I think the main ones for garlic - although I'm sure there are a few others - is keeping the circulatory system, the blood and the heart healthy.

My granny used to eat raw garlic cloves like candy. She said it kept away colds and flu and kept her heart healthy. She did live to be 90.

mainly for the heart is what i've heard ... best way to have it is to use freshly chopped garlic... i also read somewhere that there is a chemical reaction that goes on as soon as it's chopped or chewed which is the perfect time to consume/add to food. The garlic paste we get in stores is actually not very beneficial to the body.

Better digestion aswell I believe. It was one of the things recommended to me by my GP.

Oh, and of course colds. Theres some sort of tonic that can be made with garlic, that you gargle and help relieve yourself of throat infections and just your general sore throat. I saw it in a "relive the victorian age" pharmacy show. It wasn't all that good if my memory serves me.

Garlic that is being consumed raw has the benefit as mentioned by seeker7. Once it has been processed, the effect will not be there any more. So, remember to consume it raw to have the benefit.

Garlic is a natural antibiotic, great antioxidants and  superfood: contains polyphenols that fight cancer, lower blood pressure, helps cold & flu etc. Garlic should be taken raw and 5 minutes after you chop the garlic in fine pieces.
