I have had MANY dentist visits. When i was young i was very afraid also of the dentist. Here is what i discovered about my fear at the dentist office: Most visits to the dentist office are OVER within an hour or so. So I look at my watch and think, "this will be over soon." and that helped me at first. Later i discovered that the dentist almost never really hurts me, but his noises and tools SCARED me mostly. So i had to overcome FEAR not PAIN. Actually the pain of a BAD TOOTH hurts much more than dentist visits. Root canal procedures i have had several. It did not hurt, but once or twice during the procedure i felt only a little slightly, but not really painfull. Go to a dentist that someone recommends... not just any dentist out of the phonebook. This way, you will more likely get a dentist that you will not have surprises. Once i went to a dentist my mother picked randomly out of the phone book. He was like some guy from the Old West. His office was in his FRONT ROOM of his house! . His instruments were in his DESK DRAWER! He had an X-ray out of the civil-war era. He didn't hurt me but he did sub standard work that the next dentist had to fix. Just ask friends and family if their dentist is patient... doesn't hurt them... etc.. and you will feel less fearfull in the chair. It is FEAR you must overcome not PAIN. The longer you wait the worse the tooth gets. If it gets infected/abcessed then it will be weeks of delay. If you wait too long, dont worry about the root canal. They will have to PULL IT if you wait too long. Not painfull either, but more scary and you loose a tooth.
