You gotta be careful putting out lists like this. People are paranoid and desperate and not thinking straight. They will go out and buy a few of these and take them without a doctor's supervision and you have BELLADONNA on your list which is LETHAL.

Thanks for your comment, but please note that not only did I state that "it comes without personal recommendation as to its efficacy" but all homeopathic remedies are diluted hundreds of times and are all perfectly safe. I would not hesitate for an instant in drinking a vial of 1000C belladonna homeopathic remedy as there is essentially nothing in there but water. Anyone who takes ANY of these elements listed on this page in pure form needs their head examined. :)

I think this whole "swine flu" thing is being blown way out of proporsion.

If it were to plateau out at this level, I'd fully agree with you. However, it shows no signs of slowing down right now, but only time will tell.

Swine Flu Remedies 7 years ago

There are plenty of alternative and homeopathic remedies available. While you have to be careful in which alternative you select and they may not all work, some are very helpful and at the very least can ease the pain that comes along with any flu. There has been a resurgence in these alternate medicines in recent years. I found a good resource earlier today which seems to have some decent information and frequent posts being added at

I would be much happier if there was a shred of clinical evidence for any of these. :(

I've been very clear that there is not "a shred of clinical evidence for any of these" and that in any "homeopathic remedy there is essentially nothing in there but water". I have friends who assure me that homeopathy is effective, but it is a hypothesis that my own reading and experience does not support in any way.

Yes, because water is safe.

Well, that's pretty well all there chemically is present in homeopathic remedies: water and nothing but water.

· Hippocrates is considered the ‘Father of Medicine.’

· Doctors today still take the ‘Hippocratic oath’ – one of the principles of this is to ‘First Do No Harm.’

· Hippocrates taught a number of other principles which unfortunately Doctors today don’t follow. One of these was ‘like cures like’ – one of the core principles of homeopathic medicine.

· Medicine since the beginning of human history was based on use of ‘natural treatments’ including herbs, spices, plants, animal substances, and minerals – many of these substances make up ‘homeopathic medicines.’

· Medicine continued this way right up until world war two. The war period introduced chemicals, synthetic materials and toxins as ‘medicines’. This was because plants, spices, and other natural materials were not easily available at this time.

· Following this, a separation occurred between those doctors believing in the natural way, and those doctors believing in the ‘chemical way.’ The Dr’s using these ‘faux’ chemical based treatments were successful in their legal cases against doctors who practiced the ‘natural way’ and called themselves naturopaths (and homeopaths) – they successfully banned naturopath and homeopathic doctors from practicing for a period of time.

· By the end of the 19th century, with all the focus on ‘chemical’ treatments and miracle vaccines etc, natural medicine came to be seen as ‘superstitious’ or magical. – This view certainly wasn’t based on research or the ‘best evidence’ but still doctors still avoided it for fear that they would be disciplined by their accreditation bodies and colleagues for practicing it. The tradition has continued but is slowly changing…

· Today, homeopaths and naturopaths have accreditation bodies that oversee their practice, just like allopathic doctors, nurses and other allied health professionals. So its pretty unjust to go around calling them a ‘scam’.

· Of studies of homeopathy, some have found it to be effective, some have not. But this is more than goes to be said for modern medicine.

· Most ‘evidence based’ research today on ‘drugs’ and ‘medicines’ is funded by the drug companies themselves. Those same companies are the ones that promote to doctors what they should treat their patients with. You only need to walk into a doctor’s surgery and take a look at the drug companies annual reports and look at who the share holders and stake holders are to know that medicine today is not just about promoting health and curing illness – and I am sure I don’t need to point out who the stakeholders are.

· Most allopathic doctors will oppose natural treatments of any sort and call it ‘quackery’ despite that the use of natural medicines have a much longer history than the use of chemicals and synthetic treatments. They can’t have their ‘patient’s’ turn away from them and risk destroying their patriarchal money making system.

· Homeopathy is highly respected in Germany, some Eastern European countries and India.

· Vaccinations still aren’t totally proven as being the cause for the decline in certain illnesses in the population.

