Yes, I have had Tinnitus for years also. It is manageable for me. I hear it now, when I focus on the subject, as a high-pitched tone. It is always there.
Recently a doctor referred me to a specialist here in Germany, an audiologist. He tested my hearing and had the same results that came from an American audiologist, which is that I hear in an unusually broad range, especially in the high tones. The German audiologist summed it up by saying, 'Your hearing is great! It is just that, you hear too much.'
The benefit was that the highly sensitive hearing was enough to excuse me from an otherwise required Deutsch language course.
Another respondent to your question wrote, 'Though I also have sensitive hearing and sometimes when too many sounds are present, it just adds to the cacophony and I hear nothing but a steady stream of noise.'
Ah, sensitive hearing. It has had such an impact on my life. I wrote a hub on HSP - Highly Sensitive People.
So far as I know, there has been no substantial cure or remedy for Tinnitus. Like for snoring, there are many approaches offered but I think a fairly low success rate. Tinnitus was a major irritation for my dad. He went the way of a high-priced device in the ears. In the end, he just learned to live with the ringing in the ears.
I join others in wishing you the best on your quest.
