    If the original thought addiction that cause the substance addiction is not treated then the person is sure to relapse.
    Understand that:
    "Every addiction starts with a thought and after sobriety is achieved then you are only left with the original thought that got you there."

    I don't believe a person has to relapse in order to recover but it happens.  Addiction usually means the person cannot stop on their own or simply by will. Most require help to understand the underlying reason for them turning to an activity or substance in the first place, what triggers a relapse, and how to avoid it.  It simply isn't an easy endeavor just to quit.  It's a serious struggle that I'd wish upon no one.
