Success - The Decision to Be Successful

Updated on August 30, 2012

Success is a Personal Destination

Making a deliberate choice  ~ that is what it is all about ~.  If life is like a road map, then to get where you want to go, you need to make choices that will take you there.  There is a personal destination that you may or may not have begun to explore within yourself.

Determination is a key factor in keeping yourself motivated towards going after what you want.  It is easy to get sidetracked by interferences and obstacles that come along.  Success and satisfaction will be yours when you understand how to circumvent these interferences.

Success is a Personal Destination

Be True to Yourself, Know Who You Are

Success does not mean money, or prestige, or power. It means whatever you want it to mean. It can have to do with material gains, or it can have to do with intrinsic values of family and personal desires. Success can have to do with hobbies, leisure, vacation, self improvement, a life long dream, or pursuing a talent you always dreamed of fulfilling.  Success is a personal journey.  You define success, it is not the definition a relative, friend, or society imposes on you.  Success is like tailored clothing, it  needs to uniquely fit you,and when it does, it feels right. And what you think you might want, you many discover, uncover, and recover as you explore your path towards success. It is okay to change your mind and alter what you thought you wanted. Learning is an accomplishment in and of itself. The first step towards feeling and being successful is knowing who exactly you are.  The better you know yourself, the more clearly you can determine what you want for yourself.
  • know what matters to you
  • know your passions
  • know your strengths and weaknesses
  • give up on perfection, flaws are a beautiful part of nature
  • think positive
  • be decisive
  • deal with your doubts and fears by loving yourself, and forgiving yourself for what you are not
  • appreciate yourself for who you are
  • look at the big picture
  • don’t bite off more than you can chew
  • always try to be realistic
  • encourage yourself - confidence will take you far
  • define your own beliefs
  • have real reasons for why you want to put your effort towards your desire.

What is Important to You?

What is Important to You

It is important to set clearly defined milestones so that you can see yourself working towards the bigger success. You can set a time frame in which you want to achieve these things. Always make sure the objectives you set and the things you begin to focus on fit into the desires you have for yourself. Make your desires realistic. Ambition is good, but setting your sights too high, may cause frustration and may lead to giving up on what you want.
State your objectives in a positive way. Be exact by setting up measurable accomplishments in the form of time, number amounts, and other quantifiable items that you can list. Give each objective a priority. Think about how and when you can concentrate and focus on working towards your desires. Make your accomplishments bite size so that you can achieve them.

  • Ask yourself constantly, what is important to you in your life?.
  • Stir up your inner drive and motivate yourself
  • Be kind to yourself, compliment your own achievements and build up your self confidence
  • Go for it!
  • Start today!

Make a Promise to Yourself

Own your values, and believe in yourself that obstacles are temporary, and won’t stop you from going towards what you really want.

Success is not accident, it is a self guided  intention coupled with a can do attitude. It is supported by knowing and valuing the beautiful assets you possess.  Success comes from knowing that you can achieve just because you can. Deciding on your own success means you have blinders on.  Don’t let the influences of the naysayers stop you.  Deciding on success means determination and one mindedness. It means, failing, quitting, procrastinating are not options you will entertain.  Decide to be determined and you will achieve.

Value your time, value your inner resources, value your core beliefs. Make sure the things you do, count. What you think determines what you do and how you react. The way we perceive ourselves and the positions we find ourselves in expose ourselves to situations that create positive or negative events.  The things we think about are major components towards being successful. Conquer your self defeating thoughts and claim your personal positive attributes.

Equip yourself with knowledge and education so that you have the tools you need to get further than you ever have before.  Adopt a mentor, research as much as you can, and observe from others. Pursue your desires by modeling yourself after someone you believe matches your desires, and your inner self. Be realistic, and compromise on things that are not important to your core beliefs.  Obstacles and interferences are okay.  Get over the hurdles and keep yourself focused on the big picture, the real reasons you want to achieve this success.  Be loyal to your desires. Be patient.  Be persistent.  Envision yourself living the desires you want to achieve.  Clearly define your dreams, and make sure they match with who you truly are, and what you really want for yourself.  Make a promise to yourself to be dedicated and committed to finishing what you start.  Work towards your desire with a passion and enthusiasm so that you reenergize yourself along the way.  Avoid the stress and burnout by taking care of yourself along the way.  It is always a mistake to  sacrifice yourself for the sake of succeeding. So make sure you have balance in your life.  Enjoy the journey towards success.  Create your path and make everyday count, but be sure to take pleasure in the efforts you make.  Take responsibility for what you do and what you don’t do, so that you learn and adjust to the changes it takes to get where you want to go.
