No Matter What You Choose To Do This Summer, Make Sure You Are Prepared! Here are 10 Tips to Consider:

It doesn't take much to turn an awesome experience into a dangerous one. Weather can change, people can get sick or have an accident. Some people are allergic to bees while others can't swim very well. The chances of a serious problem rising increases during the summer months.

The most dangerous situations can come from overcrowding of recreation areas and lack of supervision. Add alcohol to the mix and things can get scary!

So what can you do to be prepared and ready for any type of emergency situation? Here are the basic elements of survival:

  1. Prepare...Prepare...Prepare!
  2. Know your surroundings, environment and changes in weather (as well as tides, sun strength and the potential for storm activity)
  3. Use Personal Protection Equipment to avoid problems
  4. Use a Map. GPS is not always reliable and neither are the gadgets that stream them. Having an updated map of the area you plan to visit will save you a lot of time and anxiety!
  5. Carry a First Aid Kit at all times!
  6. Ask the Locals! If you have questions about the area you are visiting, check out the local Visitor's Bureau or ask the people that live in the area. They may have some special tips for you.
  7. Have a Back-up Plan. Sometimes you plan on driving to your favorite destination only to find that it is overcrowded or closed for some reason. If you have a back-up plan you can still enjoy your day!
  8. Avoid Large Crowds. If you go to an event and you feel that it is overcrowded, leave! Overcrowding can be disastrous, especially when alcohol is being consumed. Make sure that if you are indoors you check what the limit is for occupancy. If there is a fire you don't want to deal with a mob!
  9. Know your Safety Exits. As soon as you go into a place, have a look around and assess how you can get out safely in an emergency. Imagine that you can find a safe exit if you were blindfolded.
  10. If you are Grilling Food or having an Open Fire, be sure to have access to water or a Fire Extinguisher.

Other Summer Sports and Activities

There are other Sports and Summer Activities that can only last a day or even a few hours. You still need to protect yourself while you are outside!

Some of these sports include:

  • Baseball and Softball
  • Basketball
  • Tennis
  • Golfing
  • Surfing and Wake Boarding
  • Horseshoes
  • Lawn and Yard Games

No matter What you are Planning to Do this Summer Make Sure You Take Precautions to Stay Safe.

Your Biggest Enemy is the Sun!

Always wear Sunscreen on the parts of your body that are exposed to the Sun (arms, legs, face, etc.)Wear Sunglasses and a Hat!

Stay Hydrated and wear proper clothing for your event. If you are going into the ocean make sure to have a properly fitting wet suit and life preserver/life jacket. Stay aware of your surroundings as well as the conditions around you.

Never fall asleep in the sun!

Very interesting and informative article as always. A side note my husband works for Canon and I too have a Powershot camera, so can totally agree with that recommendation. Bythe way voted up and shared.

JSMatthew--The Powershot is my favorite too and just love the quality of the pics I get from it. My husband has a Canon DSLR and loves that too. He works at Canon, so we truly are a Canon family lol!!

I wish I worked for Canon, Janine! I will eventually upgrade to a pricey DSLR but the PowerShot is great for Hubs. It's also very inexpensive compared to the "big boys"! My daughter who is going to be 15 next month may get a DSLR for her birthday (she really is a good amateur photographer and she is willing to pay half!) and I will most definitely use her camera and create a review about it! Does your husband get a discount? lol Thanks for coming back and commenting! Here's to Canon!

No problem. So glad to come back and comment. Trust me your daughter will not be sorry with the DSLR is very impressive and really does take awesome pics. I think I would also love to read this review by you. My husband does indeed get a discount and we just got a family friend a very nice and generous discount on the Mark II and she absolutey loves it. We have also gotten discounts on our own Canon cameras too! Nice perk of him working for Canon is definitely the discount.

Here's the link to my review on the Canon PowerShot: http://hubpages.com/t/2d4e26 I wish I had such a discount! I would probably have more cameras from Canon! I use a Kodak EasyShare as a backup camera but it is only 5 Megapixels compared to the Canon's 14.1 (or higher in other models). It's a nice backup with zoom, but in digital format, it does not compare to the PowerShot! Of course I always have my Cell Phone camera which takes good pictures as well, but there is nothing like shooting from behind the lens of an awesome camera! Thank you for sharing your experiences!

I will be looking at your review shortly. I too use my IPhone when I need to take a quick pic, but agree there is nothing like a good camera like the Powershot to take pictures with.

I have an Android phone: Samsung Galaxy Nexus to be exact! I am familiar with the iPhone and I like it...just not as much as the Android platform! Thanks for checking out my Canon PowerShot Review! I appreciate it! Having a great camera to shoot with is the best! All of life's memories are recorded through our lenses!
