What Is Sporidex?

Sporidex is a popular brand name of the antibiotic cephalexin which is commonly-prescribed and well-tolerated by most patients. Sporidex is a cephalosporin-class antibiotic with broad-spectrum antibacterial activity. Since it is a first generation cephalosporin, however, some bacteria are now resistant to it.

Generally it is a commonly prescribed and well-tolerated antibiotic. In some cases, however, it can cause severe allergic reactions, diarrhea, or stomach upset.

It comes in 250mg and 500mg doses (Sporidex 250 and Sporidex 500).

It's worth noting that antibiotics will not work for colds, the flu, or other viral infections.

Uses of Sporidex

Sporidex is used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria such as pneumonia and bone, ear, skin, and urinary tract infections which do not respond to other drugs or which occur in pregnancy. It can also be used for respiratory-tract infections, middle ear infections, sinus infection, and skin infections.

It is available as oral tablets, capsules, and liquids, the form which is usually used in children. However, it is typically not available in intravenous form.

It is not known to be harmful during pregnancy and breast-feeding and is commonly prescribed in pregnant women and nursing mothers.

Precautions and Warnings Before Taking Sporidex

Before taking Sporidex, your doctor needs to know if you have had previous allergic reactions to cephalosporin-class antibiotics. In addition, he or she will need to know if you have liver or kidney disease.
