Hear my Cries of Pain~A Poem

Depression can Lead to Suicide

Source

Poem about Suicide

Your cries of pain Float

and Disintegrate like ashes

Past childhood memories

plague you in flashes

Isolated-Betrayed-Hurt

by those with like-blood

Cause emotional rivers overflow

crashing-crushing, inner flood

Praying for the will to stand tall

trying to look strong, amidst the storm

Dangerous chaotic, winds of change

mute colorful hues to invisible form

Dark Clouded thoughts Beckon

growing~Moving~ever near

White Knuckling your grip

to all you hold dear

Rushing waters too strong to fight

dam of pain breaks-overrides the light

Voices of dread growing louder

life unravels~ constant upheaval

Trying hard to spark some fight

in a tunnel of despair and evil

No energy left to move forward in hope

nightmare winning it's downward quest

Tear drenched pillow, one last breath

no more pain-eternal rest...

Tribute to a Friend and Co-Worker

This poem is dedicated to a past co-worker and friend. A compassionate, wounded healer who gave years of service to helping others in the social work/mental health field. A suicide is always tragic, but knowing it was a woman who helped so many in their time of need but could not find a way to help herself, makes it all more painful and difficult to bear. RIP my friend.

This was hauntingly full of imagery and thought provoking phrases like this one that could mean so many things whether family or perhaps a blood transfusion. . .

Isolated-Betrayed-Hurt

by those with like-blood

I was captivated by the sadness and lovely tribute to one so well loved.

Dear friends: Writer-MH-Lord-healthylife-BPop-Xstatic and Peg-

Sadly, this is a tribute to a friend and past co-worker that took her life. She struggled with depression all of her life. What is so sad is how she was in the helping profession as a Social Worker. She put so much love and energy into everyone else but could not help herself out of her struggles in life. I am so deeply saddened and pained by the news of her committing suicide. I feel like it's all a really bad dream. Thank you all for your comments. I just had to purge this poem to help me through this grief. God bless all of my hubber friends.

Peg: the line you referred to: those with like-blood, was a reference about her family of origin. They were quite cruel to her and there was a lot of dysfunction.

Dear Minnetonka Twin, I am so sorry to hear this bad, heart-breaking news about your friend and past co-worker. The natural deaths of people we know is hard to deal with and suicides almost impossible. I feel like writing a hub about all the horrible feelings provoked in us by those who commit suicide. I will always understand them, will never condemn, because I've been there on the edge. However, I know that suicide is, like murder, the most selfish act one can possibly commit. My heart goes out to you and to all those who have loved your friend.

Very beautiful tribute to a friend who found release possibly in death. We never understand the final act of taking one's life. The depth of hurt must have been so tremendous. I have had two suicides in my family. It always leaves a hurt so different from a natural death. God Bless you my friend..

Martie-your words are really comforting right now. Suicide is a hard pill to swallow. I too would never judge one that takes his/her life as I am not in there shoes but I agree it's a selfish and angry act. She left a loving husband, grown children, grandchildren and many friends. It's so sad that someone who devoted her life to help others in the Social Work field would end her own life. Thanks for coming by, it's comforting in this crazy world to have hub friends like you.

Dear Ruby-Your so right that suicide is a whole different type of grief from a natural death. There is no doubt she was suffering more than most were aware of. So sorry about your loss. As I read this gut-wrenching and heartfelt poem I wondered if the person that this was a tribute to had committed suicide, and it was sad to see from your comments that was indeed the case.

Even sadder was the fact that this caring co-worker and social worker, who had done much to help others, couldn't, as you say, overcome her own distress.

I am glad that writing this tribute poem and sharing it brought you some measure of relief during this time of grief and I think it's good to have it on HubPages where others might see it and reach out to someone they know is stuck in the throes of depression (though there are some who don't openly share their depressed feelings and it can be hard to recognize just how deeply troubled they are until it's too late.)

Sending Hub Hugs and Love Your Way.

Gail

So sad and beautiful. My heartfely sympathy and sorrow to her and her friends. Sometimes the world can become to much and nobody will understand the plight when someone takes their life. Thanks so much Tammy for coming by. Isn't it hard to watch someone go through so much pain and not know what to do. We don't ever imagine that it's so bad that they'll hurt themselves or commit suicide. We can say, "I wish I would have"...but it wont bring the person back and may not have made any difference. Suicide is a choice after all but one that brings lots of sadness, confusion and anger to loved ones left behind.

