Ten sure ways to overcome stress and tension at workplace!- You can do it!

Updated on July 23, 2014

‘It’s not stress that kills us; it is our reaction to it.’-Hans Selye

Stress at work place can make it impossible for you to feel relaxed, as your mind is always tensed thinking of the hard day ahead. There are times when you feel that you can never cope up with the work load you have.

Most of you feel highly strung up when you think of your boss, the work load and your inability to understand the nuances of the work allotted to you. You do not look forward to your work and when you return home you bring your tensed mood along with you. You find it hard to concentrate on your job and you feel that the management is placing undue work burden on your shoulders.

What are the varied emotions you experience in your work place?

  • Fear when a bully makes your day terrifying and scary.
  • Tiredness when your work keeps piling up.
  • Frustration when your junior colleague gets the promotion.
  • Depression when the income from work is just not enough to meet out the financial needs of your family.
  • Seething anger when the management ridicules you before other colleagues.
  • Irritation at the long commuting time from work to home.
  • Aggravation when the work deadline looms nearby.

Is work stress that much of a problem?

Can stress be handled and overcome?

Is it possible to be successful in your job?

You feel tormented by the enormous work load and the indifferent attitude of your colleagues. You want success in work, but do not know how to concentrate on your work and be proficient.

Of course you can be stress free at work!

Are you wondering how? There is one person who can easily handle all your stress related problems. You should always call him for help and he is more than ready to help you out. Are you still confused who that friend is? It is you! It is you who can pool you out of your situation and no one else can do the trick.

1. Exercise your mind

What does exercising your mind mean? It is very easy to let things drift apart than to pull yourself to act in a way that spells success to you. You must always be alert and on your toes to make your mind vibrate with enthusiasm and vigor. Do you know it is your mind that makes you stressed or happy? When you feed negative thoughts into your mind, it finds it easy to slump and crumble into inactivity. You should always think positively and feel you are more than capable of delivering the goods.

2. I am good

Are you a perfectionist? Do you compare yourself with others? If so, you are making your life very tedious and tiresome. Do not be too focused on doing things with utmost perfection. If you do so, you will feel your work lacking and you will redo it again and again till there is an enormous backlog of work load staring at you. Go about your work methodically and with concentration and the rest falls into the groove.

3. Be ready to improve

You should never feel that you know everything. Knowledge is a never ending journey and there is always room for improvisation. There is something new to learn everyday and you can learn from your juniors also. You do not lessen yourself when you upgrade your awareness from others. Improvisation improves your work and improved work always makes you relaxed.

4. Ask help

No man is an island and you too cannot survive in this world without the help of others. It is always better to ask the help of your colleagues and finish your work with efficiency than to ignore them and falter in your work. There should be reciprocal helping hand from you when they need your help.

5. Be assertive

If you falter and fumble with lack of confidence, you will not be respected by your colleagues. What does assertiveness mean? It is having self confidence in yourself and your capability. You are always looked upon as a trust worthy person only when you are positive and self assured.

6. Be self disciplined

You should be totally focused on self discipline as it makes you proficient, dedicated and totally focused on your work. When there is focus you will do your work with eagerness and zeal. When you obey the rules and regulations of your company your mind does not revolt against it.

7. Little by little

There is a time limit for everything. Nothing can lag on forever. It is more so in your work. Do not let your work pile up. Your mind should be focused on the deadline set by the management. Do your work steadily, little by little. When you are steadfast, there is no pending work in your table and that is one big stress off your shoulders.

8. Appreciate yourself

Do you appreciate yourself? Do you know that your mind yearns for a kind word from you? You look for appreciation from others. It does feel good when people appreciate you, but all these are floating- above- the head - pleasure. The approval should come from you and it is then you feel the inner vibration of your true worthiness. Your stress withers away when there is self approval from within you.

9. Be friendly

Do not stay aloof in work place. It will be boring and dull. You spend most of your time with your colleagues and if you are at logger heads with them you will find your work place a storehouse of stress, tension and fatigue. You cannot expect everyone to behave in a way you like. You must accept the faults of others and not think that it is targeted at you. A smile does a thousand times of work which a frown will negate!

10. Respect your boss, but do not be servile!

It is very important you respect your boss, but that does not mean you should bend your knees before him. If you act servile, he is bound to dominate you in a bossy way which you will definitely dislike. You should be work efficient, punctual, assertive and confident when you interact with your boss and this sends out the signal that you cannot be played along with.

You should always know that you are interacting and working with ordinary human beings and not with some super powered aliens. When you give undue importance to others and lower yourself as though you were some lesser person, you will be stampeded by your colleagues. Stand tall before them and sport a friendly smile which makes you liked by them and your work place is no longer a terrifying nightmare.
