Vitamin D Decreases Pregnancy Complications!
If You're Pregnant, YOU Need Vitamin D!
If you're pregnant and want to lessen your chances of preterm birth and labor--and lessen your risk of infection--then make sure you're getting plenty of Vitamin D!
A study conducted by Carol L. Wagner, MD and vitamin D researcher Dr. Bruce Hollis, followed 494 pregnant women who were 12 - 16 weeks into their pregnancies. The women were divided into three groups and each was given 400 international units (IU), 2,000 IU, and 4,000 IU, respectively, of Vitamin D daily.
What the Study Found...
The researchers found that the women who took the largest dose of Vitamin D, 4,000 IU daily, had a risk of pregnancy complications that was half that of the women who took 400 IU daily.
It was also found that infants born to this group had the highest serum levels of Vitamin D.
Recent studies have determined that pregnant women are deficient in Vitamin D. As Dr. Wagner states, "Diet doesn't provide enough vitamin D, and we don't go in the sun as much as we need,"
The results of the study were presented at the Pediatric Academic Societies annual meeting held in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Madam Aphrodite™ Speaks
Pregnant women who took 4,000 IU of Vitamin D daily, greatly reduced their risk of preterm birth and labor, besides lessening their chance of infection--and the results were dramatic.
So what are you waiting for? A simple blood test can check your Vitamin D levels, so ask your doctor!
