Self Defense And Safety Tips For Disabled

Updated on October 22, 2011

Being disabled, physically, means that you might have limitations in most of your activities. Disability can be of any type for instance you might be deaf, mute, blind or any other which can make you permanently sit on a wheelchair.

The people who have this kind of disability cannot participate in sports which involve their physical capacity beyond limits. These limitations, sometimes, are a cause for attacks. The attackers may think that these kinds of people are weak and easy to be caught for they could not defend themselves.

If you are one of them, you have to prove that you can defend yourself no matter wherever you are or whatever you are doing. For this purpose here are some tips which can be followed:

Martial Arts

Learning martial arts could be an effective tip. It can be the first in helping you for your self defense.

It would obviously require a lot of effort and patience to learn different techniques because your disability might hinder your faster learning.

The lessons of martial arts usually focus on the pressure points or specified areas of the body which may weaken any person, if hit there.

You must have a desire and will to learn these techniques as their basic knowledge can also be helpful for you in your self defense. It’s not essential to learn martial arts, if you don’t wish to do this you have other options too.

Stun Gun

You can also carry a stun gun with you. A stun gun is a gun which delivers volts of electricity. The capacity of the volts of electricity can vary with the kind of the gun. This gun can also be a very effective tool for self defense.

The main purpose of this product is to stop the progress of a person and provide you a chance to escape from the place or at least call for help from the people around you. The person on whom the stun gun will be used will feel weakness, pain on the area which is stunned, temporary immobilization and also slight confusion.

A taser can also be a powerful source of self defense. It works just like a stun gun and put the attacker out of action. It has certain features which differentiate it from the sun gun and make it much better.

If you are on a wheel chair you don’t need to be afraid of any attacker. Use your teaser by pushing its switch and two probes will be released. This can be used from a distance as its probes are able to cover 15 feet distance easily. The red button can be followed in order to put a good aim or the light can be used to see through the areas which are low lighted.

Pepper Spray

Using a pepper spray can also work as an effective tool for you. This spray holds contents that may cause pain or irritation in eyes or difficulty in breathing, and result as a halt in the attacker’s plans, if sprayed in front of him.

It is easy to carry with you as you can keep it in your pocket and easily grab when you feel the need of using it or see a situation which can be dangerous for you. If someone is attempting to attack you, you don’t have to worry because you have your pepper spray with you.

Other Self Defense Tools

If you have not learnt martial arts and you don’t have any of the above mentioned tools you just don’t have to worry. You can also use tools which are near you and are easily approachable.

For example if you have a cane to support you because you cannot support yourself then you can use that cane to hit the attacker on the areas where he can surely get hurt leading you to win. You just have to sharpen your thoughts for the techniques and tools to be used for your self defense.

The above mentioned tools are surely very effective in the self defense of any of the disable persons. You have to increase your confidence on yourself. These tips and devices can help you in gaining confidence and can make you teach the bad guys a good lesson, despite of all your disabilities.
