Is lifestyle modification, diet, and exercise the ultimate cure for obesity?
You should be a bit more specific before this question can be answered in a meaningful way. Diet and lifestyle modifications can mean thousand different things.
Diet as weight loss methods have horrible success rate (especially over long term). So we can say that they aren't good for weight loss. On the other hand diet and exercise, when done properly, are the only ways to sustainably lose weight.
So it all depends on what kind of diet and lifestyle changes you are talking about, and how they fit your life.
Obesity is a lifestyle on its own, proper nutrition and proper exercise are also a lifestyle of their own, a choice you have to make yourself.
In the end it's calories in and calories out-- obesity is caused by too many calories in and not enough calories out. Obviously, taking in less food ( fewer calories) and exercising more ( using more energy) is the ultimate cure for obesity. It is very simple in theory, the hard part is getting people to change and there is a whole, very profitable industry built around doing that.
The obesity pandemic is caused by the food industry which in turn feeds the fitness industry. The only way out is to eat real living food and lead a normal active life. Real living food is easy to define: Anything that has the shelf-life of organic fresh food. The decision is ours to make, each and every individual can change the world by his/her own actions. Boycott mass-produced meat, addictive foods, processed foods, beer and alcohol, hormone enhanced, full of artificial preservatives, genetically modified, sugared, and packaged for long shelf-life food. If our demand for the evil stuff disappears they might stop producing it? Boycott all the above, only eat real living food, preferably home grown, and lead a normal active life. Is that really so difficult?
I think that is the way to start and help current obesity. But unfortunately it is an uphill battle with the kinds of foods that are served everywhere. All of our food is so full of crap - hormones, and dyes, and preservatives that are killing us. It is a huge multi-faceted problem with no simple answer.
It is the best cure I know of but it probably would not work for everyone. I have not been obese but I know someone that is. If I had his habits it would not take very long for me to become obese. I try to maintain a healthy body and he basically does the opposite of what I do.
I think lifestyle modification, diet and exercise would cure some people. Diets work if you do the right diet. When I diet I reduce the amount of junk foods and drinks I consume and make sure my meals are healthy.
You can not force people to make changes like that. Most likely the obese person already knows how to cure themselves but chooses not to or has another problem that is stopping them.
Yes. It's also the cure for many diseases and chronic illness.
I never had a weight issue, but I was still diagnosed with cancer, with no family history of the disease. I managed to rebuild my immune system primarily through diet changes.
You know it!
nutrition accounts for 80% of your weight loss plan, meanwhile you need to exercise, drop your bad habits, and burn more calories than you eat.
Yes...that is the ultimate cure. Excessive calories and a lack of exercise obviously will lead to obesity. A lifestyle modification consisting of an adequate diet and proper exercise, including rethinking the way a person thinks about food, is all necessary to ward off obesity. This is also good for preventing certain diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol level, and heart disease.
I've heard that obesity is also caused by certain medications, or if there is a problem with the thyroid gland. To what degree of truth this is, I'm unsure.

There are conditions/disorders that can cause weight gain, but there are also lifestyle changes that come with them and control it. In my opinion obesity basically comes down to bad habits, bad choices and laziness. What are everyone's thoughts on this?
