Sleep Walking: Float Like a Butterfly, Sleep Like a Rock
If you have a problem with sleepwalking, you're not alone. Sleepwalking can be hereditary, and can be caused by a number of factors, including experiencing too much stress and not getting enough sleep.
If you are under a lot of stress and can't get enough sleep, you may have problems sleepwalking as well, or someone in your family may have them. A memory foam bed or mattress may make sleeping more comfortable so that you get more sleep and therefore minimize or even eliminate sleepwalking problems.
Stress and sleep deprivation are known to be two major factors when it comes to sleepwalking. If you have problems with sleepwalking, try these tips to help minimize the problem.
Number one, make sure you get enough sleep. Most adults need between seven and eight hours a night, and recent studies have shown that many get less than six. That's simply not enough, and if left to go on long enough, you can have a number of problems occur, including sleepwalking.
Number two, make sleep conditions as comfortable and as conducive to sleep as possible. That means, no TV watching in the bedroom just before you go to bed or reading exciting books. Don't browse the Internet before you go to bed, either, because this, too, can stimulate you and make you less likely to sleep.
Among the things you can do to make sleep more comfortable as well is to get a new mattress if your old one is lumpy so that you toss and turn all night. Memory foam is known to be very comfortable, so much so that even if you don't get enough sleep, the sleep you do get is very deep and restorative. Therefore, you may minimize sleepwalking problems with a memory foam mattress or foam topper even if you still can't get enough sleep.
Number three, make sure you go to bed at night and get up every morning at the same times. Many of us today make sleep optional rather than a priority, and that's simply wrong. Setting up a schedule to go to bed at the same time every night and to get up every morning at the same time as well means that you will give sleep the priority it needs, to keep you healthy and happy. In other words, sleep is indispensable, and should not be minimized or seen as "optional."
Meditation, taking a warm bath, or drinking a soothing cup of herbal tea before going to bed can help relax you and make you ready for sleep as well. All of these things are conducive to sleep, and thus can help minimize sleepwalking problems.
Finally, if these above steps still don't help take care of sleepwalking problems, you may want to see your doctor. You she can help you figure out why sleepwalking is occurring and give you recommendations, including ruling out any medical problems that may be causing this. But remember, even if nothing is found physically wrong, making your sleep as comfortable and restorative as possible is key. Memory foam mattresses or foam toppers are a good and inexpensive way to help give you the deep and healing sleep you need -- and just may cure your sleepwalking problem, too.
