What is your opinion about Assisted Suicide for the Terminally Ill?
What is your opinion about assisted suicide for the terminally ill? It is a very sensitive subject for many. Morally speaking a lot of people may think it is wrong to kill and that only God should have the power to take a life. However, there are others who think that people have a right to die with dignity and not to suffer.
So where do I stand? Well, I think unless a person is in extreme pain all the time and there is definitely nothing anyone can do to help them, we should not even consider assisted suicide. Life is valuable and should not be taken for granted. Even if someone asked me to help them kill themselves, I think I would have a lot of trouble agreeing to it. You always think about what ifs. You know what if they could be cured or what if it is not their time. There are just so many questions. How can you live with the guilt of taking a life?
Also, there are always the legality issues. How do you know the patient has really consented to being killed? Maybe they were murdered? Maybe someone was after their money or just did not like them very much? It is hard to know.
For those people who are religious murder is the ultimate sin. If they participate in assisted suicide they have to worry the rest of their life about going to hell after they die and also they have to worry about the soul of the deceased. After all, suicide is a sin as well. Is it really honorable to die early just because you cannot handle the pain and suffering of being ill?
