There are a variety of causes for varicose veins and many treatments both mechanical and nutritional. I think the major cause is Hereditary; poor circulation and standing for hours on hard surfaces can also contribute to them. A mechanical fix that is suppose to be good, is progressive compression hose. However, I personally don't like them , if the tops fit just below the knee they have a tendency to bind and cut off the circulation, which then is counter-effective. My belief being, that can damage the valves in the leg veins that prevents the blood from flowing back down. The destruction of those valves is the major cause of the appearance of varicose veins. Since I am in the Nutritional business, I prefer good nutrition.... Products which nourish and strenghthen the veins, stimulate the circulatory system and keep your cholesterol level in check. Other factors, overweight, constipation and lack of exercise can be causal. The favorable exercise recommendation is walking an hour a day. There are an abundance of Nutritionals that are recommended; the list is to long to include herein!
