Do you feel that our society is too fast-paced?

Seems like everyone is in a rush.  Seems like people get uptight just because email is not responded to within the same hour.  Seems like people drive as if the are in a competition jockeying for first to get there.

Do you think everyone should slow down?

I think it wouldn't hurt to slow down a bit for sure. Just the other day, I recalled the good ole days when one would go out for a brisk walk, and get some alone time (minus the cell phone). Some folks today actually get offended if you're not available, even for a short time! This is not good IMHO. This is why it's important for all of us to have a bit of down time.

Yes. People are always moving, always going somewhere, constantly getting upset at people for getting in their way of progress. What if life isn't about progress? What happened to enjoyment or purpose? Take a moment to breathe, relax. Read a book that you enjoy. Do something that will calm you instead of following the stressful life of the typical American.

I do not think that our society is too fast-paced. That said I do think that we are not preparing everyone in our society to cope with the speed at which our society moves.

    Hello, BlissfulWriter,
Unfortunately all you said is true and represents very well the society we live in today.
They all run and end up without much time to notice the beautiful things in the world, the beautiful scenery and even better know your friends or your family.
Sure, everyone would like to slow down a little, but they are required by work, school, home, kids and need to run to account for all activities.
Like you, I'm rooting for that someday this might happen ...
    Cheers

Definitely!  I feel like I just don't get to spend enough time with the people that really matter, my family!  Why are we at work or rushing to work most of our lives?!  sad  Most people only have 2 days off per week.  Really?!  And we need to catch up so many things that we don't relax during those two days either! sad

It does seem that people are in a rush. Funny you ask this question. Last night, me and my fiance were driving home from the store and I apparently took the long way home. He asked why does it matter, are we in a rush. And he stepped back and thought about my question and realized that we were not in a rush. We can relax sometimes.

I don't know that we are fast-paced in the sense that we are moving forward quickly. Most people seem to be busy all the time, but just going around in circles, not getting anywhere. I think we need to be quieter, to take more space to ourselves - not be filling every minute of the day with activity that takes us nowhere...

To answer your question -- yes, I do think our society is too fast paced in some areas, but other areas... too slow. There must be a balance.
