The meaning of life is to succeed with one’s internal development!

Updated on January 23, 2012

Man has throughout its development made an effort to get better. And it is in the nature of man to seek new solutions and increase ability.

But until present, it has mostly been about our external development such as better status, better finances and to save time. We humans are totally absorbed in the phenomenon of time which have full control over our lives. Much of the development has focused on forward, upward and more in terms of material things and power.

This kind of development alone has proven to be quite bad for us. People are more lost than ever before, and many people are wondering about what’s the meaning of life.

To own many tangible things may provide temporary gratification. And when the purchase is well done, you can probably enjoy for a moment, but if the emptiness was there before the purchase, the feeling will come back pretty soon.

So, now it’s really time to embark on a new path and understand that the meaning of life is within us! To be able to find happiness we need to learn to be a better person! Instead of spending all our energy on chasing material things we can use at least a small part of that energy to get better as a person. It will make a huge difference, because we are looking in the right place! If we feel good inside, we can also appreciate and enjoy our material assets more. To succeed with ones internal development takes time and requires some effort, but it is well spent time and energy!

How do we know what is the meaning?

What is the meaning of life? Is it happiness? Happiness is a wonderful feeling that we constantly strive for. But happiness is often short-lived, and there is no one who is happy all the time. So that pursuit of happiness will not give us meaning in our lives. But if we know our goal and have a meaning in our life, we will experience happiness more often. And the moments of unhappiness will not be as long or feel so terrible because people with high exuberance and energy do not remain in an unhappy feeling for so long.

How to get there!

Focus on your good sides and talents!

All people have good sides and talents. Instead of focusing on what you don’t have or your shortcomings, concentrate instead on the thing that makes you feel good, the actions and emotions that make you happy. If you focus on the things that make you happy and are inspiring instead of struggling with something that you should, you will get inner satisfaction and feel the joy of life.

Be nice!

Nowadays, to be good is almost equal to being stupid or foolish. I think it should be the other way around. To be nice and do nice things for others is instead bold and shows great strength in a human. And the good part is that if you are nice to others it will pay back in the same way! To be good requires that you have empathy and respond to others as they want to be treated. To be able to do that means that you will have to put yourself into another person’s view of life, which is not always so easy. Being nice will pay off in the long run!

Focus on your thoughts!

You are as you think! Our thoughts are very powerful and the things we believe in are what we get. Try to focus more on the positive things in your life instead of the negative. And if you sometimes have negative thoughts it is all right, but do not get stuck with them.

Have a goal!

If you know what you want there is a bigger chance to get there! Maybe you haven’t thought of this yet, but try to get a clear picture of what you want with your life. You do this by thinking about what kind of person you want to be? A good way to get there is to imagine that you are 80 years old, and think about how you then want to look back at your life.

Try to imagine what kind of person you want to be. Maybe you know a person that makes you feel good and have influenced you in a positive way. What is it with that person that influences you positively? Try to formulate your own objectives from how you want to be and what’s important to you. Let it take time, and write down the important things. Make keywords and phrases of the things that you want included. Eventually you will be able to create a sentence for the meaning with your life, or a vision. Let this goal guide you in your daily life all the time. You can use this sentence as a wall words or a wall quote and let your goal be a part of your design!

If you work on your internal development you will eventually see the meaning of your life and at the same time you will hopefully have become a good person!

Be a good person!

What is a good person? That is of course very personal and can vary from man to man. But here are some properties that I think can distinguish a good person:

  • Respect others opinions.
  • Try to understand others before you can expect to be understood.
  • Respect your self.
  • Choose happiness
  • Dare to show and feel emotions
  • Be nice
  • Live the life that you want and not the way that is expected of you!
  • Be present in the moment.
  • Have good self-esteem.

Since we constantly developed, the meaning of our life may be changing as time goes by. And so we have to work with our internal development all our life! Create a happy 80-years birthday for yourself!
