Severe Nasal Congestion From Allergies

Relief From Nasal Allergies

Now that spring is here again many of us have started suffering from our usual allergy problems. It wasn't always this way, in fact spring used to be my favorite time of year. Notice that I said used to be! Most of us look forward to the warmer weather and beautiful flowers of spring, unfortunately this warmer weather and flowers can bring a lot of misery for people who suffer from allergies.

With allergies there just is no one thing that you can do to cure them. If there was I'm sure that I would have found it by now, but there are still some things that you can do to get relief from your nasal allergies. Getting relief from your allergies does take a little time and money but when you consider how much better you will feel, you really can't afford to just let the allergies go. And it really isn't as expensive as you might think,

Try An Air Purifier

Most of us have already heard all of the same old often repeated advice like keeping your windows closed and staying indoors as much as possible during peak allergy season. So I'm not really going to even go into that because you can find this information everywhere and most everyone already knows it. But something that a lot of people have found to help their allergies is an air purifier. An air purifier works by removing pollutants such as smoke, pollen, pet dander and dust from the air in your home or office.

Before purchasing an air purifier for the first time there are a few things to consider.  For instance the size of the room where you will be using it. A small bedroom will require a much smaller air purifier than a large living area, so you're going to want to check out the specs before ordering a purifier.  Also you will need to decide if you want an air purifier with a removable filter or one with a permanent filter.  I personally prefer the permanent filter just for the fact that it's less expensive and you don't have to worry about finding a replacement filter if your model is discontinued or the company goes out of business.

Antihistamines And Decongestants

Taking a antihistamine or your prescribed allergy medication along with a decongestant can also be helpful with controlling allergy symptoms. I've had really good results with taking the herb stinging nettle for my springtime allergies. One of the nice things about using the stinging nettle is that you don't experience any drowsiness after taking it. Of course it's always a good idea to talk to your physician before taking any type of natural herb or remedy. Just because something is natural doesn't mean that it's not a medication and couldn't have side-effects.

Using a neti pot to flush out your sinus cavities can be useful to help shrink inflammation and help flush out pollen and irritants from nasal cavities.

Control Dust Mites

If you have sensitivity to dust mites you might want to try a product like Hagerty  Allerg-eze.  This environmentally friendly product works great to relieve the symptoms of dust mite allergies.  I usually spray my carpet and mattress down with it approx. every 4-6 weeks and no longer have any problems at all with dust mites.

Very good advice, however, as I get older my allergy seems to have cleared up. Air purifiers used to be the order of the day in my home during this time of the year, as my children suffered with allergies too. But I live alone now and have no need for the purifiers anymore. Anyway Karen this is a very good hub.
