What Was She Thinking???

Susanne Eman

The Dr. Oz Show

Recently, Dr. Oz dedicated a portion of an episode to a woman whose goal was aimed to reach 1600+lbs. In case you haven't heard of him, Dr. Oz is a cardiothoracic surgeon who hosts a television program called The Dr.Oz Show to discuss medical and personal health issues. Along with his hosting, Dr. Oz offers people the aid to promote and better their healths. In logical individuals, the option of health advancement is an unforgettable gift, but for this one, it is absolutely unnecessary. Why? Because she is "healthy!" Why should a "healthy" person even question his/her health?

Susanne Eman

While many teenagers and young women are dying to be healthy, Susanne Eman has a goal very bizarre to the norm. She is proud. She is confident. She is "sexy." Eman is only 32 years old weighing 728 pounds! Her American Dream is not buying a house, nor having a stable job, nor being healthy. Her dream is to become the fattest woman in the world! For a first shot, she aims to weigh 1,600 pounds by age 42. If she makes it, Eman strives to test "it it's humanly possible to reach a ton."

Eman is an unemployed single-mother of two boys. She claims that she is "healthy" and doing phenomenally well. She asserts that she exercises by going for a "waddle" and doing stretches and exercises every day. Eman checks her sugar levels like a diabetic as well as her blood pressure weekly.

In order to maintain her weight, Eman consumes around 20,000 calories per day! If something happens to her, Eman says that she made agreements with her sister to take care of the kids. Even though her doctors insist that what she's doing is horrendous to her health, Eman is still tenacious to follow her dream.

So...Why is she doing this?

Well, for several reasons. First and foremost, Eman gets paid by men who enjoy seeing a woman's body augment with layers and layers of fat skin folds. The more she gains, the more she's paid; it's as simple as that! Eman has been ranked as a Super Size Big Beautiful Woman (SSBBW). SSBBW are online forums similar to ones of porn and sex, but the difference is that in these, obese women pose in seducing postures and places. Eman participates in such forums, and what makes her more determined to reach her goal is the desire for sex and love from ill-minded men.

On Dr.Oz's show, two of the men who pay Eman were interviewed. One of them said that he believes an obese woman's body is like "a work of art." The other claimed that he enjoyed looking at fat women since he was five years old. Even though Dr. Oz cautioned Eman that these guys will not support her even if a health catastrophe strikes her, Eman still nodded, smiled, and said "I'm fine."

Is there any psychology behind Eman's scenario?

Obviously, Eman has mental control over every single step she's taking, but when I read more information about her, I figured that Eman might be undergoing her whole weight-gain quest only to justify a discomfort of being fat. In the past, before deciding to become the fattest woman in the world, Eman did try to lose weight, but unfortunately, she wasn't able to maintain a diet. In psychology, there is something called the cognitive-dissonance theory. In simpler words this means: mental discomfort. So the thought of being fat, discomforted Eman, therefore, she decided to ease the discomfort by losing weight. When that didn't work for her, Eman decided to become the fattest woman in the world; and what removes the discomforting thoughts are the men who watch her and support her, the sex addiction, the money she procures, and finally the attention she's getting from all of us. In general, a normal human being tries his/her best to remove the dissonance (discomfort), and he/she will use phrases to justify the righteousness of actions. For Eman, she says: "The bigger I get, the better I feel. I feel more confident and sexy. Why shouldn't I push the limits and see how fat I can get and stay healthy?"

Anyhow, please do not assume that I am defending Eman's actions in any shape or form. But as I was reading about her past life, I thought about this theory and realized Eman's condition might be related to psychology.

It's hard to believe that someone would put her life at risk by deliberately gaining over 700 pounds and aiming for more. After watching the videos, I realize that there's a whole culture out there that I was unaware of - the fat fetish. As adults, people like Susanne have the right to do as they please, but I was really concerned about the unhealthy eating lifestyle that Susanne is teaching her children. This article was disturbing as well as very interesting.

You are absolutely right about this, Stephanie. Unfortunately, Susanne is very confident about what she's doing. I just hope that one day she will realize the extremity of her decision. Thanks for stopping by!

This is very sad. Her self-destructive behavior is no different than an alcoholic, drug addict, bulimic, etc. This woman is dying for attention. Pun intended.

I feel so sorry for her kids, because mom probably won't be around very long.

I agree with you, 2besure! It's very sad to see someone self-distructing themselves.

Karen, me too! It is really sad to see how slow death can approach a person while he/she is not realizing it! Thanks for stopping by!

