Small weight losses count....

I have a friend who wanted to lose just 14 pounds. Her target goal was to drop to 95 pounds from 109.

I didn't know her height and build, but I suggested the same maximum of a 2% weight loss per month over the six months that rate would require, and I added that I thought she might be happy that she would reach 102 in just three months, without losing muscle, by reducing sugars, drinking her day's worth of water, getting some enjoyable weight-bearing exercise, taking a good multiple vitamin,and eating five to seven small, nutritious meals with adequate rest.

She had asked about white rice as part of those meals, and I commented that she could have the rice with every meal, if she wished, but to remember that brown rice is harder to digest than white rice.

Another friend said that she had maintained her chosen weight for three years by simply counting calories and eating whatever she wanted to eat.

In her case we were back to insuring good health at that chosen weight by insuring that what she typically ate included balanced nutrition with not only vitamins and minerals but also the essential fatty acids (originally called Vitamin F1 and Vitaminn F2) as well as the essential amino acids. Recording progress....

While checking your weight regularly is useful, I recommend that a weekly check at the same time of the day each week is adequate weight monitoring.

In weight loss the body will hit plateaus where it may seem that no progress is being made. We are much more likely to feel that way and worry about our progress, if we are constantly checking our weight for every small gain and loss. Keeping weekly entries, and remarking on any times we "fall off the wagon"....and climb back on, will help to interpret notable changes.

Following a sound regimen faithfully will insure the desired progress toward the weight loss goal and target date.

Love your advice. Every time is see , lost 10 pounds in 10 days advertisements I get angry.

Slow, easy and healthy is always the best way to assure the weight will stay off.

Thanks for the tips. I stay away from scales because they cause stress on my end. Maybe once every 6 months I'll weigh myself at a department store to make sure I haven't gained a bunch of weight (or lost too much)

DealForALiving - That makes it sound as if you haven't yet set a goal you are working on. If that is because you are already at a healthy weight and are simply maintaining, fine. Otherwise, when the day comes that you are willing to make the small sacrifices that will lead you steadily to a healthy BMI, you will be launched toward a healthier, happier, longer life of your own doing, Whichever the case is, you are already looking for the info. to maintain or move in that direction, and that's a real step onward. Congratulations.

Good work, vocal coach! You'll know when your weight is right, as you'll feel it. I have been pretty much a vegetarian for years, and I have never felt so good. I added probiotic yogurt to the mix, and I no longer crave sweets. This is truly success.
