ingredients, and of course don’t believe everything you are told about a particular remedy, personal testimonies are moving but they aren’t always legitimate.
