specializes in diagnosing and treating
conditions or disorders the affect the liver and the related areas .
Usually a Gastroenterologist works with the Hepatologist
because the digestive system works in conjuction with the liver.

What certifications are needed for a Hepatologist?
- To become a Hepatologist you must complete 4 years of undergraduate
education, along with 4 years of medical school, and 3-8 years of internship
and residency training.
- Students will also complete clinical rotations in major medical discipline.
- Hepatologists then complete a fellowship in hepatology where they learn about variety of
conditions and treatments.
- All states require licensing and graduating from an accredited medical school and passing a license examination.
- Many Hepatologists become board certified from the American Board of Internal Medicine, they must also complete continual education on a regular basis to maintain their license and certification and stay up to date on advancement.
