it depends on the kind of exhaustion you are experiencing. Physical exhaustion can easily put you to sleep as opposed to emotion exhaustion which increases your anxiety and stress thus you cannot sleep.

Sometimes when a person is physically exhausted, they are also mentally exhausted and the mind needs to relax and let go of the events of the day especially if it was a stressful one before the person can fall asleep.

I once asked this same question. Then I learned that  deinition of exhausted is fatigue that results in discomfort. Then it made sense that it is difficult to sleep because you are not comfortable.

When w are exhausted our mind is not stable and cant thing systematically, it needs rests. And for sleeping also we need some mental energy to concentrate for sleeping, which doesn't happens as mind does not give proper signals to us.And we remain sleepy. but cant sleep.

It is the physical exhaustion that can lead you to sleep like a puppy but, if mentally exhausted; one gotta keep the mind at peace prior to going to bed 'cause it could take u miles around the globe even though you are physically rested smile

When your body has been over worked it accesses your fat cells to produce energy this sometimes can lead to over restlessness due to a high increase in energy. If you have trouble sleeping go to your local pharmacy and ask for the vitamin Melatonin, this vitamin is natural and promotes sleep.
