What a cold is?

Ther is a common joke about cold.  A doctor who tells a patient who has cold: “if you only had pneumonia, I could cure you”. It is a mysterious affliction that man has to bear apart it is very annoying. In the United States, more than 90 per cent of the population get cold, every year. But half of them get cold many times during the year. The symptoms of cold are well known to us.  Threre is a running nose, one sneezes a lot.  Another is a sore or tickling throat and occasionally a headache.  Finally a cough or fever may develop.

A cold is seldom serious in the case of an adult. In children, the cold symptoms may be of more serious childhood diseases. These may be measles, diphtheria and like, For this reason colds in children should have prompt and priority medical attention.

Normally it takes one of three days to develop cold. There are three stages of common cold. The first is the ‘dry’ stage andhas a short spell. The nose becomes dry and eyes may be watery a bit. The second stage is marked by ‘running nose. The final stage is that of a really running nose accompanied with fever and cough.

What is the great mystery about common colds, what it is, and what causes it? we describe it as an acute inflammation of upper respiratory tract. Only knowing this not enough. Medical science does know the specific cause.

Infection is caused by a virus. There is a strange thing the virus is probably in throat most of the time.  It is the resistance of the body which when lowered gives rise to attack by bacteria.  The virus of cold, weakens the tissues and other germs can infect them.

The best way to avoid cold is to the resistance high with good diet, plenty of rest and sleep, proper dress and avoiding contact with who have colds.
