Can I Use Laxatives To Lose Weight?

No. If you have constipation there are plenty of natural methods. You can look at my hub about the subject. To loose weight just don't think about it. Live a normal, healthy life and don't think about it, don't follow the obsessions that society imposes on us. Once free of the worry about weight, you will find your ideal weight automatically, let your body use its healing powers. You'll be ok.

Everyone has the knowledge on "how to be healthy" and if you ask anyone they can probably give you a adequate "healthy" response on how to lose weight.  Using pills/laxs to lose weight however is not a healthy way to lose weight and losing a lot of weight in a short period of time is unhealthy.

Laxatives can make you dehydrated and if taken in large enough amounts can stop nutrients from being absorbed. Pills are not even worth it.

Do not use laxatives to lose weight. As others have said, that can cause dehydration and malabsorption- even the use of natural laxative agents. The long term use- or misuse, rather- of any remedy meant for a short term problem like constipation is not good for your health and will not result in the healthy body you should want.

If you are really serious about losing weight, consult a personal trainer and/or nutritionist. If eating right and the right amounts and kinds of exercise aren't resulting in the weight loss you want, that most likely is your body's way of saying it's just right the way it is. If you still think you need to lose weight, consult a doctor. There could be underlying problems ranging from hypothyroidism to perhaps a body image issue that could lead to an eating disorder.

Why would you want to is a better question. Do you really want that sense of urgency, possible leakage? Seriously. Would you want to be at a party, take a bite of something and then have to run to a bathroom? Really? It's not worth it. Make a commitment to yourself to get healthy. Eat right. Drink water. Get up off the couch. Treat yourself like you're a queen/king, you deserve it.

Laxatives would definitely help you in losing weight. But, the bad thing about this is your colon would be overworked. As the saying goes, too much of anything is never good.

You don't need anything like that.  They are very bad for you if used over extended periods

Laxatives are harmful to your colon and other digestive organs.  In addition, they work by removing both fluids and feces.  Doing so, they leach electrolytes from your body and set the body up for dehydration.  Dehydration, even at a minimal level, wreaks havoc on the body.  More importantly, the lack of electrolytes can be injurous to your heart as well as other vital organs.  Lastly, if you think that using laxatives to lose weight is a good option, keep in mind that diets with an outcome goal of losing weight DO NOT WORK.  You may successfully lose weight but you have not created any good habits that will enable you to keep it off.  In studies, 35% of people who lost weight through a diet gained it back within one year.  Close to 100% gained it back in 3-5 years.  Do yourself a favor and slowly add new healthy habits that increase activity and correct eating habits.  You have all the time in the world to change your life.  In addition, every new healthy life change that you make will add even more time to your life.  Take care of yourself and be healthy.

I agree with other answers here that laxatives are very harmful if used for anything than their intended purpose, especially if used over extended periods.

Additionally, perhaps the greatest motivator to resort to using laxatives to lose weight (or resort to anything unhealthy) is that feeling of desperation. Desperate to lose weight because it seems so overwhelming to address, with feelings about being unsure that one can do it.

Addressing that desperate feeling will go a long way in helping you to choose a sane, rational, healthy course of action, that will keep those desperate feelings away, and empower you with knowledge and experience to manage what you once thought was too overwhelming.

The best way I know of to relieve desperate feelings of how to lose weight is to realize that there are several very healthy, very successful plans for losing weight, and you have very good options of choosing things that absolutely will work, and empower you to be successful.

So the odds are stacked in FAVOR of you losing weight, AND retaining your health, when you look at it from this angle, instead of feeling overwhelmed and desperate.

Dude. I'm pretty sure this is how a lot of eating disorders begin. Why don't you head over to GNC, get some fat burners, exercise, and eat healthy and the weight will melt of of ya like butta. Losing weight is overrated anyhow. Check out my hub...You're not fat, you're just jolly....

My answer is a definite no. There are so many side effects on using laxatives to lose weight. You may have  dizziness, headaches, body weakness and in some worst scenario, dehydration which may lead to even more undesirable symptoms.

The best way to lose weight is to have many small meals and cut down on carbohydrates, eat plenty of fruits and vegetables high in fiber, have plenty of sleep and exercise at least 3 times a week.

Also try to cut down or avoid junk food.

Using Laxatives to lose weight is very dangerous. If you are finding that your system is not flushing the way it needs to, consider getting a good quality soluble / insoluble fiber blend. Take it in the AM and PM. Pair with that Calm Magnesium. Fiber and Magnesium are like hand in glove. You will find your system flushing more and your weight balancing out.

