The Reishi

I recently came across the question "Is there a natural remedy that could reduce or eliminate seizures?" by Hubber Pamela-anne. I am a person who believes that all of the body's needs were placed on the planet long before we came, so I set out to find the answer. I actually was surprised by all of the holistic treatments that were available. We too often depend on over the counter remedies to fix what ails us. But, we must remember that most medications are made from the very herbs, bark, roots, fungus...... that come from the ground.

Seizures are neurological disorders caused by abnormal electrical discharges of the brain, it can be compared to a power outage.Seizures have many causes [most are unknown] and are usually placed in two different categories: Primary generalized and Partial. Primary generalized seizures involves both sides of the brain as opposed to partial which involves one limited area.

In my attempts to find a holistic way to treat seizures of any kind I first came across the Reishi Mushroom.

Reishi Mushroom

The Reishi Mushroom or Ling Zhi has been in use for over 2000 years. Known as Ling Zhi [ spirit plant ] in China and Reishi in Japan. Studies have shown that Reishi is beneficial in treating a wide range of ailments; from insomnia, low blood pressure, seizures to AIDS. There are even claims that it may even increase longevity.Reishi is considered to be the highest ranked herb in Chinese medicine.

Of the six kinds of Reishi [red, black, white, blue yellow, purple] that have been studied extensively, only two the red and black have the most significant health benefits. Black Reishi can be more readily found in health food stores and is used in a lot of Reishi Mushroom products [Black Reishi is inferior]; but it is the Red Reishi that is highly prized and most beneficial.

For those who intend on investing in this mushroom please read the ingrediants on whatever package that your Reishi comes in. You might find that although some red reishi is a part of the mix black reishi is often used. Red Reishi should be the first ingrediant that you see listed.
