Easy Exercise For A Healthy Heart.
We all know that exercise is essential for maintaining healthy weight and keeping our energy levels high. If time and finances allow, we may head for the gym on a regular basis. Fortunately we can get adequate exercise without ever entering a gym. Walking, gardening, swimming, hiking and any sport, organized or not, can provide all the activity our bodies need. Ideally we should have thirty minutes of activity every day. This can be achieved by a brisk walk before or after work, or thirty minutes of whatever physical activity brings you pleasure.
There are many simple, yet beneficial, activities that you can incorporate into your day with little time and effort.
Never park close to your destination. Better still, leave your car at home and walk. Make sure you have adequate clothing so adverse weather cannot become an excuse.
Always take the stairs rather than elevators or escalators. If you tire easily, start with one flight only and gradually work up.
When you are talking on your cell phone, walk around, do knee lifts, or any other form of movement. For some, this will add a great deal of exercise to their day.
When watching television, get out of your chair as soon as an ad appears. Walk around, stretch, do knee lifts. Just get moving.
Start a garden. Gardening is a great form of exercise.
Some people like to walk alone with their thoughts. If you are not one of these, start a walking club. Pick up your speed.
Play outside with your children or your dog. If you have neither, volunteer for some organization that caters to children or walk your neighbors dog.
Plan for your weekend before it comes and make sure it involves a demanding physical activity such as hiking, cycling or a competitive sport.
Go for a brief walk in your lunch hour and after dinner.
Check out your neighborhood community center for activities such as yoga or Tai chi that you can try out for a minimal cost and might enjoy.
Meet your friends for a walk, rather than a coffee. Your body will thank you.
Dance while you prepare dinner. Laugh often. Adopt a positive attitude. The more your exercise the more you will enjoy it.
