Wii Console and Wii Fit

The Wii console is a video game system made by Nintendo. It uses a motion sensor that attaches to the top of your TV. This sensor combined with sensors in the Wii remote detect your movements. This allows you to actively play games by using arm movements and maneuvers with the remotes. Talk about much more active game play! You can literally bowl, box, play tennis, and baseball with the Wii Sports package.

The Wii Fit is an add on that utilizes the console, remotes, and a balance board. This is a platform you stand on in front of your TV and allows the console and motion sensor to pick up your movements. The Wii Fit package includes this balance board and a game. Special packages may include other items as well. The balance board along with the motion sensor and remote allows for full body interaction in the games!

In case you don't know what the Wii is, now you do. Now you can understand a little better why so many people are using it combined with the Wii Fit to stay in shape. There are other Wii controllers and apparatuses out there, but these are the two we will mainly be looking at. Who wouldn't love to pop a game in every day to do their exercise routine? Much better than jumping on a treadmill or popping in the same old boring exercise dvd.

We'll be reviewing at some of the best Wii fitness games out there. There are several that can make you break a sweat and enjoy doing it. So time to play some games err....exercise I mean!

Wii Fitness Games-Walk It Out Demo

Walk It Out Review

Walk It Out can be played using just the console or with the balance board. Whatever you have works. This game is pretty mild but great fun! Walk It Out let's you explore an island and play mini games all while counting up calories you've burned. You can see a graph that shows your progress and what goals you're working towards. This game is great for getting in that daily walk while having fun, oh yeah and listening to music! It's rated for everyone and Amazon reviewers gave it 4.5/5 stars. Walk It Out would be a great game to begin with if you aren't used to exercise or only want mild exercise!

Wii Fitness Games- Just Dance 3 Demo

Just Dance 3 Review

This game only requires a Wii console to play. Every player needs a Wii remote though, so if you have mutliple players, better have plenty of remotes! I'm not much for dancing so I've not played this one, but I'm telling you it sure is entertaining to watch! Just Dance 3 is a very popular Wii fitness game that involves dancing (obviously ha ha!) and performing a variety of dance moves to popular songs. Play it very long and you'll be sweating for sure! Amazon users give it great reviews and say it's a lot of fun to play, with 4.6/5 stars.

This game includes a Just Sweat It Out mode that steps it up a notch and really focuses on fitness. In fact, several people can play this mode and work out together! Check out the Just Sweat It Out video to the right and see how much fun it is!

The Biggest Loser Challenge Demo For Wii

The Biggest Loser Challenge Review

Anyone a fan of the show will love this game! This game utilizes the Wii console, balance board, and controller, you must have all 3. Though it's pretty much tailored to weight loss and exercise of course, they have added some pretty awesome things to it. You can work out with Bob, or fly through space. You can work out with Jillian, or try to hit a fast ball of a major league baseball pitcher! Get instructions and advice through the whole game. Choose a mild routine or an advanced routine! You set your pace!

Enter in all your measurements before you begin and watch the weight melt off. You can even work out with a friend if you want. It's really a unique experience and approach to weight loss. If you watch the show, you'll want to try this game!

Punch Out Demo for Wii

Punch Out Review

Alright, this isn't really tailored to fitness but I couldn't help myself, I love this game! You don't need a balance board for this, just the Wii console, controller, and nunchuck (this comes with the console and remote). Punch out may not be one of the Wii fitness games to be exact, but it will give you a workout! This game had my whole upper body sore and I worked out playing this longer than I have to any other Wii game, fitness or not!

Punch Out is tailored right after the old nintendo version of the game, remember Wii is nintendo! The obvious difference is you actually stand up and box the big goofy looking opponents. You'll go round after round with these guys moving up through the tournament. You'll be swinging and punching wildly and your opponent will be laugh and taunting you! Some of the matches get pretty tough, and you'll be just aggravated enough to go one more round even though you can't feel your arms anymore!

This game really is one of the funnest I've played on the Wii. I could see a definite difference in my arms after playing for just a week. It doesn't give you a good full body workout, but it's great to play every once in awhile for an upper body workout!

Tips for Buying Wii Games

If you're in the market for new Wii games, be sure and comparison shop. Amazon offers new and used prices, plus lots of reviews on their products. Don't forget to check out your local stores for clearance games and add ons for the Wii as well! You can even go to flea markets or pawn shops and find good games at great prices. Remember though, these games might not be in excellent shape so buy at your own risk!

Be sure and check every Wii game you buy to see what the requirements are. Some may require a balance board and you'll be unable to play it if you don't have one! Buying a pack of extra batteries is always a good idea if you plan on playing your new game a lot!

My Opinion on Wii Fitness Games

After reading through the internet, there are several sites out there claiming that playing Wii fitness games or Xbox Kinect games have no benefit in helping you stay healthy. My personal opinion is it has to be better for you than sitting on the couch watching TV. If playing a game will get you up and moving instead of just sitting there thinking about working out, it's more than worth it. Doing something is always better than doing nothing any way you look at it!
