    Are You Happy?

    Hi NicholasA,

I just read your hub on happiness.  Very well written.  Your question here is not "how to be happy", but am I happy.  I try to be as happy as I can possibly be; ever mindful of its positive effect on my life.  At my age after 60, I am very conscious of maintaining good health at all times.  One of the key factors that help us to maintain good health is a relaxed and happy frame of mind.  Of course there are those who are fortunate enough to be happy all the time with favorable conditions.  But I don't think most of us are that fortunate.  There will always be some factors or conditions that make our lives less happy.  That brings us to the most important decision in life.  We have a choice.  To be happy or to wallow in unhappiness all our lives?  It is inevitable to experience bouts of unhappiness, but we must choose to feel happy most of the time.  At the very least, to be in equanimity in times of unhappiness.

Read your Aikido hubs as well.  I practised Aikido when I was a young boy way back in the 60s.

not sure why someone voted you down, but your answer makes sense.  Happiness is a choice - not an attainment.

      Hi ChristinS,
Thanks for pointing out the vote down, otherwise I would not have noticed.
Don't bother about the vote.  Maybe the voter wants me to be unhappy (LOL)

The timeless secret to a happy life is to love yourself and your duty. I feel myself a happy man despite many constraints in life because I have trained my mind to focus only on positive things, positive feelings and in doing so I never feel to be a less happy person.

Yes, yes I am.  Even on days when I struggle with conditions not of my choosing, I choose to be happy and thankful for the opportunity to live life and grow through experience.  Happiness is a choice any of us can make in the here and now.  Sadly, most people look at happiness as something distant, like "If I only had this or could do that I would be happy" .. they postpone joy and as a result rarely taste it.  I tend to focus on how to be at peace within myself, so that way even when something distracts me or I feel upset or unhappy - I can quickly pull myself back to center and move beyond it.

Great question. Love all three answers. It is a question I have never been able to answer without thinking first. I believe the reason is that the future keeps popping in my head- I have two adult unemployed children besides another 12 year old. But in all fairness, I am HAPPY because I have been blessed with a wonderful husband and children and a job I love. Thank you for asking. How about you?

I am happy. As Good Guy said I choose to be happy. Positive and happy moods are not only better for your health but help, I believe in attracting good things to you. Life is choice, You can choose to be happy or sad. Which makes you feel better?

You're absolutely right about attracting good things to you. A psychiatrist once explained how that works. And guess what? YOU ATTRACT IT. GOOD for you Nicholas.

How did they explain the way it works? A psychiatrists view sounds interesting.

He told me that people approach other people who are happy because they emit positive energy-it has a little to do with the magnetic field around us-so when we attract people we also attract situations that are in our favour. Read g-girl11's articles