She is afraid to put some effort into life. Its easier to eat then it is to eat healthier. She is setting an example to her children of giving up is the only way. i hope they manage to find the courage one day to fight for themselves.

this woman needs proffesional help, and fast!! people shouldn't just watch her kill her self without trying to help her. its amazing what people can do when they're so desparate to find there place in this world.

I dont really blame her because i know how frustrating it is when none of the diets ur trying is working!

i hope she snaps out of it soon!!

This behavior is not different from a drugs or alcohol addiction, or any other self-destructive behavior. This person need a help to undestand the deep reason that it leading her to this point.

Thanks for sharing!

soulunique, you are right about motivation and how one shouldn't simply give up. Thanks for your comment!

Nada, I absolutely agree with you! I think that someone should step in and help, but the thing is that Eman refuses to. Anyhow, thanks for stopping by!

Health problems aside, it must feel horrible to be so heavy! She must have so much trouble walking, doing chores, tying her shoes! And if she reaches her goal, she will be bedridden. Fascinating story, but so weird!

I completely agree with you, Dolores. It saddens me to see someone killing themselves in such a horrifying way. Thanks a lot for stopping by, the comment, and the follow!

Really I think it should be illegal, especially men paying her to kill herself, it is past absurd. It is interesting though.

She is in complete denial. How can anyone say that be that heavy makes them happy. Health problems aside, just doing every day normal activities like walking, playing with her children, taking a shower, or just doing every day chores must be difficult. It's sad to see that people put themselves in a position for 15 minutes of fame and/or attention. May she realize someday and get help.

I really do hope that someday she will get a wake-up call, but still it might be too late already! Thanks a bunch for stopping by :)

Thanks for an extremely informative hub. I am going to add Susanne Eman to my prayer list. I have learned over the years that I cannot change or fix people. Only God can do that. I will surrender her to God every morning when I pray. I believe the greatest gift in the world is peace of mind. My perception is that Susanne does not have that. But the Light of the world is stronger than any advice I, or anyone else, could ever give this poor woman. Blessings, Sparklea :)

You know, Sparklea, I have received so many comments on this hub about how ill-minded Susanne Eman is and such, but your comment was certainly one of a kind. I totally agree with you that perhaps no one can change people except God. I really appreaciate your follow, comment, and visit to my page! Blessings to you as well :)

I DID SEE THE SHOW ON T.V....WHERE IS SOCIAL SERVICES? I THINK SHE IS SETTING A BAD EXAMPLE FOR THE KID'S AND SHE CANNT BE KEEPING HER HOUSE CLEAN AND SO FORTH.....WHO TIES HER SHOES AND DOES EVERYTHING...I BET THE BOYS ARE DOING IT.....CAUSE SHE DIDN'T LOOK TO CLEAN TO ME ......IT IS A SHAME TO HAVE TO PUT YOUR KIDS THREW SOMETHING LIKE THIS FOR YOUR OWN BENIFIT----ASHAME-------

Hey Linda, unfortunately social services are not notified when they actually need to be notified. I am very disappointed in Susanne Eman's mental mind-set about her condition and do certainly hope that one day she will get a wake up call and start turning her attention to her kids. Thanks for the comment :)

What a tragic and very sad story. I think her psychological problems are very complex. First, I think she is seeking attention. Secondly, I wonder if she feels that because she has had serious weight problem to begin with, that perhaps she felt hopeless, worthless, and that there was no hope to get positive love and affection and attention she desired. This is one way she may think she can get all those things. Her children deserve to have a mother. She claims to be healthy, but she cannot even walk through the grocery store. She can't walk around the block. The horrid food she eats WILL catch up to her and her children deserve better and more healthy meals.

Lambservant, I agree with every single word you said. It is very tragic that such mentality exists not only in her, but in a very large community that she is part of. Thanks a lot for stopping by my hub, and I hope that one day Eman will get a wake up call.

After reading this hub I have to say I am flabbergasted. I'm not saying everyone should be as thin as a stick but a nice healthy shape and size are surely best. I'm not perfect either but I don't obsess about losing weight. However, the thought of showing my flab to the world would make me feel very uncomfortable. I find it hard to imagine looking at folds of fat can be deemed sexy or make someone feel sexually aroused. It does the complete opposite to me and that's just looking at my own. I would go out of my way to avoid having to see that. What's funny is will she be able to sue these same men in 5 years times when she's sick and dying because they paid her more for gaining weight?

In african culture a big woman was a sign of wealth. It meant she had enough food etc. However, that's really not a measurement of success in the Western world is it?
