    Can you go grey gracefully?

There is a new trend in hair colour that is silver . Does that mean that we can go grey gracefully?

I suppose it depends on your age.  I think a person who is young - 20 to 30 looks older with gray or silver hair.  I am 60 and I just let it be what it is.  I don't very often see dyed hair that looks natural and the upkeep is too much - nothing looks worse then a dark-haired woman with a gray part - or a blond woman with a black part.

So I will just let it stay salt and pepper and hope for the best and TRY to do it gracefully.

I agree with duffsmom, I think some women do make themselves look unattractive and in fact older by using hair colouring that doesn't match their age or colouring and some do have root re-growth that stands out a mile and looks shabby. On the other hand I've seen quite a number of women who are either going grey or have gone grey, they look after themselves well, are proud to be what they are - and they are beautiful!!! So yes, it's defiantely possible to go grey gracefully.

I think it depends on the individual and how he/she feels about going gray.

One of my husband's best friends dyes his hair all the time, he just cannot deal with the thought of being gray.  On the other hand, my husband, started gray hairs very early and is totally silver now.  Does not bother him, (nor I) at all!

To answer your question, there are those who go gray gracefully, without even thinking about it and those who do not.  These are the ones who dye their hair, or get it done professionally.

As for myself, a few years ago I had a few gray hairs, and I paid no attention.  They were not very noticeable, except in sunlight.  At that time, I changed hair dressers, went to a guy recommended by my sister.  I would always get a perm every six to eight months, so I asked him to give me a perm.

He looked at my hair, and he said, "I am not perming you!"  He COLORED it, and he kept it straight.  I was in shock!  But my friends and family love the color and style so much, I've just kept it since.  He does a great professional color job that I've stayed with him.

I had no intention of coloring my hair, but it's amazing how that perspective changed with just one hair appointment!

Thank you for your great question, shorty72~  Blessings, Sparklea smile

Friend...I'm 49....have been turning grey since 97.  My opinion, you're who you are because God made you that way.  You should be proud of how you look, you are his and he's happy with you, why change?  I'll grow old and grey happily for him.  If peeps don't like it, that's their problem right.....Be yourself, the rest will take care of itself!!  Hope that helps....God Bless

I believe that the best way to "go grey gracefully" is to just do it.

I started becoming "salt 'n pepper" in my late 20s, and as you can see in my photograph, at age 65 I am completely grey -- and I think it looks real cool on me.

However, it is a matter of choice, in my opinion.

If a person feels more comfortable hiding his/her grey, then he/she should just do it. And if a person is okay with being grey, or prefers to be that way, he/she should just do that, too.

Thus, it could be said that one's going grey gracefully comes down to how he/she feels about it in his/her mind.

No. Some women look good in silver hair. But it is a fashion statement like any other and will wane after a period of time.
