It is really new for me that guava can be useful during cold/cough. Till now, I heard that it is cough/cold causing food.

Also for me, virgin coconut oil has acted as a miracle during this winter

I always use lemon and honey, but ever since I've been discovering the truth about much of the health we can get from fresh organic foods, I've rethought my diet, and entire out look on consumption of things overall @Jolly.

I love how you display your useful info and relevant content it goes to show how much you truly know about natural remedies, and shows your attention to details in every way.

I appreciate that part of you as a writer for sure, because you go the extra distance, that other may not have done with hub writing, awesome job here.

I use all organic and raw whole food items now, like raw honey with organic lemons, and I use no dairy at all for the natural remedies I prefer to prescribe for myself today. I use to eat chicken noodle soup as well, and put a great deal of hot sauce in it to get rid of a cold entirely, and at time I thought it worked, but I think I was doing more harm then good, because it was canned processed soup I was using, and the hot sauce had high fructose corn syrup in it.

I read all labels today, so that if I do in fact purchase a food item it can be more closer to natural as I can get it, hopefully salvaging what ever nutrients is left, since its not in its truest natural form anymore or connected to a vine, stem or tree anymore.

Awesome hub! Rajan Jolly, you always bring the best informative health hubs, and even inspire me to write many of my own, since I'm into it all myself today, but I'm just an amateur at it all, your more of an expert for sure. Voted up and getting shared everywhere.

Brilliant Hub Rajan! You constantly produce the highest quality content.

Folks might be interested to know that the UK Government (Health) are running a series of TV ads just now about persistent coughing.

They are making the point that if you have had such a cough for 3 weeks you should check with your doctor right away, since this could be a sign of the early onset of lung cancer. And, of course, the earlier it can be diagnosed the higher your chances of beating it.

Voted up and awesome.

CloudExplorer, I'm glad you are so very conscious of what you eat. Great to know that you also are writing on topics like health which benefit others while increasing one's knowledge. It's good to be aware of what one eats and try to consume foods that are healthy.

John, nice to see you here again. In India, the government has been stressing to get a diagnosis done in case there is persistent cough for over 15 days.

It's good to know it's being advertised in the UK too.

It would certainly be better to go for medical evaluation in such cases. Thanks for this input. It would certainly benefit readers.

Glad you chipped in with this info. I appreciate your interest and involvement. Thanks.

excellent hub, Rajan.

I am a big fan of honey and ginger every morning 'cause of pollen allergies here (springtime)

I was also told to roast some cloves and grind them and mix them with honey when dry cough.

btw...Rajan could you do a hub on pollen allergies pls. You are so wise...feels good to come from you.

Thanking you!

voted up as interesting as ALWAYS!

rajan jolly profile image

rajan jolly 4 years ago from From Mumbai, presently in Jalandhar,INDIA. Author

Changing seasons especially spring time allergies are most common due to the spread of pollens through the air. The high numbers of pollen at this time of the year and their mode of dispersal is the cause.

Thanks for reading, appreciating and voting.

Definitely gonna keep these in mind. I have been sick for the better part of the last 3 months... the last month which is mostly cough and cold stuff. That being said - I wish I would have read this awhile ago. However, they finally got the meds to work and the cough is mostly gone. I must ask though - why shouldn't you drink water after grapes? Great hub - useful and sharing!

Rajan Jolly,

This is a very interesting and useful hub. I have two other things to add for home remedies which have helped me when I had a bad cough. While I was living in Taiwan, I learned that loquat syrup will help stop a cough. While in Thailand, my wife introduced me to sucking on a lemon which gave me instant relief. Voted up and sharing.

Highly informative. Natural remedies do wonders! Unfortunately few people are aware of this. Most people just run down to the closest pharmacy and buy powerful medicines for a running nose or a cough that can be treated with a bit of milk, honey or plant tea.
