There are depressing aspects to life, so depression is not necessarily unusual! And so many anti-depressants seem to have side effects that are worse than the condition, so if it is not a so-called clinical depression, then it is a matter of figuring out the natural remedies that work for you.
I think that is one of the challenges in our lives: figuring out our specific expressions of joy and sorrow.
If you're a creative person, try to make it work for you. It doesn't matter if the artwork is dark or the music is gloomy if it purges the depression.
Or you could have opposites day: make yourself take a depressing thought and convert it into something happy.
If you consume too much sugar in your daily eating, then your system may be going through sugar rises and crashes, which are often expressed as depression. It may sound silly, but please make sure that you are drinking enough water. There are a lot of dehydrated people out there, and dehydration affects thinking and outlook.
Gentle exercise such as daily walks are good.
What about meditation? It doesn't have to be spiritual. Meditation is a clearing of the mind.
