Women's restroom stalls ..where's the hook to hang your purse?

Are public places just to cheap to include these anymore?  I have not found one in a store in ages....it sure isn't easy to hold your purse and you know what and you know what!

You are correct, Rutley.....these "hooks" are not being installed to the inside of public lav doors....and some older places are now removing them.   Here's why:
The number of purse-snatchings under these circumstances, has risen to an astounding level....everywhere, most especially in big cities.
While a woman is seated, a hand can easily reach in and grab your purse so quickly, you don't know what hit you....BOOM!   Your purse is GONE.....Then, you get the picture...the woman, screams, (maybe finishes what she was doing, wipes and pulls the old pants up)......fumbles with the lock and the door, because she's is in total panic mode....and OH yes, by then......a quick-footed little weasel is so long gone.....it's not funny!!!
My question would be.....fine....then why not put the hook up on the wall behind the commode, right???   Seems simple enough to me!

It depends upon where you are. Sometimes they have a little ledge to sit your purse, or they could have the hook on the door.

It definitely is a design consideration. I think the hook should be about 4 ft off the ground so that you can reach it. Most older bathrooms have the hook about the height of the door. You can't reach for a phone a or a sanitary pad when in squatting position. I think it is a design over sight. If more women complain about it maybe something can be done.

Another problem with leaving your purse on the floor is that it is often wet and always unsanitary!

I seriously HATE bathroom stalls without a hook to hang not just purses but jackets, and etc. I'd rather risk my purse getting stolen than leave it on the unsanitary bathroom floor. (You'd think it would be even easier to steal a purse from the floor). I've also seen many one-toilet bathrooms (the one-person public bathrooms) without the hook so removing them to avoid theft in that case is irrelevant. I think men just designed those restrooms without any thought or consideration.

    Hi rutley,
Too often there are no hooks or ledges! I will hang my purse on the edge of the door by wedging the staps of my purse in the crack of the door opening. There are over the door purse hooks available for sale which a woman can carry too. Avoid setting a purse on the floor. Bacteria picked up there is then transferred to kitchen counters and table tops w/o thinking- yuck!!

Rutley, I've been in all the situations mentioned below.  It infuriates me when there is no hook on the stalls...and often I see holes where the hooks once were.

I've also been told that people actually steal the hooks!  Who knows?

I am a freak about cleanliness, I usually straddle and keep my purse over my shoulders when there are no hooks.  It's also aggravating If I have shopping bags with me.

That being said, I try to avoid using rest rooms whenever possible.  Most are very dirty, smelly and I cannot believe the messes that women leave.  Some don't even flush the toilets.  I don't get it.

I agree the hooks should be in the middle of the doors so that no one can reach them or behind the toilets.  I just know I cannot live without my purse!

    Blessings, Sparklea smile