· Homeopathic medicines are zero toxic compared to tamiflu.

· Natural or chemical – it doesn’t take much common sense to figure out which one is better….

· No I am not a naturopath, homeopath or natural practitioner of any sort, just someone who has taken the time to properly ‘educate’ myself and not be ‘brainwashed’ by the mainstream view that Doctors are Gods that has been drilled into me like everyone else since I was a child.. and someone who has experienced the ‘harmful’ effects of modern medicine a number of times. I dare to think outside the box and look for ways to keep healthy and prevent myself from even having to take those ridiculous chemical concoctions.

The FDA will continue to do all it can to keep control over you..

A pandemic just means it's gonna spread a lot! This kind of flu is not as virulent as many predicted.

So if you're not elderly, a child, pregnant or have your immunity compromised, don't be too much concerned.

Even if you get the flu it won't kill you - it's just a flu!

Hal Licino profile image

Hal Licino 7 years ago from Toronto Author

Unfortunately, you're incorrect as to the age groups. H1N1 is primarily targeting young adults, just like it did in 1918. As for the virulence, the autumn wave is expected to be much stronger, especially since Tamiflu-resistant strains are already popping up. I continue to maintain my warning as clear and as strongly as ever. Watch out, as this could be a MEAN one! :(

Swine Flu And Homoeopathy

Swine Flu ….Homoeopathy comes to your rescue .

For the last 2 months there is a panic atmosphere in the society because of the massive spread of Swine flu infection. Recent deaths in patients ranging from 9 months to 60 yrs has added to the panic , fear and anxiety in the people .

Under these circumstances Homoeopathy has come as saviour for the society

This wonderful science has time and again come to the rescue of the society in various epidemics and pandemics all over the world since its discovery 300yrs ago By Dr. S Hahnemann. Even now, in this Pandemic of swine flu this science is proving its time tested principles.

Swine flu Preventive medicines are available in homoeopathy . These medicines give complete immunity against the H1N1 influenza virus .

With the Swine flu vaccine still in the making and not expected till November .

The homoeopathic preventive medicines are helping to create immunity in the masses .

These preventive medicines are available with Homoeopathic Physicians

And Homoeo Pharmacies they should be taken by all healthy persons of all age group from infants to senior citizens .

I have been extensively treating influenza cases in my clinic for the last 1to 2 months with miraculous results .

Even patients with high grade fever, severe throat infection , breathlessness, drowsiness and weakness have responded completely to homoeopathic medicines within 24hrs .

Recovery is complete within next 36 hrs to 72hrs and the person is fit to resume his normal life .I have seen patients in all age group right from 3 yrs to 50 yrs coming with very severe presentation of influenza and getting completely cured with homoeopathic medicines

Medicines like Influenzium 200 are used as preventive against the H1N1 virus .

Medicines like Gelsemium , Arsenic , are giving wonderful results intreating the sick patient.

But in view of the fatality associated with this disease and the number of death cases it would be best to take the homoeopathic medicines under the supervision and expertise of homoeopathic physicians rather than self medication and over the counter prescriptions.

It is my sincere appeal to the society to make the best use of this wonderful and effective science, so easily available and cost effective .

We have experience and versatile homoeopathic physicians in our society who can help treat the H1N1 influenza.

Dr Mitali Upadhye

Homoeopathic Consultant .

Dear Hal, yes, there is clinical evidence for homeopathy if you look for it. I had blood pressure of 147/88 pulse 85. I took homeopathic remedy Bugle weed 30 once a day for 3 weeks, i then had my bp taken at the doctors surgery. it had dropped to 110/69 pulse 69, thats a 37 point drop! I myself was shocked because I never expected such a decrease. Also, my doctor was impressed when my severe menopausal symptom of Hot Flushes suddenly stopped on the 6th day of taking a homeopathic remedy Sepia 30. Sepia is sold in all health food shops for hot flushes, and the homeopathic preperation worked for me. I had been suffering severely with it day and night for months.

