10 Superfoods For Weight Loss

Work these 10 superfoods into your diet and feel like a lean, mean fat-fighting superhero in no time!

1. Eggs

Eggs should be a staple for any super dieter. They are a high quality protein source rich in vitamins A and D. They are important for brain function so perfect for breakfast!

2. Olive Oil

Olive oil contains a lot of 'good' fat (monosaturated fat) which is digested better than other unhealthy fats such as butter and peanut oil. It will also leave you feeling full for a longer period of time reducing your need to eat loads later. Try it today in a pasta dish.

3. Blueberries

A definite superhero amongst all healthy fruits. They have the highest antioxidant levels amongst all commonly eaten fruits and contain a punch pack of fiber. Fiber can help block some of the fat that you consume. They are known to reduce high blood pressure and even wrinkles! Try some blueberry pancakes tomorrow morning.

4. Almonds

Almonds are a fantastic nut for your waistline. The will maintain your blood sugar level and keep you from any unwarranted binges. They also help lower cholesterol levels. Consume in moderation, as they can get caloric. Sneak a handful into a snack bag for work for when you get those cravings.

5. Apples

Apples not only keep the doctor away, but the fat. Studies have shown that people who regularly consume apples are likely to have a healthier waistline than those who do not. They have 4-5 g of fiber per apple and will keep you satisfied for several hours. Try munching one right before dinner, it'll cut down on how much you consume.

6. Wild Salmon

This is a true superfood protein source. The omega-3's in fresh salmon will reduce heart problems, fight you fat, fight depression, help protect against cancer, but also help build muscle. This is a superfood must. Try incorporating Salmon into you diet weekly by preparing a fresh dinner of salmon, look for recipes online!

7. Yogurt

Yogurt will be your best friend in weightloss. Dieters who choose yogurt burn 78% more fat, reduce waistlines, and stay full through the morning. The calcium reduces fat absorption and keeps blood sugar levels steady. On top of that, it also boosts you immune system. Try one as a mid-morning snack or even a post-workout snack.

8. Chiles

Chiles are fantastic metabolism boosters meaning, they will be your best friend in fighting fat. The capsaicin in chiles causes the body to burn extra calories 20 minutes after consumption, and inhibits growth of fat cells. Spice up your night with a spicy meal or snack on some bell peppers throughout the afternoon.

9. Broccoli

Broccoli is such a fantastic vegetable when fresh. It contains a load of folic acid, calcium, fiber, potassium and iron! It is known to prevent breast cancer as it is rich in Vitamin A and C. It can help keep you full for long periods of time. It truly is a super vegetable. Eat it as a sidedish to any meat to keep your body strong and lean.

10. Dark Chocolate

Dark chocolate is rich in antioxidants and is full of magnesium, manganese, copper and zinc, all great fighters for strong bones. In addition, it may also lower blood pressure and calm nerves. But, it must also be consumed in moderation, since it has fat. Try an ounce of 70% cocoa chocolate and start feeling great!

Great hub! These are all weight loss promoting and health promoting foods. Even though eggs have a bad reputation due to older studies on cholesterol content, more recent research studies have shown that eggs are good for you. Thank you for this well-written hub and useful information.

Love all of these except for salmon. Can I substitute tuna?

yenajeon profile image

yenajeon 6 years ago from California Author

Habee, I mean you could I guess since it still has omega 3 but tuna is missing alot of the 'extra special' stuff in salmon.
