I am not afraid of getting old. What do I mean by this?
1. I am old already and I am getting old each day. There is nothing I can do about that. It is a fact. I know I am getting old because I go to bed each night and wake up another day. The conclusion is that I am one day older each day. Therefore to be afraid of that fact is to be afraid of the natural
Growing means being more mature. There are things I know today that I did not know thirty years ago. There are decisions I would make now that I would not make years ago. There are fears that I have overcome which would not happen if I had not grown old.
Growing old means I have a voice -a more powerful voice. It means that there are different opportunities opened to me and available to me that were not so many years ago. I want to lead and become a star in something. This will happen only if I grow old.
Therefore growing old is not my problem
My problem is the so-called generation gap which exist between the age group. This misunderstanding results form poor communication and ignorance. All people need to realize that we are as old as we are today. We need to build a system of respect between the ages so that the old realize the need for the you and the young realize the need for the old. We need a good balanced between education and experience that will get us more productive.
Here is an example. We are now in the age of technology. Without doubt, technology is now ruling the world and us older folks must allow the young to get as much exposure to technology as possible. However, the young needs to realize that when they are hungry, computer cannot be eaten We still ned the rice, corn, flour, sardines and other fruits. Many of the diseases around are as a results of false education and ignorance. If we were to return to some of the practices of the former people, we would be spared many of the diseases that we now have.
We need to realize that ole is not the problem. everybody gets old. It is our understanding and acceptance of oldness that will create a problem for all of us. Do not be afraid of being old. welcome the idea and enjoy it. The older you are, the more acceptable you will be my friend. welcome oldness as you welcome your partner. Let it become your second lover. Accept it and enjoy it as you grow older.
The only thing I beg of you is that you do not become more stupid, brutish and obnoxious.
