It's time to decide, How can I be more healthy?

Have you ever looked into a mirror as you were passing by, and finally noticed that you had put on too many extra pounds? Your family had been commenting to you about your weight gain, and your husband strongly suggested that you might think about going on a diet to lose a few pounds. Even your children had been making embarrassing remarks lately.

Up to this point, however, you were in denial about the number of pounds that you had actually gained, and you did not consider going on any diet to shed the extra weight. Now with everyone criticizing your appearance and letting you know that you don’t look as good as you did, you make the decision that possibly it is time for you to work on shedding a few of those extra pounds that have crept up over time.

Losing weight is a great effort and a difficult task for many of us, unfortunately. We become discouraged when it takes so long to make the progress we think that we should be making in our attempt to reach our desired goals. That causes us to just give up, resulting in more weight gain.

The most important factor to consider before you begin any type of diet plan is who is the person that you really want to lose the weight for. The only right reason is because you want to do it for yourself. If you are doing it for your family, husband, or children, you will not be as motivated to lose the weight and reach your goal over a long term period. You will be apt to fail in your endeavor and go back into denial that a loss of weight is actually necessary for your physical and emotional well-being.

Keeping your self motivated

Since losing weight can be and usually is difficult, and it can take a long time to achieve your goal, the attempt often causes one to become discouraged and disheartened. We are a generation that desires instant results and instant gratification, and when we do not get that “right now result” we tend to move on to try the next plan or product, hoping that will be the one that produces the results that we hoped to achieve. However, sometimes instead of going from plan to plan hoping to get the desired results, we just give up completely. This holds true in the area of weight loss as well, and that’s the problem with weight loss because in most cases the results are slow but steady.

An important factor to assure success in any weight loss plan is keeping yourself motivated, whether you have ten extra pounds to lose, or one hundred. If your motivation decreases, the probability that your success at losing the weight will greatly decrease also since taking pounds off takes a lot of work and determination. You might think that it is just too hard to do, or it is taking so long, or you will never reach your goal with all the plateaus you keep hitting. There are any number of defeating thoughts that can come to mind and sabotage your efforts.

How then can you keep yourself motivated? I have found from experience what works for me the best is to start by setting the goal of the number of pounds that I want to lose. Then I set steps, or smaller goals to reach, if you will. That way I can think of success in reaching those, and find happiness when one is reached. The process of losing the weight is not such drudgery, and it does not appear so impossible when broken into smaller pieces like that. When each step is reached, treat yourself to something small that you wanted, but just have not gotten for yourself yet; Things like that book that you have wanted to get, that cologne that you are anxious to try, or those two lipsticks that you wish you had. Even the smallest thing can go a long way in keeping yourself motivated. Before you know it, you will have reached your goal. 

In conclusion

I have fought my weight ever since I had my kids, it goes up and down continuously. I used to get very discouraged. I have tried so many diets I should write a book.
