It depends on the child and their age, I think.
Babies can sleep a lot during the day and still sleep through the night.
As they get older they can still nap in the day and sleep at night through til about age 5. After that we found it tended to interrupt their night time sleep, though plenty of people we knew still had kids that did.
Now they are a bit older, the one that used to sleep all day and all night always, always pings awake at 7am, however late they have been up the night before.