Hal Licino profile image

Hal Licino 7 years ago from Toronto Author

yep yep: The problem with ANY unapproved medical "treatment" which has no clinical evidence is that if someone with a critical illness becomes suckered into believing that "habaneros cure cancer" then they might not follow actual proven treatments prescribed by their physicans and DIE.

JANE-DORA FRASER: No clinical evidence in peer reviewed medical journals. Ever. Period.

And note I DO NOT recommend ANYTHING on this Hub to do ANYTHING but make you poorer.

JANE-DORA FRASER 7 years ago

Dear Hal, How do you explain someone in severe pain with a dental abscess who then takes a remedy like silicea 3o or sepia 30 and then in a period 3-5 minutes the throbbing simply stops. When I first experienced this I was literally gobsmacked? On another occasion a had a full blown migraine attack with overwhelming nausea and my whole head throbbing. I was at my wits end and took Bryronia 30 to see if it would help.Within seconds of taking the nausea subsided and within 5 mins the full head thumbing headache just stopped. I don't understand it, but it worked. How can we be so dismissive of something that is giving such tremendous pain relief.

Scuse me, but too much Belladonna will hurt you if not kill you.....The herbs listed yes are for specific things, but without knowledge of how much to take of each herb: or the preparation of it-- is a disaster waiting to happen....All herbs have to be taken properly,,,

In my hubs, I have an herb listed as one of the best to boost immune systems, BUT AND I MEAN BUT IF YOU TAKE IT FOR TOO LONG A PERIOD, YOU CAN OVERDOSE AND I EXPLAIN THIS IN THE HUB....Herbs are just like taking regular medicine, you have to know HOW to use them, not just that they do certain things.....So maybe you should update this hub with the proper dosage of each herb so someone doesnt' hurt themselves by not knowing how to use it

Other than this, this was an informative hub....and I have studied herbal medicines for over 20 years so I know what I am sayin....

You really need to do your research on homeopathy because you don't understand how they make it at all. You are a very close minded person. It is an energetic vibrational medicine. Bet you poo poo that too. You fall for the pharmalogical garbage. Homeopathic medicine was mainstream before chemical drugs came along. Hippocrates used homeopathy so that shows you how old it is.

You do this Hub only to gain money from the Google Adsense. Shame on you. You have no interest in homeopathy so why write about what rememdies help with what.

Do yourself a favour and Google homeopathy and the Spanish flu (it was h1n1 also). They used homeopathy in the 1918 Spanish Flu. Only 1% of patients died using it while 30% of patients treated with regular medicine died. Quite a difference. Google Oscillococcinum which you take at the moment you feel you have the flu or Influenzinum which has the predicted flu strain in it for that year. It is a dead virus so it won't harm you. Much like the dead virus in flu shots but you won't have the side effects that the flu shot has. Some say Oscillococcinum was used to treat the Spanish Flu but back then it was known as the 'homeopathic remedy' as it wasn't 'marketed' until 1935 as Oscillococcinum.

Hal you can lash out at my comment all you want but I will never know what you will say as I won't be back to check!

Both of us are highly sceptical about homeopathy. However, last year one of Tricia's Pilates pupils gave her some homeopathic remedidies in a well-meaning attempt to cure something that was troubling Tricia. To her surprise, she did get better. Of course, she might have just got better anyway.

One good experience (for one of us) has not turned either of us into a convert to homeopathy. Give us scientifically proven treatments please.

Hal Licino profile image

Hal Licino 6 years ago from Toronto Author

Don't get me wrong, as I am convinced that many people who take homeopathic remedies get better, but then again, there are countless examples in the medical literature of the placebo effect and similar "mind over body" examples. The bottom line when it comes to homeopathy is the chemistry. There is no discernable active ingredient in any homeopathic solution. "The memory of water" just doesn't cut it. It's very telling that there has been a long standing million dollar prize for anyone proving that ANY homeopathic remedy works. No one's claimed it yet! But I'm glad Tricia's better! :)

Thank God the "swine flu" pandemic is now below the radar. Nevertheless, this list of natural remedies will be very helpful. A lot of us are turning into nature nowadays to look for cure/remedies. The reason behind this is that it is the safest form of remedy that we can find.