It is also going to be a good idea for you to consider drinking more water and really focusing on higher quality foods. And, if you indulge, lay off the sodas, coffee and sugared drinks.

I would be more than happy to provide more suggestions to you. What is your intention - to loose weight or sizes.

Check out my website, you may find the BodyMagic and Arydss nutritional line beneficial for you.

Laxatives deal with BM's not weight loss ...(ought to be careful with them too).
Consume plenty of green fruits and vegetables, water, limit sugar/fat intake, brown rice/whole wheat pasta /cereal and maybe do some exercises!
    Good luck!

To answer the question as it was asked without any other added information for which you didn't ask: the answer to your question is technically "Yes".

Laxatives are not helpful in losing weight.  A natural fiber such as psyillium husks can help you feel full and will keep your system cleaned out if taken before meals.

If you want to lose weight by cleansing your body, I highly recommend you look into a 2 to 4 week colon cleanse product that you can find at health food stores or nutrition supplement stores such as GNC. This will get the built up stool out of your body (poop can build up for years in your intestines) and thus cause you to lose that excess weight that the built up stool was causing, as well as, give you a flatter stomach.

It is actually recommended by professionals to cleanse your colon every 6 months to keep your system healthy.

If you are serious about losing weight, I highly recommend the program that I talk about in my Hub on reviewing the Hollywood 48 hour diet. The diet system I introduce allows you to eat all of your favorite foods. It designs a customized meal plan, equipped with grocery list and everything, that is specifically tailored to you and the foods you like. It is an incredible system and I highly suggest you check it out.

Eat right and exercise. Get a trainer and a nutritionist if you need help.  There is just no other way. Once you come to terms with that, you will be a lot better off. Pills and Potions are just a way to make yourself sick.

    HI ngureco big_smile..
I don't recommend it.  Eat lots salads, apples, high fiber foods and drink lots of water.  Lots of exercising, dancing, aerobics can help if you can do all these if possible all of these in a hour or close to it is how to get in shape and help your heart rate.  You may have burned a thousand calories possible by doing the above activities. Always mix your exercise routine a little.  Be festive.

Also, eat your meals in smaller portions.  Burning them off is the key.  Cut back on carb.ed foods they give you energy however too much can get you fat also.  Also avoid diet pills.  They too can get you sick.  Or worse.
Happy New Year to all..  good luck with your health..

Don't try it. Do proper exercise, take fruits and vegitables to clean up your sytem; this will keep your body free from those things that cause execess weight. Avoid foods that add to your weight. Also engage in fasing and prayer.

yeah you can but you have to aware of all the changes and all the medical facts. "Regular use of stimulant laxatives-such as Correctol, Dulcolax, Ex-Lax, Feen-a-Mint, or Senokot-may change your body's ability to absorb of vitamin D and calcium. This can cause weakening of your bones" Your body can become dependent on it If you start laxitives and decide to stop one day it can harm you. so if you do use it drink lots of water or liquids with them. dont over do it.

The best way to lose weight is to eat right and exercise.  Do not start messing with laxatives or anything that is unnatural for your body.  It can cause long term problems.  Do things the right way and enjoy the results.

Why dehydrate when you can exercise? It is not as fast, but it is safer and more lasting.

Absolutely not! Quit looking for the quick fix.  Change your life.  Get rid of ALL processed, sugary, and fatty foods and replace them with vegetables, fruits, lean meats and fish.  Get some exercise a few days a week.  This is sustainable weight loss.  If you lose weight with laxatives you'll gain that weight right back as soon as you stop (not to mention whatever damage you're doing to  your body by taking them).

I would really advise you not to do so. It is very unhealthy and there is no evidence that laxatives actually help with weight loss.

To lose weight, you would have to reduce your calories intake by eating less and/or burn more calories though exercise and movement.

I have tons of hubs to help you lose weight, check it out.

It is possible to loose weight by doing a bowel cleanse for a maximum of three months and by eliminating gluten and dairy from your diet. Also, eat lots of vegetables, only two pieces of fresh fluid a day and select foods high in fiber and low in calories to facilitate the release of toxins stored in the intestine. I have lost 6 pounds this way.

No, you shouldn't use laxatives to loose weight and it wouldn't help either. There are medical conditions where symptoms include severe diarrhea (people suffering become quite laxated) and what happens is that they dehydrate severely and if not treated correctly they die.

You loose weight by reducing high sugar and fat foods in your diet permanently and begin to exercise regularly. You can boost your calorie burning with a fat burner. I highly recommend you this one:
