Take Time to Smell the Roses

For those who may be unfamiliar with this expression it simply reminds us to slow down, catch our breath, and take in the wonders that surround us.

We get so caught up in the rush rush of every day living that many times we miss the sunrises, the sunsets, the newly blossomed flower, the refreshing rain that comes.

Can you remember when the last time was that you put aside whatever pressing task you had and just allowed yourself to totally relax, outside away from all of life's normal stressors?

If you are having a difficult time remembering when that time was, clearly it is time for you to back up and regroup.

It is time to put some things on hold for a time...it does not need to be a long time...It is time to re-prioritize.

Put YOU in the picture.

Nothing can beat the smell of dew and flowers and the odor that comes out of the earth when the sun goes down.

— Ethel Waters

"some Time"

It just needs to be 'some time.'

Time enough to refresh

  • your body
  • your mind

and

  • your soul

Time to smell the proverbial roses.

Time to see and feel even a tiny bit of what nature offers each day.

Life is full of beauty. Notice it. Notice the bumble bee, the small child, and the smiling faces. Smell the rain, and feel the wind. Live your life to the fullest potential, and fight for your dreams.

— Ashley Smith

Time Lapse Photography Shares Nature's Splendor

Just a Few Moments...

Just a few minutes is all you need.

Getting in tune with nature does not have to become 'one more thing' to add to your list that is already overflowing, too demanding. That would, of course, defeat the purpose.

Steal away a few minutes to peek at the sky above..the billowy sassy clouds sailing by...

the pristine snowflakes falling ...

the crystal drops of water that fall gently as you walk along in it...

Whatever...take a few moments to soak in nature's calm...

Unexpected Splash of Color Appears...

Notice What Surrounds You

Stop ever so briefly (if that is all the time you can spare) and really see the grasses, the blossoms, the skies, the waters that you may pass hurriedly each day.

It is calming and will help to begin your day in a lovely way.

As you walk down the fairway of life you must smell the roses, for you only get to play one round.

— Ben Hogan

Really Notice Your Surroundings

What wonders await as you step into nature...

Take time to observe~~

  • texture
  • color
  • shape
  • size
  • variety

How many colors of green do you see, for example?

How many different yellow flowers pop up?

Observe the size and shape of trees and leaves and weeds and grasses.

One really beautiful thing is....all of the wonders you see are FREE. There is no cost.

And the wonders are there every single day..something new, every time you step out.

Do yourself and your family a huge favor...give yourself time to slow down just for a few minutes each day. It is unbelievable how much better you will feel...Guaranteed!!!

Hi Rolly....I do also wonder how one can live, really live, without a deep connection to the natural beauty that surrounds us each day. It re-energizes me and uplifts me every day. I still walk eight miles a day and in doing so have many opportunities to be immersed in nature..it is truly good for the soul.

Thank you for stopping to visit. Angels once again are headed your way ps

Hi pstraubie48

I can not help but wonder what others do without the beauty and peace of seeing nature as she is. I like to think we all have the inherent belief there is something far greater than ourselves who created this wonder we have so close at hand.

I can honestly say that nature saved my life from total and complete destruction of my addictions. Nature is pure, perfectly created to sustain itself through natural balance if left alone.

Man disrupts that balance through his or her greed, sadly we see it happening all throughout the world. We say well a little here and a little there will make no difference. Sadly it is that same attitude that had destroyed what lives in perfect harmony.

Thank you for the journey you have put together and your appreciation for what is real... well done my friend...

Hugs and blessings from Canada

Hi Pat, I haven't been in touch in a while. There is so much going on in my family and with the holidays, I got overwhelmed and wasn't on my computer as much, neither have I done much on HubPages. This was a really good hub for me to read. I was getting stressed and taking time enjoy the beauty around in nature is the best way to get "un-stressed", if you will. Thank you for this hub, there was a reason for it. You have some amazing pictures, just beautiful. Hope everything is going well for you.

Much blessings to you.

Patricia,

Yes, I love to smell the roses

Wet with morning dew

I love to watch the birds

And the squirrels chasing each other

Without a single word

When I was working there wasn't time

But now that I am retired the time is mine

I love the billowy sassy clouds

As they go drifting by

Across a clear blue sky.

This is beautiful my dear friend

Blessings and hugs

And this time the angels are on the way to you

Happy New year.

Pat, I'm glad you threw in that second poll. The first one didn't give me the option of "yes".

Even when I'm at work I step outside a few times a day (to smoke and I don't want to hear it!) When I'm there, I look up in the trees, watch the birds, listen to the various bird calls and identify the unseen in my mind. I look at the viburnum that were recently cut back to bare stalks and smile at the new growth that is forming.

I watch the sun come up as I go to work and witness it ascend on my way home.

When my time is my own, I'm ever-watchful of nature and the flurry of life that goes on around me.

Yes, I stop to smell the proverbial (and real) roses every day. What would life be without those pure moments?
