The neurotransmitters in the brain are in charge of the way how we behave and how we feel. A deficiency of these neurotransmitters usually leads to behavioral problems both in small children and in adults . Neurotransmitters are derived from proteins that we get through diet. Insufficient protein intake can lead to deficiency of neurotransmitters and that can in some cases be seen as apathy, inability to concentrate, lethargy, reduction of curiosity and issues in sleeping. These are all symptoms of disorder that is called an ADHD. It is very typical that children diagnosed with ADHD are already born with neurotransmitter deficiency and that their bodies are not able to produce neurotransmitters effectively.

So the question arises how to increase the amount of neurotransmitters to fix the deficiency and thus allowing the body to work correctly? This is where supplemental amino acids can provide help. But often there is a need to boost up amino acid intake with amino acid supplementation so that the amount of neurotransmitters can effectively be increased. At his point it is essential to notice that ADHD drugs don't promote manufacturing of neurotransmitters. ADHD prescription drugs only handle and take care of ADHD signs and symptoms. Therefore, to restore the stability in mood and behavior of the person with ADHD, increased neurotransmitter production is required.

Nowadays, amino acids are actually on the list of proper ADHD treatments (together with prescription drugs). At least following amino acids are commonly used as supplements to treat children and adults with ADHD, to promote neurotransmitter creation of the brain cells.

GABA or gamma-amino butyric acid is essential for the proper functioning of the brain. Studies show that children with ADHD who take gamma-amino butyric nutritional supplements have shown reduced levels of stress. The dosage of GABA nutritional supplements differs based on the age, excess fat and severity of their ADHD.

L-Glutamine is another amino acid supplement that helps to keep balanced mind. Glutamine is also the amino acid in charge of memory and focus. Blood tests of children with ADHD often show deficiency of glutamine, but supplementation with glutamine have remarkably relieved ADHD symptoms in these children.

Tyrosine is a non-essential amino acid that the body can manufacture on its own. The main role of tyrosine is to act as a chemical messenger in the brain. L-tyrosine is a well-known help in fight against melancholy and mood swings in children with ADHD.

Lastly, Glycine is used throughout the body to build proteins. Glycine is proven to be essential for neuron power and efficient functioning of the brain. Glycine supplementation is said to lessen the nervousness and irritability in ADHD children.