Minnetonka Twin profile image

Minnetonka Twin 4 years ago from Minnesota Author

Dear Gail-thank you so much for your love, support and hub hugs. It is a very painful thing to know how much pain my friend was in. Unfortunately, soon after this friend committed suicide, I lost another girl friend to it. I don't know if the latter friend had a history of depression like my other friend, but I heard she was in financial distress ,which can certainly cause a deep situational depression. Again, you coming by means the world and gives me a sense of comfort in this tough time.

AEvans-Life can certainly be too much at times as I can attest. I thank God I have my faith and friends to get me through the tough times. I know she's at peace and in our Lords light and out of her turmoil. I so feel for her children and grandchildren and others left behind. I agree that we cannot judge those that make this choice. We are not in their shoes and cannot imagine what there going through. Thanks so much for coming by and giving me your caring and support.

Very sad poem and the feelings of those who are left after someone takes their own life by suicide are hard to recover from. All the "what ifs" or "what could I have done to prevent it?" questions float around in one's mind for some time. Just know that your co-worker is no longer suffering in this life. Bless you and all those who will be missing and thinking about her.

Minnetonka Twin profile image

Minnetonka Twin 4 years ago from Minnesota Author

Thanks Peggy-I do get some peace knowing that she is no longer in pain and is now at peace. It hurts so much knowing how much agony she was in and I didn't know to what extent. I did know she suffered with depression but I guess I never considered that suicide would be a choice for her as a person or as a Social Worker. Goes to show, we all have a cross to bear on this earth, no matter who you are. Bless you for coming by my friend.

stessily 4 years ago

MT, This is a moving, deeply felt tribute to your friend. As with your tribute to your brother Dave, there is hope in the belief that your words reach them so that they know that they are loved. The pain which drives one to make the conscious choice to exit from life occurs at a depth which is incomprehensible, even to those who may have entertained suicidal thoughts. It seems to me, from research and experience, that suicide express a loss of self, a loss of one's center. So, whereas the act may seem selfish to those left behind, that most likely is not considered by those who take their own lives. Clearly, their perceptions are far, far different from those who contemplate suicide but do not follow through.

You have beautifully conveyed, through your words, your friend's despair. May she rest in the peace which your words bring with their nonjudgmental truths.

Minnetonka Twin profile image

Minnetonka Twin 4 years ago from Minnesota Author

Wow Stessily-thanks so much for your words of comfort and wisdom. I agree that when a person chooses to leave here, there is much going on that we cannot even fathom. You put it well that suicide shows a loss of self~otherwise, how could they even consider this action. They have gone beyond just entertaining the thought when things are difficult. I think most of us have had the thought pop in our heads when we are overwhelmed but it's just a thought to drive us forward. Thanks again for another thoughtful and heart felt comment. God Bless.

Hi alyxsky2~I actually just read your sad poem about the tragic death of your friend. We both relate to this situation. My friend was plagued with bouts of depression and hopelessness. I actually think she is in a better place and free of her misery. We all miss her so dearly though~I think it's always harder for us loved ones that are left behind. I picture her free in heaven and feeling no pain, just joy. Thanks for following me and reading my work. I'm excited to meet a new hubber friend.

alyxsky2 profile image

Yes, very true. The hardest thing to understand sometimes is that they are in a better place. But they are safe and out of harms way. For me, the hardest part is knowing he only wanted me happy and trying not to be sad. I was closer to him than my biological brothers which makes the loss harder. But at least I know, now he can watch over all of us at once instead of one at a time.

And I'm happy to follow you. You're a wonderful writer. And I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy yours!

Dearest twin I lost the first comment. Oh yikes.... Well here I go again. Your beautiful poem touched my heart. I felt despair for those that suffer from grave depression. I pray that they are led to Jesus who is comforter and healer. The devil wants to take down any and all, he is father of lies. I read recently that suicide is number 3 cause of death in ages 18 to 28. God is the answer to our help and every need. May we lead those to the Lord that are so hurting. I have lost a young friend to suicide. It is a devastating tragedy for all concerned. May Jesus comfort all that were touched by this sweet woman.

You are very brave to write such a heartfelt poem twin. Jesus come quickly. The devil is going around to devour. There is hope. Jesus We must share the good news of Jesus. Amen. My love to you and yours. Skye

Amen Skye, Amen to that. My friend and co-worker had a really hard childhood. Abuses of almost every kind which took a toll on her mental health. We worked together in the mental health field and she took such care with helping others. It was devastating to hear that she made the choice to end her life. She believed in God and Jesus but her pain took over her life. I pray she is with the Lord now and in peace. God Bless you for your comforting and inspiring words.
