   Why does the stomach rumble when hungry?
   
   The stomach rumbles when hungry, as  a way of telling you that it's time to eat.  Does anyone know how or why this rumbling occurs?

   Stomach rumbles because of muscle contraction and fuctuation. As food enters the gastrointestinal tract, in closes the wall to prevent the entrance of food and gases thus and the fuctuation is called basic electrical rythm that attracts the nerve receptors resulting to irritation of the gi tract causing the muscle to cotract and vibrate(rumble).

   The rumbling of Stomach and the Intestines is called 'Borborygmus' or 'Borborygmi'. This is caused by the contraction of the stomach and intestinal muscles that help both to digest the food inside the stomach and then propel it downwards into and along the journey through the intestines.
   
   This movement of gas and fluids caused those gurgling and rumbling noises called Borborygmi. As the brain signals the muscles to start contracting 2 hours after stomach is empty ( apart from some fluid and residue)  - this causes the rumbling of hunger and as the chambers are emptier than normal the sounds are much louder when hungry.

   Well dang.  This has already clearly been answered in a reasonable and factual manner, so all I can contribute is something entirely non-factual or reasonable.
   Your stomach is inhabited by a tiny Roman Senate.  Most of the deliberations are about food.  When your stomach rumbles it's because they're all in the midst of raucous yelling about wanting food.  Giving the Senate food quells the chaos.

   That sound is not a rumble....it's an angry GROWL......that demands, "FEED ME!"
   Who is going to TRY to come up with a better, more accurate, exact answer than DOCMO???    C'mon!   Really?
