The Perfect Lemon Juice Detox Drink

My daily morning ritual is to get out of bed, go down to the kitchen and immediately fill a 16 ounce glass with purified water. To the water, I squeeze in a half of an organic lemon and drink it down within a half an hour. This is how I give my body a jump start on detoxifying for the day.

It is a refreshing, simple way to prime my liver for the toxins that will need to filter through it. Transforming my water into a lemon detox drink makes it easier for me to get in my quota of water for the day (half of your body weight in ounces). The lemon makes it a refreshing, tasty beverage. To go a step further, you can make your lemon detox drink a lemonade by adding a little stevia to it for sweetening. You will still get the detoxifying effects while also giving yourself a little treat.

Lemon is also great for helping you to maintain a proper acid/alkaline balance in your system. As part of a healthy diet, it can raise the alkaline in your blood which can aid in fighting off inflammation. While lemon may be acidic going into your system, once it hits your digestive tract, it turns alkaline. High levels of inflammation in your body can affect your immune system and make it more difficult to fight off diseases such as cancer.

Foods that will help you to maintain a more alkaline environment in your system are healthy foods such as organic produce, nuts, and whole grains. Highly processed junk foods, foods that are high in saturated fats and refined white sugar will raise your acid levels making you more susceptible to disease.

For maximum benefit, make the lemon juice detox a part of your daily routine. I purchase a bag of fresh organic lemons from the market every week so I always have them on hand. Use them whenever you would use lemon juice. A fresh spritz of organic lemon instead of bottled juice is so much more healthy and better tasting.

Your lemon detox drink can also be enjoyed warm. On a cold day, squeeze the lemon into a mug of warm water. Not only does this become a warming beverage, but you will gain all of the benefits: antioxidants, vitamin C and a more alkaline environment in your body, you gain when you drink a cold beverage.

You can aid your body in detoxification in many different ways, adding a lemon juice detox drink to your daily regime is one of those small things that can make a big difference in your health.
