Success with Slim Fast
A week and a half ago I started with the Slim Fast diet plan. I have had success with this diet in the past but unfortunately I gave into cravings, didn’t watch all that carefully how many calories and such I was consuming, and over the course of five years I put the weight back on and then some. People are always telling me that I am not over-weight, yada, yada. They do not see what I do, and the fact that I am 5’9” helps me hide the extra pounds.
Lose Weight With Slim Fast
If you have never experienced the SlimFast diet and want to shed a few extra pounds I highly recommend it, providing you are healthy otherwise. Diabetics should stay away from Slim Fast, as the sugar is high in content in the meal plans. Personally this is one of the best diet plans for me to follow.
The menu plan that I use is as follows for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack times.
Breakfast with Slim Fast
I have a Chocolatey Royale shake, Strawberry Supreme shake, French vanilla shake, or a Cappuccino shake. Calories vary from 245 to 246. The French Vanilla shake is my favorite as I find the chocolate one tastes a bit chalky.
For me this works really well as so many times I skip breakfast because I am busy doing something and will not eat until lunchtime. As soon as I get up in the morning I will drink the shake and then I do not worry about eating until snack time.
Slim Fast Snack Time
Halfway between breakfast and lunch I will have either one of Slim Fast’s delicious snack bars. There are a variety to choose from which include: Chewy Caramel Twist, Chocolate Chip Crisp, Chocolatey Nougat Gone Nuts and Peanut Butter Crunch Time. The peanut butter one to me tastes just like a Crispy Crunch chocolate bar. There are many other things you can have at snack time, which I have listed.
All snack bars are 100 calories.
Snack Choices other than the Slim Fast Snack Bar
1 medium banana
3 cups of air popped popcorn plain
1 large apple
¼ of a cantaloupe
1 large boiled egg
1 cup of grapes
I myself will stick to anything healthy that is not over
Lunch is Easy With Slim Fast
Most days I will have a Slim Fast Lunch Bar. Your choices for these are: Chocolatey Cookie Dough, Milk Chocolatey Peanut, Oatmeal Raisin and Rich Chocolatey Brownie. I find that these will fill me up providing I drink a large glass of water before and while eating these, as well as chewing the lunch bar really well and not gobbling it down, helps to satisfy my hunger.
Calories in the lunch bars range from 225 – 235.
Between Lunch and Dinner you are allowed to have another snack. You can choose either a snack bar or choose from the snack list.
Example of A Dinner That I Make While On Slim Fast
1 small chicken breast grilled with garlic powder and pepper
1 cup of cooked broccoli
1 baked small potato (I do not use margarine or butter while dieting but instead add ground chili peppers)
1 small salad made with romaine lettuce, 1/4 of a tomato, sliced cucumber and a low 10 calorie per tablespoon Italian dressing.
The Slim Fast Diet Plan suggests a sensible, healthy, well-balanced 500-calorie dinner.
You may think that this is not very much for dinner but I will give you an example of what I eat, or you can go to the Slim Fast online site where they give you many items to choose from as well as a plan that you can follow for two weeks that includes recipes.
Between dinner and bedtime you can have one more snack.
Eating less more frequently = success
I really feel that the success of this diet can be attributed to the fact that you are eating six times a day, which is what most dieticians will tell you to do. I am a strong believer that by eating smaller quantities, healthy choices, and eating more often, gives your body all the fuel it needs throughout the day.
Tips For Any Diet
Helpful Tips That I Find Beneficial For Any Diet
- Drink plenty of water before and during meals and throughout the day
- If you absolutely must have something other than what is on your diet plan try to eat something that is very low in calories such as celery.
- Try not to eat a meal past seven at night.
- Dieting with another person or group of people helps to keep you in tow.
- When hunger hits go for a walk, get out of the kitchen or just do something to get your mind off of the food.
- Do not weigh yourself 4 times a day. Try to only get on that scale 2 - 3 times a week.
It's okay to indulge every now and then
There are days that I am just famished. Yesterday afternoon was one of these times. I just had to have something to eat so I got out 3 stalks of celery and munched away while having water at the same time. This did manage to tide me over until dinnertime.
Both my husband and I are following this diet and for a treat once a week we do indulge at dinnertime at Subway sandwiches. I will have a whole-wheat turkey sub. No mayo, no sub sauce and no cheese. On this sub I have turkey, tomato, green peppers, onions, lettuce, cucumber and a bit of mustard. I am not really sure how many calories this sub entails, but I suppose you could also just have a veggie sub to cut back even more on the calories.
You may want to have your main meal at lunch time and this is fine and probably the better way in which to do it depending on your schedule.
