Touching Is Good For Your Health

Updated on January 9, 2011

The good majority of us like being touched. At least, by someone we care about. Did you know that being touched is actually good for your health? Funny right. Whether you're petting your dog, having sex, hugging a loved one or getting a massage-- you're not only enjoying pleasure, but also doing your body good. So don't be a touchaphobe, get out there and let yourself be touched! Your body will thank you.

Touching Is Good For Your Health

1. Go pet Fido!

Did you know that petting your dog (especially one that you love) is actually proven to lower blood pressure? Crazy huh? I'm totally guilty of this. One of my dogs (MY dog) cuddles with me all the time. Hes a pitbull, and constantly cold due to the fact that he doesn't have that thick of furr. Who knew I was actually lowering my blood pressure in the process.

2. Go Hug Someone!

Hugging raises the ammount of oxytocin in our brains. Oxytocin is named as the "bonding hormone". When it is secreted, it causes you to feel safe and secure. You know that good feeling you get after you hug someone you care about? It isn't a coicidence. Hugging allows people to fee safe, and secure.

3. Go get a massage

Believe it or not, massages are actually great for your stress level. Anyone whose had a massage knows that afterwards they feel far less tense. Massages are actually noted to bring down your level of stress. Not only do they feel amazing, but they also calm your nerves. Great stress management, eh?

4. Have sex!

Having sex does two important things for our bodies: secretes oxytocin into the brain, and releases endorphins. It has also been noted that intercourse may make you less likely to get sick. That old saying about having sex when you have a head ache is actually true. Its a natural asprin, in a sense. An orgasm calms your nerves and body, and often rids you of your head ache. Yet another reason to get laid, awesome.

It is true, some people just don't like physical cotanct. However these people are missing out on some great health advantages. Do all of them, and your body is sure to thank you. If you aren't in the mood to get some touching action from another person, at least buy a puppy. He will make an excellent cuddling partner, and he won't talk back. Touching Is Good For Your Health!
