Do you know anyone with MS (Multiple Sclerosis)?

If so, how did they find out? What were their symptoms?

i know two folks with MS. one started with recurrent urinary tract infections. she was diagnosed when she also later developed balance problems. the other has walking problems.

often the first symptom is a vision problem. MS is considered as a diagnosis when a person has at least two nervous system problems separated by time and space.

Yes, that's exactly what happened to me during my diagnosis.

Not p[ersonally, but I do hear that it gets increasingly painful over the years so much that it becomes unbearable.

Very damaging for those people unfortunate to have that particular type of MS.

My mother was diagnosed with MS in early 2005.  She started to know that something was wrong in late 2004 when she kept tripping and falling over small (an inch or less) elevation changes in the sidewalk.  The cuts and bruises she got from these falls seemed disproportionately large to the type of falls she had.

After several frustrating doctor visits her primary care doctor sent her to a neurologist who did a lot of testing and figured out she had MS.

In my research I read that up to 10% of MS patients have the intellect nerves become damaged and they might get dementia as a result of the MS.  During my senior year of high school 2001-2002 my mom developed a habit of talking to herself without realizing that she was talking to herself.  At the time I thought it was bizarre and chalked it up to stress over her only child about to leave the nest.  Now I wonder if that could have been her first sign of MS.  The good news is the talking to herself stopped once the doctors figured out the right MS medication dosage for her.

Thanks for the information everyone. It is very interesting to hear that UTIs are a sign of MS. Never heard that before.

I do know a person with multiple sclerosis and I have know him since we were both diagnosed around the same time,  some 30 years ago.

Unfortunately, my friends condition has deteriorated to the point where he is now around 90% disabled whereas I, on the other hand,  have been able to self-rehabilitate myself to around 90% of my pre-diagnosed condition.

Quite eerie really and almost totally opposite in each others conditions.

yes, I do (i.e. I have relapsing remitting MS). I have a bunch of blogs on the subject and would be happy to answer any questions you have about it. I was diagnosed in 1995 but am sure I was born with it.
