The Seven Steps Hand Washing Technique

There are steps to follow when washing your hands. Proper hand washing is not simply wetting, soaping and getting rid of all the suds. It is more than that.

You need to get rid of a large percentage of bacteria in your hands and you can effectively do this by following some simple steps.

These are simple steps you can teach yourself or your children to follow.

Wet hands and apply soap into palm

Rub palm to palm for 10 to 15 seconds

Right palm over the back of left palm, vice versa

Rub palm to palm with fingers interlaced

Backs of fingers to opposite palms with fingers interlocked

Rub right thumb rotationally with left palm, vice versa

Rotational rubbing of right fingertips to palm, vice versa

Rotational rubbing of right wrist by left palm, vice versa

Wash hands with water thoroughly and pat until dry

Wow, this is fantastic! I'm somewhat of a hand washing fanatic, but I had not heard of this technique, nor am I familiar with those areas on the hands that are typically neglected with hand washing. This is fantastic!

Yes I was also initially surprised by how much area we miss when washing. I did not usually wash my hands like this before I took my laboratory courses and so I have now put it into practice. I hope you inculcate this in your daily hand washing. You'll reap the benefits immediately! Thanks, Missolive and Simone Smith! :)

This is great! I had no idea that we missed out some places. I frequently wash my hands and I do most of the steps except for the bit on washing with your fingers interlaced to get between your fingers. Covering the finger tips is also very important. Voted up and useful!
